Haunting at Haruka High

Omescape - Sunnyvale

Escape room
IRL

Was fairly solid environment wise. Decent atmospheric tension. Live actor included, but one of our group was immune to their wiles. Cool mirror visual effects in one spot. Not quite enough for 7 people to do (stated max is 6), but my group had a good time. Could be scary if you are with jumpy people.

Limitless Escape Games - Pleasanton

Escape room

Very average escape room with OK/average tech. An attempt at immersion was made which made it not feel cheap atmosphere-wise, but the experience overall was a bit lacking. I’m also not convinced they know what “yakitori” means.

Medieval Madness

PanIQ Room - San Francisco

Escape room

Largely obtuse puzzles, way too many puzzles of a similar genre, not much parallelization possible, certain puzzles made no sense and the gamemaster could not explain them clearly or at all after the game, some electronics worked early or randomly (snuffing a sense of accomplishment). We needed about 4 hints. Some puzzles could just be brute forced which is not that fun, and the order of codes and what sequence to punch them in was often not clear. A lot of things were not that fun.

The Estate

Very solid atmosphere, some jump scares, some finicky electronics, needed a lot of hints. But it was still fun!

The Bunker

Puzzle Room Tahoe

Escape room

Pretty straight forward. Working tech. Not an abundance of puzzles to do in parallel despite a 10 person maximum. We solved in under time with 8 people, and would’ve been 10 minutes faster but we missed a huge clue entirely. It’s very dark, and the variety of puzzles was low (almost all 3-4 digit codes).

Chapter 3: The Morgue

It’s a bit scarier with the bonus challenges in particular being unnerving in various ways. This chapter has a bit more concurrent puzzles and possible parallelization, and had a good mix of puzzles and tech. My group had a good time!

Chaos In The Galleria

Was a decently large room in a mall "galleria". Atmosphere/gimmick was forgettable, but good number of independent puzzles that didn't bottleneck too badly for our large group. Most people really enjoyed themselves and diverse opinions on how to solve things saved the day.

Pretty average room, was easier than we thought, really straightforward clue progression, no hints were needed but one was given.

Slightly scary, mostly in the beginning. Failed to escape. Only two of us. Used every hint possible. What to do next was largely obtuse, dependent on 100% clue gathering in a very dark room which wasn't fun for me.
