Red Giant - CLOSEDQuest Room - HollywoodEscape roomIRLRed Giant has a spectacular set and excellent atmosphere. But it felt a bit wasted with the puzzles as they are. It’s definitely not a puzzle dense room, and the ones that do exist are not clued particularly well, nor do they give obvious feedback upon solving. As a result, some of the puzzles felt random and nonsensical. There are also several items built into the room that appear to be old puzzles that were just never taken out (always frustrating because they stick in your mind as things that need to be solved and then nothing comes of them). Overall, puzzlers will be bored, but scenery lovers will be thrilled. Oh, and you get to wear costumes, how fun is that?
Odditorium Emporium - CLOSEDEscapeX Rooms - Costa MesaEscape roomIRLThis was a performance more than an escape room. The in room host is loud, overbearing, and rude, which is supposed to be funny but just left our group extremely irritated. The opening safety talk also took me by surprise with its venom and rudeness. Of course, some people will enjoy this environment, but I would not recommend to people who enjoy working through puzzles on their own and feeling a sense of accomplishment.
Hope EndThe Ministry Of PeculiaritiesEscape roomIRLThese guys put in the work. Impeccable attention to detail, detailed sets, unique puzzles and moments, and great acting. Ambiance x100. It was all I hoped it would be.
Experiment C73Conundrum Escape Rooms - ArvadaEscape roomIRLThis room was a delight. There were so many puzzles that required collaboration and communication between all of the players. Clever use of space, unique puzzles, and so many satisfying ‘ah ha’s’
The Nest [Immersive Theatre]Hatch EscapesEscape roomOther A stunning audio experience. I had a bit of trouble following the story, but the audio and ambiance were so masterful I didn’t really care. There were some delightful surprises in this room
Zoe - CLOSEDEscapade GamesEscape roomIRLThis is a haunted house with a couple of puzzles in it, and most of the puzzles are “It’s very dark and hard to find what I need and all I have is a candle.” Not for me.
Jumanji: Welcome To The Jungle60Out - MelroseEscape roomIRLPlease don’t give me hints if I don’t ask for them! It seemed like the game master was talking to us on the intercom at least once every 5 minutes without us asking for hints. Poor immersion and so much broken tech. I love some of the ideas but the execution fell short.
The Laboratory - CLOSEDThe Laboratory Escape RoomEscape roomIRLPuzzles galore!! You won’t run out of things to do and each puzzle is unique and interesting. Not much story or ambiance but I felt like I was on a playground the whole time. Delightful.
Grandma's Masterplan60Out - MelroseEscape roomIRLI wish I could have liked this game, but the laminated hints on every surface really took the wind out of my sails. Even the cleverest puzzles were ruined by these unasked for hints. The gamemasters don’t seem to have much faith in their players. A lot of people love this room, so it’s clearly just a matter of personal taste. There are some fun set pieces.
Curse On The Emerald SeasPuzzle Effect - DenverEscape roomIRLA cute little room with some unique puzzles.
Sky OdysseyMaze Rooms - VermontEscape roomIRLWhat a disappointment. The worst sound experience I have ever had in an escape room. At any given moment there were 3-5 statues speaking or otherwise making noise. Additionally, the room is in serious need of some upkeep, even just minor thinks like tightening screws and replacing ripped and old stickers would make it at least look like the operator cares.
Stash HouseStash HouseEscape roomIRLI wish I had enjoyed this room more because I know it’s a favorite of many people. Though there were many unique puzzles the flow of the room just felt very poor to me, and the decor was very cheap and low effort. It could do with a bit of a revamp.
The PyramidEscape Room LAEscape roomIRLIt’s a big, divided space and as a result a big group of people are going to miss a lot of things happening in other rooms. We also accidentally cheated our way around an entire set of puzzles. Maybe we just got insanely lucky but I would guess it has happened before. There are some cool large set pieces and the ambiance is fun.
Heretics [prev. Bloody Elbow] - CLOSEDQuest Room - KoreatownEscape roomIRLGreat atmospheric experience and some cool puzzles. A pretty low density of puzzles, though. Veterans will most likely speed through it.
World of Illusions - CLOSEDMaze Rooms - HollywoodEscape roomIRLBig, impressive set pieces and unique puzzles. There were a couple things in here that seemed a little nonsensical but overall it’s such a blast with excellent flow and lots of surprises
Ghost Ship60Out - MelroseEscape roomIRLThere are some fun unique puzzles here and an overall good ambiance
Nautilus60Out - KoreatownEscape roomIRLA lot of empty space- not a very high density of puzzles. The climax of the room in unique and exciting in theory but fell short due to some tech issues.
The Hex RoomCross Roads Escape GamesEscape roomIRLInteresting concept- a room that can be played 6 times with each experience being different. I played as the person in the middle room- the one linking everyone together, and I think that might be the least interesting one. A lot of my job was being a gofor for everyone else. Overall not my favorite room but I appreciate the unique idea and my companions all had a good time
