Timeliner: Train Through TimeThe Escape Game - AustinEscape roomIRLVery technological - perhaps a bit too technological. Over-reliance on the technological innovations means that the whole experience feels a bit repetitive. In the end, the technology made it feel like one of the easiest games we’ve ever done, leaving us wondering how much we’d really done/experienced. But the production value is extremely impressive.
Sherlock's LibraryAll In Adventures - Lawrenceville [prev. Mystery Room]Escape roomIRLOf the 27 escape games we've played so far, this was by far the worst. It was literally a cubicle, with an open ceiling so you could overhear what was going on in other rooms. When we (a 20-something married couple and three of their parents) entered the room, we were told, in a serious tone, that the most important rule was to "keep our clothes on." Puzzle-wise, nothing was novel, just a bunch of the same kinds of locks in play at once. It was the first escape game experience for one of our parents, and she was totally bored, so she's never been interested in doing another escape game after this one.
The CryptEscape Hour AustinEscape roomIRLThe “best in Austin” ranking on Morty is well-deserved. This is one of the most elaborate and well-constructed escape rooms we’ve ever seen (with the greatest number of rooms/chambers we’ve ever seen). The set is extremely immersive, the puzzles are innovative and well-themed, and everything feels very cohesive. With six people on our team, it feels like we could do it over again in the near future and all have completely new things to do the second time around.
PlaygroundThe Escape Game - AustinEscape roomIRLDid this one with a large group of newbies, and everyone absolutely loved it! As other reviews have noted, the non-linear nature of the game means that everyone can be working on something at the same time, so no one is ever bored, and if you get stuck on one puzzle, you can easily switch to working on another one. The set and story were also very immersive. This is a game that we would definitely do again, and either work on different puzzles (since there are so many different ones to choose from), or just nerf ourselves in general to have the chance to do it all over again with a new group.
Prison BreakThe Escape Game - AustinEscape roomIRLDid this game with our family at midnight on New Year’s Eve, and since then, we’ve all had a great time telling people we were locked up for New Year’s. The experience is very immersive, with lots of interesting puzzles and other fun elements.
Call of the AncientEscape Hour AustinEscape roomIRLAside from one puzzle that had a temporary glitch, we loved everything about this room, from the theming to the set to the story to the puzzles to the unique way the GM interacts with you.
Gold RushThe Escape Game - AustinEscape roomIRLVery high production value, and some really unique puzzles compared to all of the other rooms we've done. But for our group, it was arguably too easy, as we got out in half the allotted time, and wished we'd slowed down to appreciate how fun everything was along the way.
Special Ops: Mysterious MarketThe Escape Game - The BatteryEscape roomIRLA unique room with two completely different feelings at the beginning and the end. We also appreciated that it actually had a complete storyline that played out over the course of the experience, rather than just a vague theme, like many other escape rooms.
Lunar Station 7Urban Escape Games - AlpharettaEscape roomIRLDefinitely the best room at this location. A very nice set, with very nice puzzles. Not a spoiler, but a good practice for all escape rooms that is particularly important in this room: throughout the experience, look *very* carefully.
Dead Man's CoveEscape Hour AustinEscape roomIRLReally fun pirate room, with lots of pirate-themed puzzles. Unlike many rooms (at other locations) that feel like they have a themed set, but generic puzzles, the puzzles in this room are all very appropriate to the pirate theme.
The DepthsThe Escape Game - The BatteryEscape roomIRLA nice mix of technological puzzles and mechanical puzzles, and an engaging storyline. The ending is particularly unique and exciting!
The HeistThe Escape Game - AustinEscape roomIRLThis room was our first experience with high-production value escape rooms, and the one that got us hooked on them. While there are better rooms at this location, when evaluated in isolation, The Heist is still a very strong room.
Baker Street MysteryEscape Hour AustinEscape roomIRLA reasonably good escape room when evaluated in isolation, but it pales in comparison to everything else at Escape Hour, so it feels quite lackluster if you’ve done any of the other ones at this location. If you haven’t done the other games here already, we definitely recommend trying those first, to get a better idea of what Escape Hour really has to offer.
Lab Rats - CLOSEDEscape Hour AustinEscape roomIRLWhen we played, a fundamental aspect of gameplay was broken, but if it had been working properly, it would’ve made for one of the most interesting games we’ve played. Even with that issue, the newbies in our group (who made up the vast majority of the group), loved the experience, and we, their more experienced hosts, still had a good time.
Classified! The Escape Game - AustinEscape roomIRLIf you have the opportunity to do Special Ops: Mysterious Market, and only want to do one of these two thematically-related rooms, do Special Ops instead (it’s the newer, more technologically advanced version). But if you only have the opportunity to do Classified, or want to do both (they’re similar, but different enough that you can have fun doing both), Classified is a fun room as well.
Under Pressure - CLOSEDEscapology - AustinEscape roomIRLThis room was our first experience with Escapology rooms, and it still remains one of our favorite Escapology rooms. The theming was well-done, and there were a variety of different fun puzzles.
Star Trek Discovery: Damage Control [prev. Star Trek: Quantum Filament] - CLOSEDEscapology - AustinEscape roomIRLGreat production value, and a variety of fun puzzles, but when we did it, we couldn't hear any of the recorded announcements over the ship's intercom, which made us wonder if we were missing anything important (we still got out, so I guess not, but we definitely missed some story elements).
Jewel HeistUrban Escape Games - AlpharettaEscape roomIRLThis was the first escape room we ever did together as a family, and started the tradition of doing at least one whenever we’re together. Compared to all the others we’ve done, and some of the newer rooms at this location, the production value isn’t the highest, but it’s still a solid escape room.
Trapped In TIme - CLOSEDUrban Escape Games - AlpharettaEscape roomIRLSome nice puzzles, and some elements with high production value, but we wish that the rest of the room (e.g., the walls, floor, and ceiling) lived up to the best elements.
Mansion MurderEscapology - AustinEscape roomIRLA pretty standard escape room. Nothing special to report in either a positive or negative direction. There are definitely better rooms at this location, and in Austin, but if you’ve done all of the other ones, it’s not *not* worth doing - it just wouldn’t be my first choice.
