La Rébellion
The Cipher Room St Peters
Escape room
IRL
Another incredible room by Cipher. Simply on a different level in terms of attention to detail and immersion compared to most of the other escape rooms we've done. Some escape rooms are just a bunch of random puzzles tossed into a room or two. All of La Rebellion's puzzles make sense and flow seamlessly from start to finish while remaining true to the theme. Most of the puzzles are not overly difficult, but there are loads of puzzles to do, and they're highly varied and fun. A cracker of an ending too. Loved every minute of it!
Mr Pepper’s Toy Shop
The Cipher Room St Peters
Escape room
IRL
Another absolutely incredible experience at The Cipher Room. The theming and atmosphere were expertly crafted, with exquisite props and clever/unique puzzles. There's actually quite a lot of tech but it's all so well-hidden that it doesn't affect the immersion. No live actors but multiple jump scares to keep you on your toes. There were so many instances where we were left in awe of the design and revelations. And the ending was once again a jaw-dropper. All the rooms we've done at here have been mindblowingly fun for the whole family. If there's one escape room establishment to recommend in Sydney (or perhaps all of Australia) it would invariably be Cipher.

One of the, if not the best, escape rooms we've been to. The atmosphere and props were incredible, providing an incredibly rich and immersive experience. The puzzles were fantastic, super creative, varied, and unique. We can't wait to go back and try all the other rooms.
The Cabin
The Cipher Room Newtown
Escape room
IRL
I was a bit nervous about The Cabin as it's Cipher's second oldest room and we had already done their three newest ones (Marlowe, La Rebellion & Mr. Pepper's), and there was a concern that it wouldn't live up to the others by comparison. Boy, was I wrong! The Cabin turned out to be another sublime escape room experience, definitely right up there as one of my all-time favourites. The theming was incredible -- super creepy atmosphere (but no real jump scares), and the puzzles were some of the most creative and fun I've done to date. Everything flowed so well and in line with the theme, and the ending -- as with all of Cipher's rooms -- was truly impressive. It was definitely challenging but not impossible -- we accepted one clue to point us in the right direction, though we probably shouldn't have as we would've gotten it eventually and we escaped with 10 minute to spare. I really can't say enough about all of Cipher's escape rooms. It makes me sad that I can only do each room once.
The Game
Next Level Escape
Escape room
IRL
A very different experience to your typical escape room! We were split into two evenly matched teams of 4, which was perfect given half were experienced and half were first-timers. The competition aspect made it really intense and nerve-wracking, but also really exciting and fun! The puzzles are clever, varied and suited the game show theme, providing a good level of difficulty but nothing too hard or frustrating. As usual, the Next Level GMs are excellent and enhanced the experience. While not my favourite type of escape room, it was among the most enjoyable I’ve done thus far. Highly recommended for larger groups!
Unstoppable
Mission Escape George St
Escape room
IRL
Having only done period-piece or fantasy-world escape rooms to date, Unstoppable provided a very different experience with its realistic Aussie setting, and all-tech, no-padlock puzzles. Our family of four had quite a fun time and found it intense and challenging. We managed to escape the room as the clock ticked down to zero, though we did have a small hiccup midway through that required intervention and had to ask for one hint when time was running low. The best part of the room is the concept and theming. The props were realistic enough to keep us immersed, and there were some twists and turns to keep us on our toes and keep the adrenaline pumping. It's also got some genuinely creative ideas I never thought I'd see in an escape room. I actually felt the tension of the atmosphere and this was the first escape room where I was literally sweating by the end of it. Our issues with the room were smaller things that could potentially be fixed with more attention to detail. Stuff like the background music being too loud to hear clues, or poor lighting that made one particular puzzle very frustrating, or general tech-related issues that unfortunately come with the territory of a tech-heavy room. The puzzles were varied, though quite a lot of them were more "task based" than the authentic brain teasers I personally prefer. Ultimately, we had a very good time, and that's all that matters. I would definitely recommend Unstoppable for escape room enthusiasts, especially those who have done a lot of traditional rooms and would like to try something a little different!

We had a group of 7 (2 adults and 5 kids) and had a very good time. The variety of the puzzles was great and some were quite clever. We needed around 4 or 5 clues to complete it on time, especially one of the bonus puzzles at the very end. Our gamemaster was also very good and friendly. On the downside, perhaps due to the different themes of the room, the decor did not feel particularly atmospheric. The non-linear nature of many the puzzles also meant you could be wasting time on puzzles that you cannot yet solve. On the whole, it was still a fun time, and probably best enjoyed by larger groups than teams looking for a more immersive experience.
Blackwood Manor
Eclipse Escape
Escape room

We absolutely loved this room. The quality of the set and props was top-notch and movie-esque. The idea of using torches in the darkness really added to the atmosphere, and the puzzles were interesting and fun. The story was also quite good. We opted out of the live actor but it was still a spooky experience. One of the best escape rooms we've been to so far.
Kingdom Besieged
Expedition Sydney
Escape room
IRL
We went as a group of 5 (1 adult, 4 kids) and had a solid time, though not on par with some of our best escape room experiences. Some might like the role playing aspect (especially kids), but I personally prefer a more traditional escape room. While the atmosphere was good for the most part, it was not as immersive because the quality of the props could be better. While most of the puzzles were good, there were a few too many padlocks for my liking, and there was one puzzle in particular that did not make much sense even when explained to us at the end. On the positive side, we were given an extra 20 minutes after failing to escape in the initial hour.

This was our first escape room experience and we had a really great time! The room itself was huge and the props were of excellent quality. The puzzles were unique and fun, and atmosphere was highly immersive. The only downside to going to such a great escape room right off the bat is that it sets the bar too high. We look forward to returning to the Gold Coast to do their other rooms.
