With the time machine you built in the Time Traveler’s Lab, you traveled back in time to year 1988 to meet your father. Although you weren’t able to meet him, you found his travel notes that indicate that he could be in Peru, Italy, or USA in different time periods. You choose to travel to Italy and turn on your dad’s time machine that creates a portal connecting to 16th century Venice in Italy as saved in the machine. Walking out of the time portal, you find yourself standing inside a dimly lit dining room of what looks like a house in medieval Europe. Judging by how awfully quiet it is in here, you assume you are alone in the house. The only thing that breaks this deadly silence is the cackling of a single candle burning above the large dining table. You can’t quite put a finger on it, but something about this house feels unnatural. You wonder just what the heck your old man was doing in a creepy place like this. CREAK.. You spin around to see what just made that sound from behind you. There is nothing but the wall and an old painting of a pale woman looking straight at you with an eerie smile on her face. You feel the hair rising on the back of your neck. The time portal will close automatically in 1 hour. You decide to hurry up and find what clues you can of your dad and get out of this god forsaken place.

The strongest of the three rooms at Seoul Escape Hongdae, ‘Venetian Merchant’ packs a few surprises and twists within its walls. As a part of their continuing ‘Season 2’ trans-room narrative of a time traveller chasing their father across the world, the ‘Venetian Merchant’ offers some interesting props and set pieces that make for a memorable experience. Playing this game after ‘Amazon’ made the room feel shorter by comparison, but that was also because the run of puzzles flowed relatively well with minimal disruptions or confusion. The narrative entices players to find out what happens next in the next escape game, and the idea that a narrative plays out over about 8 escape games is particularly intriguing. Unfortunately, the remaining ‘Season 2’ games no longer exist after COVID impacted majority of the English-friendly escape rooms in Seoul. While the set design isn’t as ambitious as ‘Amazon’, we didn’t feel the need—or fatigue—to request hints as much in ‘Venetian Merchant’, which ultimately makes this the better game. With that being said, it is recommended to play both as the ‘Amazon’ set is truly unique.
Puzzles flowed well for the most part. Some were ambiguously clued.
Seoul Escape created some immersive sets at their Hongdae branch and ensured that they packed a few surprises as well.
Staff was kind and accommodating. I flagged that I didn’t want the entrance door locked and the GM agreed immediately and ensured that they showed me that the door was merely closed, but not locked.

Slightly spooky, but only in theme. Not particularly scary at all.

Cool room, nice theme, nice decoration. A little outdated and oldschool and some things not working soooo perfectly; you can tell that South Korea or atleast Seoul doesn‘t have that much of a Escape Room community, there‘s not too much competition and hence improvement going on here. But a good and solid room nonetheless. I think it‘s the better one of their rooms.

This was our first international escape room, and it was decent and fun! I would recommend it. There was one element that was quite unique that we hadn’t seen yet in all our prior 133 games. I will not spoil it because you have to see it for yourself.

Unfortunately one of the locks broke while we were trying to get it open. It was already looking a bit beat, however.

One part is not accessible if someone has mobility issues, like for example, stepping up and over into a large box.

Fun room with a mixture of different puzzle types. Some neat moments and a few stale moments. Particularly loved the transition mid game but some of the “clues” were a little old-school.
Definitely had some novel moments, but also some less than novel moments.
Pretty well done but nothing over the top
I love that this franchise does “seasons” and “episodes”. Wish I had time to try the other episodes!
Hard
For us very hard but this is the first ER we’ve done overseas and I wonder if that had something to do with it.
Mixture of both!

One moment in particular that involved climbing slightly and using some arm strength.
I think so. Light climbing and I didn’t see a way around it (although I could be mistake ).
Yes
As easy as any business in Seoul.
