Mastermind: A Heist Story

FINDING DIAMONDS LIKE IT’S MINECRAFT A classic Bank Heist style offering from Fox in a Box that felt well thought out and put together. Nothing much to write home about in terms of puzzles but nothing negative either. A classic Bank Heist room done well, probably best for more inexperienced players.

OH BOY THERE I GO HEISTING AGAIN Mastermind Heist was an interesting little bank heist room at Fox in a Box that was met with pretty lukewarm reception from my team and I. Putting aside the oversaturated nature of the theme, the room was modest in its selection of puzzles and fun spy gadgets to play around with which is always a plus. Fingerprint scanners, passwords, lasers, safes and a couple of tricky solves; all the usual bits and pieces one would come to expect. I just think the glaring problem here was that Mastermind Heist didn’t really try to do anything different or out of the box… The story was generic, the objective straight forward, and other than the fun little character intro from our GM, the game took itself weirdly serious which was strange when compared to some of the venue’s other offerings which were brimming with character. Bizarre. Considering some of the other rooms in GC this one isn’t necessarily bad by any stretch, it’s just sadly not very memorable. Shame. 6.5/10 🔏🧩

Cool room with heaps of different effects and interactive puzzles to make it feel as similar to a bank heist as possible!

Good immersive puzzles, we liked prison and saloon a little bit better because of the setting but there were a few really good and clever puzzles in this one and it felt like the movie hacking into the computer etc. Still highly recommend!

The first half of this room was good, however, the second half disappointed due to the poor implementation of certain puzzles. Some challenges had no functionality and were practically pointless.

The integration of tech and storytelling as a means of underpinning a robbery escape experience was impressive. Some event were process-driven and not overly puzzle-forward at all in order to better serve immersion, which only bolstered the overall experience. All in all, an enjoyable experience and a fun take on a common escape room theme!

Great room! Super cool concept, great puzzles, very well decorated! We did a really dumb thing but the GM let us pass anyway and it made for a great laugh at the end.
