Alchemy. Astronomy. White Magic. The Order of the Three Keys is the most powerful organization youโ€™ve never heard of- until now. Join their ranks, and investigate the heretical experiments of Edmond Cavanaugh- a man whose actions reverberate though time itself. Your choices will determine what you encounter as you dig deeper into his manor. Powerful elixirs, long-forgotten demons, experiments with the nature of life itself: you may encounter all of these, or something else entirely. But be warned- the Orderโ€™s Proctors will oversee your progress. Convince them of your intentions, and they will come to your aid. But stray from the Orderโ€™s tenets, and your story may take a different path. The choices, as always, are yours.

30 escape rooms

We have mixed opinions about this room. It was set up very well, the actors were very into it, but the technical difficulties took us out of it and the repetitive hints for things we already completed felt time consuming. There were a few times the actor had to come in to push things along because the technology wasnโ€™t working to open things. It was still a fun time though! Weโ€™re going to go back for the second part, but hopefully things are fixed between now and then.

Gameplay

The room was very well put together but there were too many technical difficulties for it to be a smooth game flow. The speaker is also very low and can barely be heard.

Atmosphere

Design and actors were very good. They made it enjoyable.

Customer service

The bartender when we first arrived was amazing. The actor in the room stayed in character very well.

Story

We werenโ€™t too sure about the storyline, honestly. We had the gist but werenโ€™t really sure the end goal of the room. And maybe it was just us being distracted, but I feel like the videos werenโ€™t very relevant.

Difficulty

Medium

Most of the puzzles were easy to figure out. We had the most confusion when we would do things right but nothing got triggered.

Was anything broken?

Yes

We didnโ€™t say anything, but it also felt like they werenโ€™t watching us. There were 2 times we had the puzzle completed correctly and after some time of us doing the same thing over and over, the actor had to come in to open it.

Heresy as a stand-alone experience isnโ€™t an amazing game, and some artifacts in the room need to be ignored. But Doors of Divergence games really shine on replay, expanding what you thought you knew into something completely different. Play through each game twice, and watch the story unfold. ๐Ÿ˜ˆ

Clearly a lot of time, effort and love went into creating Doors of Divergence. It is one of the most unique experiences we have participated in. We drove to North Carolina to play at another location and left North Carolina taking about Doors of Divergence. We will definitely be back! If you're looking for something a little difference than your standard escape room, Doors of Divergence is what you're looking for.

Gameplay

It took some time for us to get used to the style of play here, but once we did, everything fell into place. The puzzles were fun, difficult without being discouraging, and had good flow.

Atmosphere

The sets were well done, with thematic lighting and sound. There were some phenomenal surprise moments that we really appreciated.

Customer service

Alexandra, despite being alone, did a wonderful job, from welcoming us, to running the game and acting within the scenarios. She was everything you could hope for in a GM.

Particularly interesting or different

If there's one thing Doors of Divergence is good at, it's being unique. Lots of choices, multiple possibilities and encouraging players to experiment with various ways to participate in the storyline.

Story

There was a good mix of puzzle types and difficulties. As experienced players we found that, overall, the puzzles were right in the sweet-spot overall.

This room puts you in a Lovecraftian storyline with alchemists playing with life and death. Your life outside your waiting room in limbo melts away within minutes after solving the first puzzle: how to get inside. My family of 4 works really well as a team but this room would be very difficult for a couple to attack alone. Non-linear thinking is a must, as is good pattern recognition. We averted disaster at a very steep price. Hopefully you choose well.

Gameplay

Every element was part of a cohesive story. We had a few technical difficulties and a few of us are a bit hard of hearing and had difficulty understanding the oral clues.

Atmosphere

Excellent. It was very immersive.

Customer service

The experience starts the moment you walk in. Our GM/Proctor was helpful but not invasive. We were in a large non-riveted group, so we all had different play styles and she did a great job of stealing us in the right direction. This is not the โ€œvoice of Godโ€ direction, she was in the room with us.

Particularly interesting or different

Yes

This was not the typical picking locks escape room. The puzzles were creative and extremely difficult but hard enough we had to work together.

Story

Everything flowed well. There were several story time breaks where we progressed the plot. There was plenty of travel back and forth between multiple rooms and everything was related.

Difficulty

Medium

Nothing REQUIRED outside knowledge but it was helpful at times. We solved all the puzzles but it was down to the wire. As a group of three teams who didnโ€™t know each other going in, we bonded by the end through solving puzzles together.

Game tech

Mechanical

There were issues with the sensors not working correctly or releasing when triggered.

Ideal number of players

5

This is not a private game play experience. Some parts of the room were very difficult to fit the full group of 10 in.

Scary

Not scary

Minimum age

Itโ€™s a bit intense and there are some themes that younger kids may be disturbed by. Our teens were fine.

Was anything broken?

Yes

One puzzle was broken and one was not reset. It wasnโ€™t to disruptive but we did need to ask for help with the broken puzzle because it wasnโ€™t caught on observation. The piece that was not reset seemed to have a malfunctioning magnet that eventually did work.

Live actors

Yes

There is a host in limbo, the waiting room. He was very entertaining. Our dedicated GM was an actress who was in our near our room the entire game and was great about staying in character regardless of the starkness of our teens. They have a very creative way of addressing snark.

Physically active

Somewhat

This space is not especially wheelchair friendly and there are a few minor tight doorways but otherwise the puzzles are limited from knee to head height on an average adult. No heavy lifting, bending, crawling, jumping, or reaching needed.

Accessibility

Some of the clues are oral and the space is noisy while the clues are quietly given. Some parts of the room have low lighting. There is a trip hazard in one part of the room which several members of our party tripped over.

Easy to find location

Yes

The directions given on the website and email confirmation were easy to follow but you would not just stumble across the location.

Parking

Easy

Ample parking on a Saturday night.

Safety

Yes

No danger here.

Wow, what a great storyline and unique experience. I was hoping for more agency in the story, but it didnโ€™t seem to present itself. It was still a lot of fun and I highly recommend it for someone that really likes immersive theater.

I very much like the meta world for the chapters as they unfold with a journey across time and how you meet the live actors before and after the games. If we return, I'd also be curious to see how much replayability the divergent paths add. Only notes would be that sometimes the lighting limited reading and that some of the story found through notes and details in the room felt less important to the game and progression than just puzzle solving/"button mashing"

We had to debrief in the car after this one. We wanted to love love this so much. Sets were amazing. Actors were phenomenal. We felt a bit down about struggling so much with things that seemed like it was mechanical issue or just fell short in execution. We had a break down in communication amongst us because we were getting frustrated. I think if we had had a few things go differently we would have loved it.

COOL concept, but there's a disconnect in the execution. Several things were not working correctly, and the puzzles varied from simple to awesome to "...Oops?" We were told after solving a unique puzzle that "oh, sorry that's not supposed to be on now" (Seems it was broken or was meant for the path we didn't take!) Two doors opened when they weren't supposed to, which created some confusion in an already difficult-to-follow storyline. I love the collectibles, but the triggers to receive them do indeed feel too random which left me with a bit of FOMO... "If I only I had said [Random Thing X] I could've gotten another one!" ... Is there a GameFAQ for this?! All this said, the acting and the best puzzle will stick with me. This is the one of the two I would replay because you actually see separate rooms. (1917 takes place in the same rooms so the replay appeal is lower.. despite having more possible endings!) The actress was excellent!

Gameplay

Some flow issues.
