On an exclusive tour of the abandoned mines at the Cavern Coal Mining Company, you prepare yourself to descend 300 feet in the mine’s rickety elevator. Your tour goes unexpectedly off track and you are faced with one obstacle after another. If you take care of some unfinished mine business, you may get some unexpected help in getting back to the surface.

This was such a fun room from start to finish. The elements were interesting and they have a unique mechanic where there is a chime and info when you unlock or find something. I realize that isn’t always needed, but I love not having to search around to figure out what we just triggered.

Incredibly immersive! Cohesive storyline! Great variance of puzzles!
You will literally forget you're not hundreds of feet underground.
Yes
The theme isn't particularly novel, but the immersive set and storyline made this game an unforgettable experience.
One of the most cohesive storylines I've experienced.
Medium
I was dealing with a pretty bad headache at the time, so we definitely used more hints than we typically would have. And the GM was great about getting a good feel for what level of hints/nudges we'd like.
High tech
For as high tech as this room is, everything worked flawlessly. There is one puzzle that's kind of sensitive and takes a second of the sensors to register. However, it was clearly noted so you knew to pause before trying a different solution.
2
Some areas were pretty cramped, so 2-3 enthusiasts would be perfect.
Spooky
There were some startling elements, but nothing gory.

Rating: 4/5 - Highly immersive set with lots of tech and effects Pros: ➕The set looked fantastic and was highly immersive, it really felt like were were in an underground mine. Everything was decorated floor to ceiling and made to look appropriately grimey. ➕Multiple areas to explore, the set felt a bit claustrophobic (but in a good way which felt realistic) ➕Lots of custom made tech interactions, minimal padlocks ➕Lighting was dark but good quality flashlights were provided ➕Use of audio, scents, lighting, and special effects ➕Narrative is integrated into the puzzles and set ➕Puzzles were decent with a nice variety ➕GM was friendly and helpful when needed Room for improvement: ➖One particular puzzle was unintuitive for us based on the digits, they should've used a different combo lock, it caused us to get stuck for a while. ➖While the ending effects were cool, I feel like the grandness of the ending sequence was a bit disappointing and too cramped. I was hoping there would be more, like a bigger reveal, but the set got less interesting as we progressed. I'd recommend a team of 2-3 enthusiasts due to the cramped spaces. We played as a team 2 and finished with plenty of time left. There is no crawling or climbing required. Update: My ranking of the 4 rooms I played here starting with my favorite: 1. Welcome to the Machine ❤️ Play this if you like a puzzle dense game requiring cooperation, no padlocks, and an exciting finale. 2. Deep Underground ❤️ Play this for the highly immersive set, effects, and tech. 3. Sins if Faustus❤️ Play this for the narrative and theatrics 4. Barnyard Winds 👍This room has lower immersion but is better for beginners and families

Our family has done all 4 current rooms at Captivating Worlds. My wife and I did Deep Underground just the two of us. We thought that was great - it would be ok with 4 people but would feel crowded with more. We successfully escaped with only minor hints (one was a lock where we'd tried the right code and the lock was just sticking a little, so they told us to try again, and one was a hidden item we'd missed that would definitely have been found if we had more people looking around). The theming and experience were fantastic.
Staff are great and friendly. They do a great job of only giving hints when you ask and only just enough to nudge you as much as needed - they're clearly paying attention and have experience at running games.

We succeeded with 2 experienced players. 4 would be ok. 6-8 would feel crowded.

Again, Captivating Worlds is so cool. I really like that in Deep Underground there are multiple rooms and you are going back and forth between rooms multiple times to complete puzzles. There are also a wide variety of types of puzzles. The experience is incredibly well themed and had a good story. We had six people in our group and I’d say at multiple times throughout the experience we felt quite cramped, so I think 3-4 max would be best.

I had so much fun at Captivating Worlds The Sins of Doctor Faustus that I got my wife to come back with me the next day! Deep Underground is yet another amazing escape room, a far more claustrophobic and stress filled experience, but that did so much to add to the experience and joy of getting out in time!

We completed the Deep Underground room and it was fantastic! Very immersive and well thought out. One of the best we’ve been to hands down. I can’t wait to go back and try the other rooms!
