Vanishing at The Velmont

This is fun and well-appointed room. Good set dressing, the clues make sense and flow. Though some things seem to have been "fixed" over the years that just don't work as well (ie. objects replaced that no longer fit the same or get stopped from going to far as the other 4). They didn't really cause more than a minute delay/confusion but easily figured out. A couple things didn't want to open as easily as they should. But some of that can be related to years of abuse. Over all the puzzles were fun and made sense. The ending sadly isn't as grand, and you can guess you are done but they need to come in and confirm it. The object you are looking for appears but its securely in place. Some things when unlocked will fall which can definitely cause a reaction. Lots of getting down to interact with things lower in the room. In short this is one of the two best rooms at RI Riddle Room.

This room sounds spookier than it really is. But the storyline was supported by the puzzles and the theming. The "hotel" was dark enough to give it a foreboding ambiance, but light enough to not set you on edge. Puzzles and lock placement made sense, nothing was ever too far from each other. We didn't come across anything that made us go, "What the heck does this go to?" So the puzzle flow was right on point. From start to finish, it was a smooth room and great for couples.

The gameplay was very fun and interesting. There were plenty of puzzles to keep us occupied. The props are all made on site. So they’re not particularly high tech. There are no screens in the room showing the amount of time left. The players are responsible for running a timer on their phone to know how much time is left which is a major downside. Overall, though, the room was enjoyable and entertaining.

This was our second game at RI Riddle Room, and it was exceptional! The puzzles were very fun and thought provoking, we had an awesome time! We can't wait to do the other two rooms!

We played all four rooms at RI Riddle Room today, really grateful to the owner and staff for accommodating us. Really enjoyed Vanishing at the Velmont, the perfect introductory room for us today. Puzzle flow was great, some unique items here and there that we had not seen before. Enjoyed the story, easy to follow through the experience. Hats off to our gamemaster, Charlie was fantastic.

Just a heads up, the details in this review are from what I remember when I played. I am just trying to set a record for myself of all of my Morty rooms. My understanding is that they have updated the room since I have played it, so a lot of what I say may no longer apply. I really liked the story of the room. Who doesn't love a good mystery? At the start of the game, there are several references to the plot discussed, but as the game continued, those became fewer and fewer and by the very end it seemed to have dropped. Afterwards, talking to the GMs, I found out the full story and I have to say it was clever and different from what I have experienced in other rooms. The setting was a real highlight of the room. The main lobby of the hotel gives off the feel of old time elegance with a few little surprises along the way. I absolutely loved the elevator effect and it was done very well. The final room needs a little work. The final set piece didn't work when I played and it left us feeling a little incomplete. The puzzles were a nice mix and some were diabolical (in a fun way)! The highlight for me was the set of puzzles in the wardrobe. If someone does play the room down the line, reach out and drop me a line and let me know about the changes.

NOTE: We were one of the first two teams to escape this room after release, but due to many issues with the room, we were compensated with a free room coupon. My group made sure to go to this room the weekend it opened, and when we escaped, we were told we were only the second group to escape so far, what an honor! The room itself is so authentic, it's like you walk right into the lobby of the Velmont hotel itself, expecting to see a bellboy and get greeted to check in. The elevator prop is amazing, the mechanic work that had to go into this room is just....unheard of, and something we've never seen before. The last set of major puzzles is such a crazy experiment- the team that designed this room really designed a masterwork. This is a room that I'd really only recommend for older puzzlers due to the complexity of the puzzles and some of the themes, but it's a full immersive experience that has to be done. Final rating: 8/10

Fun game play, scenery was real fun. Fun props that I haven’t seen before.
