The Attic

Fun room with some good puzzles and capped off with a pretty ingenious final puzzle. Nothing too spectacular, in terms of set or setting. It’s an attic. It’s not a spooky one. It’s a little old too, and one puzzle literally broke on us, so the GM had to come in, check on it, and override the mechanism. Nothing to sneeze at, but cleaner than our attic at home!

While this is the oldest (and easiest) of Just Escapes rooms, it still have good life left and plenty of adventure left. For those new to escape rooms, or with younger players, The Attic provided a good variety of puzzling in a playful and bright atmosphere. This is the only room left over from the previous owners, though the current owner has made additions to it that help deepen the story, and gameplay.

Rating: 2.5/5 - A basic room that needs some polish Pros: ➕Decent variety of puzzles involving visual, mental, or physical interactions. ➕More than 1 room to explore ➕Mix of padlocks and simple tech triggers and mag locks Room for improvement: ➖One electromechanical puzzle physically broke and was unsolvable, I had to leave the room to get the GM to help us. ➖Set is pretty basic and uninteresting, the 2nd half still feels like an empty office space with some themed furniture and light decoration. ➖One set of items were not "one and done" so that cause is to get stuck, not realizing there would be re-use. They didn't specifically tell us if things were going to be re-used or not but that is common practice and everything else in the their other rooms were not re-used. ➖The general vibe feels like a room created 10 years ago, it doesn't feel modern ➖Story and narrative is forgettable I'd recommend a team of 2-4 enthusiasts. The Attic at Just Escape was our 2nd room we tried there (previously did Floor 66) and this was another fun room. The Attic was a very linear game with a lot of puzzles and some red herring types of decorations that you think should be part of the game, but really are just decor. We did the room as a pair and spent far too long in the first room on the first 2 puzzles since we thought items we had discovered would be used immediately (but they were not). We also waited way too long to ask for a hint, which made the rest of the experience more of a panic against the clock, as opposed to allowing enjoyment in the room. Before we started, I told our GM (Kayla) to be proactive with giving us hints if we were ever running behind, as we were a pair, but the hints never came unless we asked for them. Then, when the hints did come, they were described in an unusual manner that we did not connect with easily. Regardless, I appreciate that our GM slowed the clock down to allow us to experience the entire room. There were several fun puzzles that took some skill and had me thinking I was on MTV’s The Challenge, so we still had a lot of fun.

This room was a hoot. Some super fun reveals and puzzles that I enjoyed much more than I should have. Difficult in my opinion but not frustratingly so, which led to a good flow and fun time the entire way through. The set is very cozy with a homemade feel, though I learned the new owner (who is FANTASTIC btw) is actively working on cosmetic improvements and new puzzles for the space which is exciting to hear, since this game has been around for a little while. Very much looking forward to seeing how this room evolves!

Fun room. This room has less puzzles than most but they are difficult puzzles so it balances out nicely.

A few skill oriented parts of the room where you can easily get stuck, but overall a fun room with an awesome GM

Very good beginner room with some hard puzzles. The flow of the room was linear and easy for a starting room. The look was great but the owner let us know there are some upgrades on the way for the set design aspect.
