It’s been years since you’ve last seen your grandpa, so you’ve planned a surprise visit to go see him. When arriving at his home, you find it vacant, covered in layers of dust. The bed is made, but appears to have not been slept in for ages, and all the food in the fridge has long expired. Where has your grandpa gone? You find a small notebook on his desk. It’s your grandpa’s journal! It contains notes about a holy guru known to his followers as “The Mole of The Mountain”, who promises to teach those who seek him the path to enlightenment. Intrigued, you set off to follow in your grandpa’s footsteps. The notes in his journal lead you to an abandoned scrapheap. You discover a giant mountain of trash within. There is a cave-like entrance into the trash heap. This must be where your grandfather went! You bravely venture forth into the cavernous mouth of this mountain of trash. What secrets await you inside?

Highly recommend! Loved, loved, loved the theme! The design of the room is amazing and the Easter eggs were fun for the Gen X’ers (well me, the kids didn’t get all the cool references). 100% worth the drive down from Boston and it pays to be the last group of the night so you can chat all things escape rooms with Taylor and Sheryl. They are amazing game masters, designers, and all around wonderful people. This room was so much fun so when you go tell S’mores we said hi :)

Upside Escapes was so worth the drive from Boston! The theming was something I’ve never seen before and the room has a charm unlike any rooms in the area. The twist at the end is very thoughtful and satisfying. We even got the easter egg tour at the end and Taylor shared how he chose what he did to put in the room. Taylor, Sheryl, and S’mores were all awesome and you can tell they really put a lot of love into the rooms they make! We even took some business cards so that we can promote such an awesome company.

This game deserves all the recognition in the world. Among the games at Upside Down (which are all rock solid) this one was my favorite. There are so many reasons to stop and admire things in this game. I would say that if you play, you’ll stop at least a few times and say “how did they do that?” Having played 600+ games it becomes more and more difficult to see true originality. Welp, congrats to these guys because I’ve never seen a junkyard game and it was the polar opposite of trash. If you’re anywhere near the area, venture out and play this. Undeniably worth traveling from Boston to make sure you check this off your bucket list.

Gameplay

Very creative and satisfying puzzles!

Atmosphere

I’ve never spoken so highly of a trash heap before

Customer service

Very kind and accommodating staff. Sheryl, Taylor and Chloe were all super nice but the real highlight was Smores

Story

A really well written story plays out here and ends in a way that you’re not expecting. Don’t play for speed, play to sit back and drink in all that Mole has to offer

This is one of those rooms I'll be talking about for years to come; rooms like this are why I do escape rooms. Firstly, a HUGE thank you to the GM from a logstical perspective. We arrived for our 11:45 arrival at 11:55 (we drove 2hrs to get here and the traffic just wasn't on our side), and the GM was very patient and kind when she had every right to be frustrated. We also took 76min to escape this 75min room, and because we were so close the GM added an extra minute to the clock without us knowing. I absolutely love when rooms are willing to bend the clock in favor of letting players complete the storyline. And what an amazing storyline it was! From the intro video to the very last seconds in this room, I was amazed by the story, the set, the details—anyone designing escape rooms should visit this room for inspiration. Not only were the narrative/set/immersion amazing, but the puzzles were just as high-quality. We saw some unique puzzle types we've never seen before, and clever spins on classic puzzles (extra shout out to the washing machine!), and appreciated the wide variety of puzzle types allowing us to tap in on many different types of thinking. I truly do not have enough praise for Mole of the Mountain, it is well worth traveling for.

Accessibility

One or two puzzles require seeing from a bit of a height. The room provides a step stool for folks who are shorter, but if you utilize certain mobility aids the step stool might not be accessible. That said, I would actually consider this to be one of the most accessible rooms I've seen: no crawling, crouching, or climbing, and a wide variety of puzzle types. There are puzzles for everyone, even if not everyone can do every puzzle, and the entirety of the space appeared to me to be wheelchair accessible.

Parking

Easy

Many large parking free lots within a quick walking distance.

Great production value. Very clear that a lot of time and thought went into designing this room. Great variety and creativity in the puzzles, and a very fun(ny) twist in the story. One of the most fun rooms I've done.

Great production value, the "jump scare" isn't anyone jumping out at you or anything, not scary (which was good for our group!) Creative and unique puzzles that have you all over the rooms and going back and forth and needing to work together.

So great to hear this! Yes the "jump scare" isn't meant to actually be a jump scare, but we just wanted to have that potential trigger warning for people so I'm glad to hear it was good for you group! Thank you for playing!
