228 escape rooms
DID I EVER TELL YOU ABOUT THE TRAGEDY OF BENITO “BLOODY SWORD” BENITA??? This room has been on my wishlist since what feels like the dawn of time and I FINALLY got to experience NOT ONLY this wonderful pirate adventure BUT ALSO the whimsical world of the Queenscliffe Maritime Museum afterwards and it. Was. Outstanding!! There’s genuinely so much to love about this escape room from its seaside location, to its authentic nautical set design (IT’S SET IN A REAL BOAT), I was pretty sold before I even stepped foot in the room. We were given a comprehensive history of our dear friend Benito and his treasure by our GM Pauline who was LOVELY (but we’ll get to that later). Shackled, bound, restrained and left to our own devices we were greeted with so many fun and charming puzzles and props ranging in variety and difficulty. I LOVED it! Delightful inclusions of outfits, toys, lights, knickknacks and of course TREASURE (yeah we found it, no big deal) kept us so smitten and engaged from start to finish, it’s absolutely perfect for families, tourists, beginners and lovers of little puzzles. Even as someone who’s played a bazillion rooms, what I found most enjoyable about this experience was its simplicity and its charm, it wasn’t trying to show off or reinvent the wheel, it was made by people who have passion and creativity and want you to just relax and have a good time, even after playing it weeks ago it still comes to mind because of how much gosh darn fun I was having. Pauline and her team have done such a marvellous job creating this little wonder, and there’s even whispers of a little upgrade in the future so it’s only going to get EVEN BETTER (I can’t wait). Pauline herself was wonderful to chat with both before and after the game, even opening a custom game-time on a Tuesday morning just for us! She came across as enthusiastic about the industry whilst also so receptive to feedback and new ideas, thanks for having us, Pauline! Please take a trip over and play it, it’s so nice. Rooms like this are why I love escape rooms as much as I do.
