Storyteller's Secret

This is fairly linear in a way that two people can solve it without feeling frustration that one of you isn't a good fit for certain puzzles, but nonlinear in the sense that you can split up and look for different clues or complete solves independently as well. All puzzles are simple enough that a wide range of demographics will feel comfortable; nothing requires advanced knowledge or skill. It's still challenging enough for more advanced groups to have a good time because the environment is so engaging and fun. Those really keen on the stories behind the solves will probably find this a great room because it's truly a story itself. I'm almost never interested in the story and find them to be irrelevant, but not this time. 10/10 don't miss it. As a couple we would recommend for groups of 2-3.

It is undoubtedly a great family-friendly room, amazing mechanicals, great story - we unfortunately did not have a good time due to the GM's pacing. In a parallel universe, this would have been a great room for us.

This game was pretty neat given the various spaces inside. The set design was really cool and unique. We did this game with 2 people and thought it was manageable but does require a lot of team work and coordination across the space. In my opinion the puzzles were on the harder side, not because they were hard per se but because it was hard to know what exactly to do at times. Although this was a 75 minute game, we were still able to get out in under an hour.

Absolutely amazing room! Top 3 at the moment easily. So unique and immersive, would love to experience playing this again someday

One of the absolute BEST rooms I’ve done! Had a particular element on the design that I’ve never seen before and was absolutely brilliant!

1st timing visiting Boxaroo in downtown Boston and Storyteller’s Secret was a fantastic experience. We arrived early, so it was fun talking with the host about Boxaroo’s rooms, other ER places in Boston, and about other great rooms we have done in the past. Storyteller’s Secret intro video gave a detailed background story using text, audio, and graphics which really allowed us to connect well with the story and got us more immersed than usual (before it even started). The room sets were all really creative and well done, and the vibe for the room was just relaxing. There was a good amount to do throughout and we got off to a slow start (as we usually do as a pair), but we never felt panicked or rushed. Room was linear and even if we did not use the book much, there were subtle clues for what to work on next. After finding the first few objects, the flow to the room was really good, and knowledge gained from prior chapters allowed us to progress very quickly later on. There was a wide variety of puzzles, so something for everyone. Room had a ton of cool tech where things were made, opened after achieving objectives, or played audio/visual aides to give a congratulatory sense of completion when achieved. Some fun mechanical types of puzzles while mixed with tech, made for a lot of fun surprises. Only 1 standard lock was used in this room. Finale was a fun end to the story and gave us a good rush of accomplishment. Indrid was a great GM with good enthusiasm and energy. Indrid interacted with us in a subtle way, which was perfect, even allowing us to be creative in figuring out on our own how to complete a 3 person puzzle with 2 people. You can tell customer service is very important at Boxaroo, which makes an ER experience that much better. Highly recommend Storyteller’s Secret, but bring only 2-3 people.

We finished out the Boxaroo trio with this room and boy we were glad to have saved this for last. This is a wonderful room full of adventure and wonder. We had a blast in this room, the puzzles were unique and the scenery was lovely.

Beautiful room with a lovely message! I loved every second of it. The atmosphere is reminiscent of a cozy point-and-click adventure indie game. That is exactly my bread and butter. There’s even a pleasant cozy corner surrounded by the big books. The places you see here are varied and wonderful. The puzzles are great, although I wasn’t as fond of some of the repetition of tasks. It made the already 75 minute runtime feel longer than it was. The final puzzle was so clever though! And it almost made me cry. If you’re in Boston, BOOK it! The storyteller has a magnificent story to tell, and by the time you finish this room, I hope you do too!
