Old Jail

The beginning was really frustrating because not only could we not see each other but we could barely hear each other over the “thunder”. Communicating what you have in your room is KEY! The puzzles definitely didn’t feel like they fit the theme but there were some that we had never seen before which was cool! There was a lock we never used before that ate up a lot of our time but we still managed to make it out with 30 seconds left to spare! There weren’t too many puzzles and they weren’t too hard however I think what made it difficult was not being able to hear each other well in the beginning and only having 60min. We would have gotten away with using less hints if we had 75min but we panicked at the end.

I was here for one of my bachelor party events and it was a blast! We did Old Jail and our game host was Hannah. She was super fun and made an already fun room even better! The room was awesome, from the theming to the puzzles. I will definitely be coming back to do the rest of the rooms when I visit St. Augustine again.

Gameplay was good and linear, but three puzzles needed direction from the game master because the mechanisms for the puzzles were nonfunctional. The game was definitely run down and in need of refurbishment to fix those items.

This room brought a new light to the “jail” theme that so many other rooms try to do. There were so many unique aspects and challenges that I have not encountered before that made it exciting!

GM was terrible. We asked for a hint on an early puzzle and he told us the incorrect numbers in our answer were correct. This ruined the game because we then spent most of our time trying to figure out the other numbers with incorrect assumptions. We told him he gave us wrong numbers for the hint after the game and he just shrugged and said "oh ok". Don't waste your money at Escape U because they don't care about your experience.

The theming of the Old Jail escape room was really cool and immersive! The atmosphere felt authentic, and the setup added to the challenge in a fun way. However, the noises at the beginning were extremely loud—while I understand that they’re meant to make communication difficult, they were genuinely painful for my ears and head. Thankfully, as we progressed out of the jail cells, the sound levels became much more manageable. One of my favorite parts was the live actor—their role made total sense within the story and added a really fun, interactive element to the experience! Reece was a fantastic Game Master—kind, helpful, and knew exactly when to step in with hints without giving too much away. As for group size, I think four people might be too many, depending on the skill levels of the players. Personally, I feel I would have enjoyed it more with just one other person. Overall, it was a fun and well-designed room!
