An old legend tells the tale of the cowardly murder of Saint-Rumoldus, patron saint of Mechelen, around the year 770. In the vicinity of Mechelen, deep in the forests of the rural town of Hombeek, Rumoldus realised his plan to build a small church. Much against the custom of his time, he paid his construction crew a fair salary for their work, leading the locals to suspect that Rumoldus had to be exceptionally wealthy. During an evening stroll on the church grounds one night, Rumoldus was mugged by two men. They beat him to death and robbed him of what little money he had on him, before dumping his body in the river Dijle and fleeing the crime scene. A couple of days later, a passerby noticed a magical light shining over the water. Rumoldus’ body was recovered from the water and serenely laid out in the church. Ever since, a devoted congregation has been watching over his grave and church. Every now and then, ‘miracles’ occur in the church of Saint-Rumoldus: tears start to well up in the eyes of the saint statues, candles suddenly light up near the shrine… That is why believers from all corners of the country come to visit the church to honour Saint-Rumoldus. Out of the blue, you receive a call from pastor Albay, nowadays the custodian of the church. Impressed and driven to despair by recent “abnormal activities”, the priest was forced to flee from the church. He now needs your help to find out what is going on and to discover the cause of the miracles…

This was the third escape room we played at this provider. I won’t go into detail about the location again, as I’ve already covered that in my other reviews. As usual, we received an email beforehand that introduced us to the story really well and made us curious about what to expect. This room actually surprised us in a positive way. Despite its age, it’s still a really fun escape room. Of course, there were a few more traditional padlocks than you would typically find in modern escape rooms, but that didn’t affect the flow of the game at all. The setting was well designed and fitted the theme and story nicely. The story was also inspired by the history of Mechelen. However, you shouldn’t expect a historically accurate experience. The room mainly uses historical figures as inspiration for its own storyline. Even though we went over the time limit, the staff kindly allowed us to continue playing at our own pace and finish the room. We really appreciated that, so a big thank you again! Overall, despite its age, this is still a really cool and enjoyable escape room that we had a lot of fun playing!

The set ranged from decent (slightly boxy, more like a decorated room than a transformed space) to good, puzzles made sense and were reasonable, though pacing felt a little uneven (this might have just been us). I liked the ending sequence, which felt like a good conclusion. As usual with horror rooms, lighting was a bit dimmer than I would have liked.

One section require players to crouch/crawl a moderate distance. Not everyone needs to go, though you'll miss seeing the area.

it's an older room without the spectacle of many modern rooms. No giant moving walls or mechanical reveals. But it creates a world that feels grounded and real. Some of the things within the game feel like holdovers from an earlier generation, but it works. It's a game that is built with care and that pulls you in gently with its atmosphere and tone of quiet unease.

We did Hans revenge too and preferred that room. This room had great set design but a few of the puzzles were annoying in design and the GM didn’t seem very helpful in pushing us through when we got stuck. We narrowly escaped and the game should have probably been 10 mins longer. A few of the puzzles were just trying to find small hidden objects in a dark space, which is more annoying than fun. Some minor tweaks would definitely greatly improve the room but even so it was still very fun with a lot of twists and turns.

We played Han’s Revenge earlier this year, so when we returned to Belgium we wanted to try their older room, Saint-Rumoldus. Although it their older room, it has held up really well. I loved the puzzles, the theme, and the design. Although we were two, we finished with quite some time left, so it is an easier game than Han’s Revenge (which we almost didn’t finish), but we never felt the puzzles were too easy. Looking forward to their third “experience” opening at the end of the year!

This is a fantastic immersive room. It is a bit spooky but not scary. This room had a lot of good, creative puzzles and many special effects. Every time we thought that we might be close to the end, another room opened for us. Great staff and room worked well - was in great condition.
