Being one of the highest rated rooms at Rush I was pretty excited to finally play Game of the Dragon, once it was over I had some mixed feelings but it was still overall a solid game.
Really strong set dressing and design, the large space is utilised well with a mountain of multi-linear puzzles all of which were fun, interactive and on-theme within the medieval world around us.
With a healthy mix of locks, keys and tech, the puzzle flow was interesting but didn’t really incorporate anything that I would consider out of the box.
After happily completing about 2/3 of the content in the first area, it was unfortunately the smaller second room that let the whole thing down. A huge assortment of props covered in writings, symbols and unique features served as nothing more than red herrings which needlessly detracted us from an experience that was already stacked with puzzles. Not to mention lugging 15-odd wooden planks around only to spend 10 minutes on hands and knees, awkwardly assembling them on the ground. I’m an old man, Rush pls don’t do this to my poor knees.
The whole final act felt like a strange, rushed afterthought and could definitely use a rework.
Having said that, Game of the Dragon does have a lot of potential to be an amazing room from start to finish!
