The Admiral has given you direct orders to gather a crew to go in search of the Lost Island of the Voodoo Queen. Finding the right sailors might not be so easy as nobody has lived to tell about such an island or if it actually exists. If you find it, you shall seek and gather the knowledge to what is known as "eternal loneliness" from the Voodoo Queen; something the Admiral greatly seeks but for which you do not know the meaning of.

59 escape rooms

Out of the 5 rooms we did at Escaparium, I had the most fun in this room. The beginning got off to a rocky start because despite being constantly told that it is “absolutely not scary,” there were eerie vibes. Fortunately, we had run into another group that warned me about motion sickness in this room, and they accommodated that. The first part of the room is extremely linear and bottlenecks early. Experienced players will find themselves standing around waiting for the next puzzle to unlock. While none of the puzzles were especially novel, they were on theme and fun to complete! The set was also immersive, and it added to my enjoyment of the room. Overall, I liked this room because it was puzzle-focused and didn’t involve interacting with a human for a majority of the room. At the end, the game master did not respect my request to not do a jump scare, and she is lucky to not have come near me, or she would have gotten punched.

Gameplay

The beginning has a bottleneck, but after the first part, it flowed well! I found the puzzles fun.

They told us we are the new record holders for this room. So that is cool. We loved this room. The theme is awesome and the set had a special feature that we have never seem before and also a super unique puzzle we have never seen before and I doubt we will again. One of the characters is also super cute and really well done. Very creative and I really enjoyed it. Because we got out so quickly, we had lots of time to talk with the gamemaster after the fact and he showed us around the set. It's fantastic. So over the top and awesome. The puzzles were also alot of fun and on theme as well. Definitely another must-do at Escaparium Laval.

We did the ctrl + alt first and voodoo second, I’d say this one has more puzzle if you are into the puzzle solving and ctrl alt feels more like you are experiencing an adventure. Both are good but I’m just super blown away by ctrl alt and this one feels more like a traditional escape room

Pirate themes are common in escape rooms, but this was a very good execution. The ship itself is immersive, the game intro has a nice bit of theater that sets you up with a creative alternative to a walkie-talkie, and the puzzles are thematic, tactile, and creative.

Gameplay

The whole game ran very smoothly and flowed well to create a complete adventure.

Atmosphere

The set was excellent. A puzzle in act one makes great, thematic use of sight lines. The act two space felt larger than it was thanks to the lighting. And the game makes great use of hydraulics.

While only appearing physically at the start and end, our actor did a great job and really helped set the tone.

At its core, this is a pirate game. No shocking twists or turns in the story, but a wonderfully executed pirate game. Many things you might think "I wish a pirate game had X", show up here. The finale did not pack a punch as we had expected, and the game was on the easy side, finishing with 30 minutes left. The set is downright fantastic, although we had some noise bleed with the lobby construction happening, hearing buzz saws and groups walking by. Once the lobby is complete, I would not expect this to be an issue. If you have experience, take your time, explore the set and story, and enjoy your time on The Lost Island of the Voodoo Queen!

This was our first room in this location and... it was an amazing choice to start. This is a good place to see how talented, passionate, and creative the crew behind these rooms is. This room is beautiful, amazing, immersive and fun!

This was a really fun room. The special effects and production values were really good. I do wish the lighting was slightly better, but other than that, it did a really good job of transporting us into a set from Pirates of the Caribbean. Compared to Magnifico, Wardrobe for Sale, and The Hidden Cathedral, this one felt the lightest in terms of story and roleplaying. However, it felt very balanced in terms of puzzles and production quality. The puzzles were pretty good, but there were a few that had multiple steps where it was easy to miss something. These are just minor complaints because the overall room is fantastic and fun, but if you're looking for stories like their other rooms, this may not be the best fit.

This game had very solid and fun puzzles, and again the set design here was immaculate. The way to interact with your GM in this one was very funny. I will say that there are a lot of tripping hazards on this one. Beware of your surroundings as there are steps up and down that are kind of "hidden" (they blend in well) and there's a "tricky" area once you get to the 2nd room.

Escaparium operates on an entirely different level than any escape room I have done to date. This is something you need to experience for yourself and not let me ruin one moment of it with my review. I knew we were in for something special just from the way we were introduced to the game. I love that the GM came into the lobby in character and recruited us for the game! Even better was how the GM became our clue giver (an amazing effect that had me laughing for the first few minutes of the game). The set was beyond amazing. This was a set I would be perfectly happy to just walk through all of the parts and simply explore. It is simply that impressive! The puzzles are a really nice mix and have a little something for everyone. I will say, in the interest of everyone experiencing the whole game, save the logic puzzle for everyone. I chose to tackle it myself and missed out on three puzzles that I really wanted to see in action. The ending was great and I only had one wish that would have made it perfect. Absolutely amazing!
