Rating: 5/5 - Wow, fantastic, it surprised me in one of the best ways. Must-play for Jurassic Park fans. Here's why this is one of my favorites rooms: ➕ They tout this as a cinematic experience and it does feel that way, it's like you're visiting Jurassic Park. This room would be right at home at Universal Studios. ➕ Set looks amazing, with multiple scene changes and great use of elevation. They spared no expense. ➕ Tons of tech with great use of audio and special effects. There were some padlocks but where they were used made sense. ➕ Some puzzles felt more task-like but to me that adds immersion, I don't like escape room logic. ➕ Puzzles were fun and fit the theme, they had physical/tactile aspects. ➕ Multiple climactic and "wow" moments, it was fun progressing through the game. ➕ GM was helpful when needed The game has some tense moments and loud noises but it's not scary or spooky. I would recommend 2-4 players. My ranking of Memphis Escape rooms I've played starting with my favorite: 1. Jurassic Project 2. Monsters from the Abyss 3. Shipwreck Cove 4. One Night in the 90s

Rating: 4/5 - Excellent, well rounded pirate room with great set, flow, and enjoyable puzzles Pros: ➕The set was beautiful, decorated floor to ceiling with some elevation change. Not the biggest pirate set I've seen, but it looked the part and we did feel like we were on a ship. ➕High immersion, even the timer/hint screen was designed to fit the theme. ➕Puzzles fit the theme and were enjoyable, there was a nice variety. ➕Gameplay flowed very well, the difficulty was just right for us. We didn't need any hints but also didn't feel like the puzzles were too easy. ➕A nice amount of tech, with some padlocks mixed in. ➕Satisfying ending ➕Had some things I haven't seen before even after 250+ rooms ➕Some cool audio effects ➕Multiple areas to discover with some nice surprises Room for improvement: ➖Many areas were too dark with no lighting provided, I used my own flashlight ➖Some locks were modern combo locks, this breaks immersion for me. Some of the locks were old-timey but not all of them. We played as a team of 2 enthusiasts and it felt about right, so I recommend 2-3. There are some smaller spaces so you don't want a lot of people. Some people may need to climb/descend some steep stairs. Game is not really scary or creepy but may have some slightly startling noises. My ranking of Memphis Escape rooms I've played starting with my favorite: 1. Jurassic Project 2. Monsters from the Abyss 3. Shipwreck Cove 4. One Night in the 90s

Rating: 4/5 - A lot of fun, especially if you love nostalgia Pros: ➕The vibe of the set felt just right for a skating rink, they decorated it floor to ceiling and it felt spacious. ➕ Puzzles were fun, varied, and fit the 90s theme, there were lots of props. ➕ Loved the optional physical challenge, I've never done or seen that activity in an escape room before. ➕Tons of nostalgia for millennials ➕Good use of audio ➕A nice amount of tech, with some padlocks mixed in. ➕GM was helpful when needed Room for improvement: ➖One puzzle felt particularly unintuitive. Even with the solution, I wasn't sure how it was supposed to be solved until the GM explained at the end. ➖Some parts of the set looked a bit sparse, it would be nice if they added more detail. ➖It's mostly just a single room game, you don't get to discover new areas, though it's a fairly large space. I played this solo (paid for 2 tickets) and finished with time to spare but I got nudges/hints from the GM. I would recommend 2-4 players. My ranking of Memphis Escape rooms I've played starting with my favorite: 1. Jurassic Project 2. Monsters from the Abyss 3. Shipwreck Cove 4. One Night in the 90s

Like every other game we've played at Memphis Escape Rooms, Magician's Code is very well designed and fun to play. The theme of the room was very immersive and there were some fun, and unique, elements in the room. The room is mostly linear is the progression is very well thought out. Easily on of our favorite rooms at Memphis Escape Rooms.

Fun room with a lot of interesting elements. Staff were extremely quick with hints (usually we ask for no hints but forgot due to the unusual beginning of the room), so something to note to them if you don't love hints. Puzzles were great and well-themed; however, some things had to be manipulated after completing the puzzle to access them. It wasn't always clear what was planned to open, so we had completed puzzles a couple of times and were waiting for something to happen when we had push or pull on it to make it work. The center platform in the room and I did not get-along, as I smashed my shin into the bottom every time I had to interact with it. I'm shorter, so it was hard to reach anything without getting my legs very close to it. May be a unique to me experience, but definitely watch your legs! It was very warm in the room, something we haven't noticed in other rooms. All of that being said, one of the strongest Christmas-themed rooms we've played. Game host was very nice and very respectful of our no-hint request once we asked them for it.

Rating: 4.5/5 - Wow, one of the most innovative sets I've ever seen, plus everything is tech Pros: ➕ They do something really cool in this room, it's a unique design. I've seen feeble attempts at this affect probably 10+ times in other rooms but no other company comes close to what they achieved here. Days later, I'm still trying to figure out how they did it. ➕ Set aesthetically looks great and is highly immersive ➕ Fully tech based puzzles (everything worked), no padlocks. Despite the tech, they still include tactile/physical interactions ➕ Great use of audio and special effects ➕ Fun storyline and progression, I like how the puzzles/tasks relate to the story. ➕ Climactic ending ➕ Some nice surprises and amusing moments ➕ GM is friendly and helpful Minor cons: ➖The flow can be a bit choppy due to some waiting that's required ➖Some of the puzzles weren't that fun, felt a bit tedious Room is a bit creepy at times with some minor startling moments (no major jump scares) but I wouldn't consider it scary. I recommend 2-4 players the game is very linear, you can solo this (like I did) but the GM may need to bypass some puzzles that require more than 1 person. Merry Movie Christmas

We tend to put off Christmas rooms because we usually find them to be weaker, but the two Christmas rooms at MER right now are fantastic. Strong room design and good story progression. Middle of this experience was our least favorite but still fine. Just a fun room overall. I would consider this to be an easy room, but the puzzles are varied and fit well with the story, with awesome set design. EVERYTHING WORKED, and game was run very well with an appropriately interactive but efficient game master (we've had a bad run with our last 3 games at this location in these 2 areas). Just a great experience from start to finish.

This is definitely on the harder side for MER, it's a fun challenge with unique elements that we liked. It does seem like it would be easier with a larger group, but the 2 of us were able to get the whole thing done and escape in time. There's one section that I would say is one of my favorite elements of all time in escape rooms, so it's worth it just to get to that. I haven't seen it anywhere else, and it's super cool.

This room has two different outcomes, and we have played them both. This version of the room is fantastic. The room is extremely immersive; the flow of this version of the game is awesome; and the variety of puzzles is great, regardless of what type of room you typically prefer. The room does have some minimally physical elements, so this would be something to consider if you have mobility issues. There were a couple of very minor administrative things that slightly impacted the game. First, as is typical for many rooms, a video is shown before the room giving instructions as to what you are and are not allowed to do in the room; however, one of the puzzles in this room requires that you perform an activity you are explicitly warned not to do during the video. It would be beneficial for this to be addressed before the room or somehow with instructions during gameplay, as we avoided this initially based on instructions. We also had some difficulty with one of the activities registering that we had completed the task, but we only had to work with it a little before we were able to proceed. I would definitely go this route with this room, as the other storyline of this room was the only bad experience in a room we have had with this company. This storyline, however, was one of the best.

How Do Escape Rooms Work?

Remember those point-and-click adventure games where you’re locked in a room and have to solve puzzles to find the key and escape? Those online games were the original inspiration for the live escape rooms you’ll find all across the world today. An escape room is an immersive experience where you (and your team of 2 or more people) are locked in a room with a series of puzzles for 60 minutes. To escape and win the game, you have to look for clues, solve the puzzles, and find the key. While most escape rooms only give you 60 minutes to complete the challenge, others may have shorter or longer time limits. Many venues are private rooms where you and your team are the only players. However, some places may pair you with other groups who booked a slot at the same time. And don’t worry about getting stuck, asking for hints on a difficult puzzle is totally normal. While the original escape room (created by SCRAP in 2007) had a fairly simple aesthetic, today’s escape games often take you into a different world. Artistic set designs, secret doors, and unique interactive elements are all part of the fun. It’s like an adventure game that you can interact with in real life. But if you’re hoping to preview any rooms before you book a game somewhere, detailed images and videos can be hard to find. To keep the puzzles a secret and preserve the experience of seeing the room for the first time, most venues only offer a few photos or a short trailer about the room’s theme or narrative. The only way to know what it’s like is to go and try it for yourself!
