The Warrior's WayRed Door Escape Room - ConcordEscape roomIRLWe were really excited for this one because we love a good split start. Unfortunately there were several things that fell flat for us. There was a puzzle feature that malfunctioned early on (non user error) and it not only cost us time asking for help and trying to figure out if we were missing something - but it ultimately resulted in a puzzle becoming unavailable to us. The GM had to provide the riddle to us via screen. Additionally, it was really challenging to make those earlier connections. In the next portion of the room, there was a puzzle we spent several minutes on (partially because of a misleading hint and sticky programming - having to go through the puzzle several times to ensure our timing was exact or pieces placed exactly was frustrating.) After that, things came together quickly and we managed to escape even without having to use the “extra minute” that was granted to us for the faulty puzzle earlier. This room has a lot of potential, but definitely needs some refurbishing/work. Friendly GMs and easy booking.
The Hex RoomCross Roads Escape GamesEscape roomIRLWe LOVED the hex room - the re-playability is high with a great split start. Great for teams and communication work. Olivia was the best GM ever. 💖
PlaygroundThe Escape Game - BrooklynEscape roomIRLThis one had A LOT of puzzles which we LOVED. Our core group was 6, and I think that was perfect range (6-8). Any more and it just gets crowded. We had three other people with us as it was a “shared experience” which is definitely not our fave, but they were nice to work with. They recommend up to 12 for the room, but that’s WAY too much. The concept was novel and just challenging enough. We used 2 hints and got a nudge, but overall was really fun.
Dash For CashExtreme Escape GamesEscape roomIRLThe experience I had with my family echos the other reviews here. This room was PACKED with puzzles which is usually a great thing. There were four of us and we had the natural inclination to split up when needed. This is also our 2nd game at this location. While the GM in the room is still novel, it did not serve us well this time. Although sometimes helpful, there was no real way to tell them to stop nudging and helping without being rude. There were some things in this room especially that would not have even been possible to do without the GM there, which I felt made the experience not successful. If we do another game at this location, I’m straight up telling them - don’t help until we explicitly ask. Even when we’re looking around confused. It really does hurt the experience when your hand held the whole time.
The Time MachineMindTrix Escape Room GamesEscape roomIRLMindTrix is definitely more story based solutions vs “getting out”. They will read a story but prior to letting you into the room which met mixed reactions within our group. There was plenty to do in this room so whether you have a couple people or a group, you could get through it pretty quick. I will say keep an eye on conjunctions in your clues.
PortlandiaEscape Games PDXEscape roomIRLThis one is a pretty busy room. A lot of ways to divide and conquer, and a lot of novel puzzles. We love the team and escape games pdx, I’m a little sad that we’ve now completed all the rooms there. 😭 highly recommend requesting Sarah or Zach, they’re the best game masters we’ve had. 🖤 Also, you’re going to want to - but DONT JUMP.
School Of MagicMindTrix Escape Room GamesEscape roomIRLThis was a really cute room. My husband and I did this room together and usually rooms with just the 2 of us require us to remain together. However with this one we were able to divide and conquer quite easily. Mike was fantastic and informative - a great listener who was really easy to work with. We’ll definitely be back for the other two.
The Fright Before Christmas - CLOSEDParadigmqEscape roomIRLThis was a cute room. Good for families. The puzzles were interesting and easy to make connections if you keep your eyes open. Don’t overthink, some of the puzzles really are that simple. Overall really cute room.
The Magician's MenagerieEscapism PortlandEscape roomIRLA nice Gen 1 room. Lot’s to do, and we definitely used a few hints (unlimited) we completed with two, but I think more eyes would have helped in the long run. Definitely overthought some things but over all enjoyed the themeing
Film NoirEscape Games PDXEscape roomIRLSara was a fantastic GM, she really helped keep us immersed. This room has a LOT of puzzles, so more people is better, but we did ok with two and got some “extra time when the chief was away”. Challenging without being frustrating. Loved the theme, and was relatively easy to make connections while non-linear.
Tales From The AtticEscape Games PDXEscape roomIRLThis room was definitely different, no traditional locks and keys, but writing a story. The atmosphere is incredible and Zach was an incredible GM. Definitely coming back!
ExcaliburMindTrap Escape Room - MurrietaEscape roomIRLThis was a novel and immersive room. Non-linear, but pretty easy to make connections. The two of us completed with 20 min left and only one hint with a few nudges. Sometimes hard to see, but not impossible.
Saving FrankensteinClockwise Escape Room - PleasantonEscape roomIRLThis was a fun theme - I definitely don’t see this type very often. There were sometimes that I was kind of confused by the flow, but had good nudges from the GM. Overall, pretty pleasant experience.
The Secret At Whitmore EstateBreaking Point Escape RoomsEscape roomIRLThis one was really fun. The build and decor were really immersive and our GM was great and the story was just the right amount of cheesy. Would recommend!
Zodiac KillerWild Goose Escapes - FullertonEscape roomIRLI have to be honest, we failed the first time we did this room. We came back two weeks later to finish the room for a bit of redemption. Overall, this room was pretty challenging, very linear so groups used to multitasking are a bit limited. I like the theming and the GMs got really into it both times - but you can either amp up the spooky, or ask them to tone it down for those less fond of spooks.
Cold War BunkerWild Goose Escapes - FullertonEscape roomIRLWe ended up doing this one because we were on a roll from completing two others and this one was a great addition. The environment and decor was really strong and there was a lot to do.
