Le Jour du Jugement [Judgement Day]
Eliviascape
Escape room
IRL
Our team of three LOVED this game and how the set and puzzles often reinforced, in subtle and clever ways, what a character was thinking/feeling, or even the dynamics of the story. It’s a room that ratchets up the tension as the story progresses, and has a wonderfully anxiety inducing finale.
Magnifico
Escaparium Laval
Escape room
IRL
There’s an apocryphal story about when The Beach Boys first heard Sgt Peppers. According to the story, after they first heard the Beatles album, they burned the tapes of the songs they just recorded. Nothing, so the story goes, could compete with what they just heard. I imagine quite a few escape room owners felt the same way after experiencing Magnifico. What could they ever do that would compare? Borrowing slightly from the plot (and sometimes songs) of The Greatest Showman, Magnifico’s Circus is spectacle, craft, and showmanship of the highest degree. It’s lavish. It’s surprising. It’s touching. It’s a weave of subtly and splendor that takes you on a narrative that plays out in the grandest of escape rooms. There aren’t many moments in life that take your breath away. This room is filled with numerous ones.

One of the strongest openings to a game that I’ve experienced. Filled with so many jaw dropping and awe inspiring moments. It’s a room where each puzzle pushes the narrative forward, and there are times where you don’t want to solve the puzzle too quickly because you want to stay and enjoy the room.
Ghost Patrol
Trivium Games
Escape room
IRL
Ghost Patrol doesn’t rely on spectacle to win you over—it earns your fun through coherence, care, and the steady accumulation of smart, often small choices. There aren’t any specific jaw-dropping moments. Instead, the game unfolds with a kind of restrained delight, aware that consistency and charm are sometimes more important. That’s not to say it’s never bombastic. The lighting and sound aren't afraid to be playful, even cartoony, sometimes erupting with a sudden glee or a cheerful burst when you solve something. But mostly it wins you over with things like the novelty of a specific decoder that you carry with you throughout the game. The game understands that delight doesn’t require everything to be over the top. Sometimes it can come from a smirk, a glimmer, a strange little noise from a glob of green goo.

Escape room

A room with a “wow” ambience and “wow” execution, that we adored. There are creepy moments, and it definitely sticks with that vibe throughout, but it wasn’t anything one of our members (who is a bit of a scaredy cat) couldn’t handle. We liked how they handled the cluing system if you were in a particular room or stuck on a particular puzzle too long, especially since it fit into the vibe of the room. However, opinions may vary about its unsolicited nature.
The Man From Beyond

Some escape rooms impress. Some challenge. And then there are the rare few that transcend—games that don’t just test your logic but grip your emotions, that don’t just immerse you but make you care. This was my 100th escape room, a milestone I wanted to mark with something exceptional, and what I found here was beyond. The atmosphere, immersion, and puzzles were intricate, seamless, and alive. The acting was at a level rarely seen in escape rooms—so committed it felt more like stepping into a film. But what I didn’t anticipate, what I couldn’t have anticipated, was the emotional gravity of it all. By the end, I’ll admit it, I was teary. We flew to Houston just for this, endured numerous delays on our way, and yet, standing there in the final moments of the game, it was worth every second. There are great escape rooms, and then there are the ones that shift what is possible—this was the latter, and it was breathtaking.
L'Île perdue de la Reine Vaudou [The Lost Island of the Voodoo Queen]
Escaparium Laval
Escape room
IRL
Every puzzle in this game (with maybe one exception) makes sense. It makes sense thematically, it makes sense narratively, and it makes sense just in terms of being flat out fun. Our team of four had a blast.
Dragon Alley
Keystone Escape Games
Escape room
IRL
Fun room with a wisecracking skeleton as a guide. Obvious care and craft have been spent on the set and feel of the room, and had some puzzles I enjoyed quite a bit. We did it with a team of three and think a team of 3-5 is ideal.
Robotopia
Omescape - Sunnyvale
Escape room
IRL
Robotopia is a game that creates a world that is both a retro sci-fi throwback, and also one with its tongue firmly planted in its cheek. It’s playful, clever, and some of the most fun you’ll have for two hours in an escape room. The set is incredibly well crafted and often uses a kind of architectural sleight of hand to return players to spaces they thought they knew (but now have changed). But it doesn’t coast on atmosphere alone (though it could) --the puzzles are varied, grounded, and completely in keeping with the world. Even before you understand “how” to do something, you understand “why” it needs to be done. This game was an absolute delight to play, right down to the final moment which had our team debating what we should do.
The Forest of Fables
CU Adventures in Time and Space
Escape room
IRL
Forest of Fables is one of those games that has a certain kind of magic… you can feel the intention and love behind the game. The set had charm and whimsy and craft. Familiar fables took unexpected turns, and kept us surprised and delighted. The puzzles were charming and logical and drove the story forward. The in room actor was fun, funny, and completely in sync with the theme. Finally, the overarching narrative felt like it had stakes, we wanted to succeed, not just for us, but also for (redacted). We played as a duo and made it out thanks to our game master who, late on a Friday night, was kind enough to let us go beyond our time. (She never said that, but when we checked the time when we left, it was obvious.). It is possible to do with two, but we clearly would have benefitted from a third. We didn’t hang up on any puzzles, but did spend a bit too long, occasionally, solving together. This was our first game at CUAdventures escape room, and it’s easy to see why people travel from all over the country to play here (including us, we came from Nevada).
