Gold RushThe Escape Game - GaslampEscape roomIRLThe room was very cool. There were fun challenges that I have never seen in an escape room before. The thing that stood out the most was their customer service. They wanted to make sure we had the best time we could possibly have. I can’t wait to try their other games. One thing I will say, the parking is a nightmare so arrive early and be prepared to walk a couple blocks.
Deja Vu - CLOSEDEscape EraEscape roomIRLAnother good room from Escape Era. Our group did Expert Mode and escaped with 11 minutes to spare. The puzzles were cool and the doors to the next room were even cooler. There is an aspect where you have to crawl so if that is a problem, I would skip this room but if not, I highly suggest this room. They have a normal version for beginners and an expert version for experienced players. This really makes the room versatile.
Captain Maniacal's LairboratoriumRed Door Escape Room - San DiegoEscape roomIRLThis was a mini episode of 30 minutes. It was a good little escape room. There was only one room but lots of good puzzles. 3 people is the maximum amount of people to play this game and any more would be too much anyway. I would suggest this game for beginners or people trying to kill a few minutes.
Resident Alpha [prev. CSI Lab] - CLOSEDThe Unlockables - Kearny MesaEscape roomIRLThis was a fun room but a little on the easy side. We are experienced escape room goers and escaped with 30 minutes to spare. The room was immersive and the props were cool. Definitely fed my nerdy side with all the science paraphernalia. Would recommend as a beginner room especially with unlimited hints.
Arcade - CLOSEDEscape EraEscape roomIRLVery cool and unique. I loved the retro vibes. We did this room with 4 people and I feel like if we had any less, we wouldn’t have escaped. The puzzles were challenging but very clever. Very much would recommend.
Black and White CafeMindFox EscapeEscape roomIRLThis is a great beginner’s room or one for very small groups. We did it with 2 people. It was very clean. The puzzles were cool and the design was awesome. The staff here is so friendly. They even greet you outside when you park the car. They are even the ones that suggested this app to us. We have done both rooms at MindFox Escape and can’t wait for them to open more.
The Missing Season - CLOSEDSteal and EscapeEscape roomIRLReally really good room. Lots of fun puzzles that were not like any we have seen before. The story line was fun and the game went really well with it and the special effects were cool as well. We did it with 4 people and I think that was the perfect number. We were able to divide and conquer. There is some crawling involved but not everyone has to do it.
The GiftRed Door Escape Room - San DiegoEscape roomIRLGreat room but lots of puzzles. We first tried this game with 2 people and didn’t escape. There was just too much to do. I suggest having at least 4 people in your group for this one. The design was cool and the puzzles were fun. We even did this room another time with another couple because we wanted to do the puzzles we couldn’t complete at first and it was just as fun as the first time. Of course we escaped that time lol
The DinerQuicksand Escape GamesEscape roomIRLThis is not a room for 2 people. There is too much stuff going on and lots of things to steer you in the wrong direction. Some of the puzzles were too complicated and not in a fun way. The set was pretty cheesy as well. I wish we would have done this with at least 2 more people because it might have changed my view of the room. All of the other rooms at Quicksand were awesome. This one was a disappointment.
The A.I. - CLOSEDThe Exit Game - San DiegoEscape roomIRLThis was a very cool room. Very high tech. There was only one thing in this room that bothered me but other than that, this room is awesome. I feel like you probably need at least 3 people for it. We did escape with 2 though…because they gave us an extra 5 minutes lol.
The Bayou: The Legend of the Midnight RavenThe EntrapmentEscape roomIRLThis room was challenging. We did it with 4 people and barely escaped. At first I wasn’t happy with the help feature inside the room since I felt like it was cheating but after a while, I realized, it is necessary. The room is very dark and that hindered us a bit for some of the puzzles. The puzzles were very unique and did take brain power. Overall, I enjoyed all of the rooms here.
The Disappearance at Fogmore ManorThe EntrapmentEscape roomIRLThis was, by far, my favorite room of the 3. Really unique puzzles. Great story line. A bit of a challenge but we escaped with 2 people. This was a very linear room but I tend to like those best. I would go as far to say that this was one of my favorite escape rooms of all time.
The Lab 51 - Version 2 - CLOSEDThe Exit Game - San DiegoEscape roomIRLBy far, one of my favorite rooms to date. Awesome design. Great features. There was some crawling but not everyone has to crawl if you have an issue with tight spaces or weak knees. I highly recommend this room.
Elite Hunting Club - CLOSEDPhenomenal Escape RoomEscape roomIRLThis room had the potential to be cool but because of my lack of flexibility, it turned it into a nightmare. I was handcuffed behind my back the entire game and wasn’t able to participate in much. The handcuffs also left bruises on my wrists for a few days after. If you like the SAW movies, you will probably like this game. Just be aware that it does require some flexibility in order to progress.
Clownatorium-2 Upside Down - CLOSEDNightwalker Caverns Escape Room AdventuresEscape roomIRLThis was a fun escape room. Definitely one of the more unique ones I have played. It was also longer than the typical 60 minutes which made it cool. My only complaint is that the game master is literally in the game with you the whole time. But this shows you how challenging the room actually is. This room is not linear and there are many times when you can go astray. I recommend all of these rooms for how unique they are.
Tut's Rut - CLOSEDNightwalker Caverns Escape Room AdventuresEscape roomIRLAnother room where the game master is with you the whole time. My group is experienced at escape rooms and we still needed lots of hints. Some of the hints didn’t even help. I am actually surprised we escaped. This is another non-linear room and there are lots of things happening at the same time. This wasn’t my favorite of the rooms at Nightwalker Caverns but it is unique and definitely worth a play.
Medieval - CLOSEDLockdown Escape Rooms - HillcrestEscape roomIRLThis was a fun room. We did it with 2 people and easily escaped. I don’t think you need much more than that. The room design was awesome and the puzzles were fun. Our game master was very nice as well. We liked all of the games at Lockdown. Lockdown is one of my favorite escape room companies in the San Diego area so far.
Wizards and Spells - CLOSEDEscape Game SDEscape roomIRLThis room was very cheesy. It was just 2 of us for the game and we got paired with 3 random people. It was awkward at first. Some of the props were finicky and made some of the tasks more difficult than they should have been. I would say this is a good game to take kids to but it would be very cheesy for adults.
Budapest ExpressEscapology - San DiegoEscape roomIRLAdventurers beware: make sure you keep track of where you found EVERYTHING because you will need it for the final task. We had all of our clues scattered everywhere and had to ask our game master where we found things. We ended up escaping but it was very close. The set is really pretty and definitely makes you feel like you are on a train. Make sure to show up a bit early because parking can be a nightmare.
Science - CLOSEDLockdown Escape Rooms - HillcrestEscape roomIRLIf anyone asks me which escape room was my favorite so far, I tell them this one. It has a 10% escape rate which tells you it is a bit of a challenge. I liked the science theme since I am a scientist. You don’t need science knowledge to do the puzzles though. There were many puzzles and I suggest doing this room with at least 4 people so you can split up and work on different puzzles at the same time. They did a good job and providing clues on which key went with each puzzle though. I thoroughly enjoyed this room.
