Trapped! Escape Room - Upland

UPDATE: The manager called me personally after my initial review and said heโ€™d look into it. He later emailed me and said he looked into things and sincerely apologized for our bad experience. He also offered us a free game to make up for that bad experience. We are booked to do another room in a couple weeks. He was really nice about everything and I was surprised at what great customer care he provided since that is rare nowadays. We truly appreciate their willingness to let us play another room and we look forward to coming back! I had high hopes for this room but was disappointed. Staff gets into character at the start of the game but forgot to give us our FBI jackets even though they are hanging on the wall before you enter the room. We were told the goal was not to escape but to gather as much evidence as possible. So, how do you know if you โ€œescapedโ€ or โ€œwon the game?โ€ You donโ€™t. This left things feeling unfinished. Especially when other reviews said they escaped/finished and were allowed to just keep working on puzzles since they still had time. That alone is confusing. We also had multiple puzzles malfunction in the first room and that wasted our time. Our GM later told us she could see on her end the puzzles were correct but couldnโ€™t get the technology to work. When I asked why she didnโ€™t just tell us the puzzle was correct and to move on, she said she tried to tell us but the mic for her to talk wasnโ€™t working. I donโ€™t believe that because when we asked for a clue she came on just fine to provide one. I think if you have multiple puzzleโ€™s malfunctioning and your GM can see this they should tell you and move you on to the next clue. It was very frustrating knowing we had a puzzle right but seeing nothing happening. This wasted a lot of time and kinda ruined the experience. The GM said we did really good โ€œeven with the tech issuesโ€ and โ€œmany people donโ€™t even make it to the third room.โ€ Overall, it was just frustrating because after awhile you didnโ€™t know if something wasnโ€™t working because you got the answer wrong or because it was another tech issue. I even mentioned we should be given another room since all of the tech issues ruined the experience but that suggestion was ignored.

GM was very nice but let us in late, started us late and there was no clock anywhere in the game for us to track time. Seemed like we got short changed on time. GM didnโ€™t ask at the start if we wanted nudges, just said to waive our arms if we wanted a clue. Also, there was no waiting area, no lockers and no use of their bathroom. We also werenโ€™t offered to take a pic after our game, nor was there an area or props to do so. During game play the GM came running in without warning because she realized a clue hadnโ€™t been reset. Totally threw off game play. The room was fun and challenging. There were lots of puzzles and lots to do. There were a couple puzzles that were a waste of time and didnโ€™t help the room progress though. We were a group of 3 and Iโ€™d say 3-4 players would have been ideal.
