There were several times we would get pieces/information and jump into using them and our GM would interrupt and say “great plan, but not yet- you need to use that later” which was frustrating. If the game gives us tools, we are going to use them. In this capacity it could definitely use a redesign.

It looked so inviting when the door opened to the room, but it just went downhill from there. We have a rather experienced team and there were many times throughout that we were frustrated with puzzles…not in the “we are being challenged in new ways” way, but rather the “we know the answers to these puzzles but the solutions aren’t working” way.

I will change the scenario a bit, but give you an example: we needed 5 numbers at one point but could only find 3. We asked for assistance and were told “you need to guess the other two and they go somewhere in the middle”… 😠🤯 we escaped but not happily. Good effort but poor execution.
Escape An Alien EncounterRetro ManiaEscape roomIRLGood scene design and started off relatively fine. Of all the set pieces we only interacted with 4 of them, so there was a lot of wasted space and scene in the room. Also excessive use of red herrings (locks that never needed opened to escape). We left this room frustrated because we thought we had the last puzzle solved, but the game master interrupted and said we were using the “puzzle piece” (don’t want to reveal the last piece) in the wrong place and needed to look elsewhere. We spend 10 minutes pushing/ pulling/tapping on everything we could touch in the room and asked for assistance…she tells us to take it to this certain place…where we had it the first time 🤦🏻♀️
The Lost TempleThe Experience Escape RoomsEscape roomIRLIt was a fun room. We struggled with a couple parts of the room, only to later find out it was a mechanical issue and they had to pause and come rescue some pieces for us. This happens.
The TerminalDistrict Eat & Play SalinaEscape roomIRLThis company is still struggling a bit to reset and master rooms. We had to stop twice to have the game master come in and reset something that was forgotten. At the end we had completed the final piece and then nothing happened for a while. We asked for a clue thinking we missed something and he told us to do the thing we already did…come to find out the game master triggers the release, not us, and he wasn’t paying attention when we did it the first time. The room itself was good, unique theme and puzzles. Hopefully they’ve learned a lot since the early days of starting and you won’t have the same experiences!
Death of Blackbeard - CLOSEDMurder EscapeEscape roomIRLA fun and well decorated room. This escape company has a different approach to escaping…more like a game of Clue where you have to solve three questions and correctly answer them AND escape. Be mindful of that when booking, this approach is not for everyone, but we had a good time!
The Secret AgentThe Experience Escape RoomsEscape roomIRLWe love the owners and staff at this location, but this is not the best room. It’s very small- so don’t plan on trying to take more than 3 people. The technology in this room was also lacking, one of the “locks” was not actually triggered by us solving it, they had to watch the camera and release something…but stepped away so we were putting the correct answer in for several minutes before anything happened.
