Tornado ShackLock Down Escape Rooms Red DeerEscape roomIRLThis room was unlike any we’ve done before. It’s extremely physically immersive, and you really do end up feeling like you might be fighting nature (and the clock) against a tornado. Trying to solve puzzles against this backdrop adds a whole new element. There were a wide variety of different kinds of puzzles, which is great as the members of our group all have different strengths. Everyone was able to feel useful. We would highly recommend this room - it’s a must do for anybody who enjoys escape rooms!
Hidden TreasuresLock Down Escape Rooms Red DeerEscape roomIRLThis room was well put together in the commonly used Pirate theme. The decor and finishing touches were on point. There are a LOT of puzzles and at 50 minutes it’s a short room. There was a wide variety of different kinds of puzzles with some that were more unique, which is fun. Our lanterns kept dying which was frustrating. We kept having to ask for new ones, which cost us time and focus. If this was a 60 minute room I would call it “hard,” but at 50 minutes I’m calling it “expert.” We’re definitely going to come back someday and do it again so that we can say we finished it!
NeurologicalEscape City - CalgaryEscape roomIRLThis room was such a neat idea! Your group is divided into two very different experiences. Being good at communicating with each other is really an advantage. The puzzles were different and creative, and we had a ton of fun debriefing and comparing our experiences with the room afterward.
RedemptionAlberta Provincial Police BarracksEscape roomIRLThis escape room is so unique! It utilizes the entire APP Barracks museum after hours as the canvas for your escape game. Clues are hidden throughout and make use of the existing decor. The game is well thought out and a lot of fun to play with a variety of different kinds of puzzles that help you learn some real local history while you’re playing. The Game Masters were also both incredible and so friendly. It’s such a great idea to use the museum for this purpose. We had so much fun and we can’t wait to come back and do more.
AsylumLocked In Escape RoomsEscape roomIRLAsylum at Locked In Escape Rooms in Coeur d’Alene was the final room we did on our escape room road trip from Calgary, Alberta. This is a 75-minute room, and at least at the beginning, it was one of the spookiest escape rooms we’ve ever done. Our 12-year-old lasted about five minutes before deciding that this particular adventure was absolutely not happening and noping right out. A huge thank you to Oliver, who was fantastic about it. He made them feel completely welcome and spent some time sharing behind-the-scenes tidbits while my husband and I continued working our way through the Asylum. Once we got further into the room, the intensity mellowed out somewhat. The puzzles were excellent. There were several unique puzzles we hadn’t encountered in other escape rooms, and I especially loved how the set decoration itself became part of the game. The room really makes good use of the props. There is a physical element to this room, but they were able to work around it for us (I had recently popped a rib and my mobility was limited), so don’t automatically rule this room out if that applies to you. It’s worth talking to the staff about your needs. Overall, this was a really memorable room. Great atmosphere, creative puzzles, fantastic use of the environment, and wonderful staff. Highly recommended, especially if you’re looking for something on the spooky side.
Space Mission: GuardianThink Tank Escape RoomsEscape roomIRLWe’re on an escape room road trip from Calgary, Alberta, and Space Mission: Guardian at Think Tank Escape Rooms in Spokane made my nerd heart happier than it has been in ages. I’m a huge Star Trek fan, so this room was basically designed to make me happy. I would legitimately pay good money to be able to replay even the first ten minutes of this room on a loop. I could do that over and over again and never get tired of it. If you’re a fellow space nerd, you’re going to understand exactly what I mean. But even beyond that, this room is great. Like Think Tank’s other rooms, the attention to detail is exceptional. The story and gameplay are solid and the props are used to make the experience even better. The environment does a fantastic job of making you feel like you’re actually part of the story. The gameplay and story are strong enough to make this a great escape room even if science fiction isn’t normally your thing. This was one of the highlights of an already fantastic escape room road trip, and Think Tank has officially set the bar ridiculously high for whatever rooms we do next.
Prison Break: Warden Strikes Back!Escape - DivisionEscape roomIRLOur second room at Escape: Division in Spokane was Prison Break: Warden Strikes Back. This was a really enjoyable room and a great addition to our escape room road trip from Calgary, Alberta. Right from the beginning, you’re separated, so this is a room where communication and teamwork are especially important. If your group works well together, that can be fun. If everyone tends to do their own thing, it can really block your progress. There’s more technology in this room than in The Haunting of Room 13, although it’s still not what I would consider a high-tech escape room. What it does have is a good variety of puzzles, which kept things interesting. We needed several hints, and we came very close to running out of time. It was a good room!
Ark RaiderLocked In Escape RoomsEscape roomIRLThis room was on the must-do list for my husband for our Escape Room road trip. They were able to squeeze us in immediately after we did another room, which we appreciated (with a multi-room discount!). Very friendly GM/staff. The set was well done and very immersive. One element in particular was really cool and fun to experience. We did enjoy that the rooms let you know with an audible signal when you’ve solved something. I would say that in this room there were a couple of puzzles that we weren’t actually sure how we solved them or if the result was just delayed. There was also another that was just plain frustrating and felt like a bit of a stretch to figure out. Overall a fun room though.
PIrate's PlunderLocked In Escape RoomsEscape roomIRLWe’re escape room road-tripping from Calgary, Alberta, and Pirate’s Plunder at Locked In Escape Rooms in Coeur d’Alene was one of the stops we were really glad we made. We missed something obvious right at the beginning, but thankfully we redeemed ourselves later by finishing well under time. The biggest thing for me was the set design. The decor and finishing throughout the room were fantastic and really helped make the experience immersive. The puzzles themselves were fun and different, and once we got past our little “how did we not see that?” moment at the beginning, we got into a groove. Definitely a room we’d recommend if you’re in the Coeur d’Alene area and looking for a fun escape room.
ApothecaryThink Tank Escape RoomsEscape roomIRLI honestly don’t know how to write this review without sounding completely ridiculous, because Apothecary at Think Tank Escape Rooms is hands down, no questions asked, the most incredible escape room we have ever done (and we’ve done a decent amount). We (Mom, Dad and 12-year-old) are on an escape room road trip from Calgary, Alberta, and this room alone would have made the trip worthwhile. We were incredibly lucky to be among the first groups to experience Apothecary. It had only been open for a few days when we played it, and you could tell that an enormous amount of planning, expertise, and care had gone into creating it. The immersion is absolute. The flow of the room is fantastic. The technology is top notch. The puzzles fit beautifully into the environment and story. And the finishing touches are just *chef’s kiss.* Afterward, we had the chance to chat with Jeff, the owner, for a bit. Hearing even a little about the thought and work that went into creating the room made us appreciate the experience even more. There is clearly a tremendous amount of expertise and, more importantly, heart behind this room. If you only ever do one escape room, do this one. Seriously. Apothecary is the new benchmark against which I’m going to be judging every escape room we do from now on.
Mayan DoomsdayThink Tank Escape RoomsEscape roomIRLMayan Doomsday was our first room at Think Tank Escape Rooms in Spokane, and what a way to start. We’re doing an escape room road trip from Calgary, Alberta, and Think Tank as a whole was the highlight of the trip. The story was immersive, and the set was beautifully done. You really feel like you’re stepping into a different world. The puzzles worked really well with the story and environment, and the whole experience felt well put together. The staff were also fantastic. As we discovered after doing the other Think Tank rooms on this trip, they somehow manage to get even better from here. Mayan Doomsday was an excellent introduction to Think Tank and definitely made us excited to see what else they had to offer.
The Haunting of Room 13Escape - DivisionEscape roomIRLWe’re on an escape room road trip from Calgary, Alberta, and The Haunting of Room 13 at Escape: Division in Spokane was one of our stops. This was a fun spooky room, although I wouldn’t describe it as particularly scary. It’s more spooky than frightening, which worked well for our group. I also really appreciated that they can customize the scare factor if someone in your team isn’t comfortable with being scared (our 12 year old requested no jump scares). The room is very mechanical and relies more on traditional escape room mechanisms than newer technology. The room itself is showing some age and is a little worn compared with some of the newer rooms we’ve done, but the story was good and the gameplay was enjoyable. They also do a fun job of getting into character and setting the scene before bringing you into the room, which helped set the atmosphere. Overall, this was a fun, spooky escape room with a good story and some classic escape room mechanics.
Cooper CabinEscape The FallsEscape roomIRLThe Cooper’s Cabin room was the first room we’ve ever done outside of Canada. It was the first stop on our first Escape Room road trip. The staff were very nice. This room, located in the basement, was fun to do. It did a good job of integrating the DB Cooper theme. The puzzles were fun and interesting and there were a variety of types, including some new kinds we haven’t seen before. It was an enjoyable room.
Deception DepotEscape The FallsEscape roomIRLThis was the second room we did at this location on our first Escape Room Road Trip from Alberta. While we enjoyed the first room at Escape the Falls, we did not enjoy this one as much. The room did have a neat back story as well as some cool and different puzzles. The problem was mainly just the sheer quantity of challenges in the room. A few also seemed like they were a bit of a stretch in terms of determining the answers. We had to get several hints, and out of 34 rooms we’ve done was the first we’ve ever failed to finish. We asked the GM and he said the room has about a 5% completion rate. At one point a significant puzzle in the room opened on its own, and we thought we had triggered it. We retrieved items from that space and were working through them when the GM came in and re-closed it. I think he thought we had somehow circumvented the flow of the room, but I suspect there’s some kind of crossover in wires somewhere. It’s a 60 minute room, but even if you had 80 minutes I would still call it an Expert room. We did the room with three people, and I think a few more might have helped a bit as well.
Even Weirder ThingsEscape From L.A.Escape roomIRLThis Stranger Things themed room was a lot of fun. It was great to see how of the show’s theming was woven into the room decor. We’ve done quite a few escape rooms and this one had new and different kinds of puzzles that we hadn’t encountered before. There were some challenges, but we emerged victorious we would highly recommend this room, especially if you’re a fan of the show. Note: the door didn’t open at the end (the final puzzle malfunctioned). We eventually asked for a clue, but it turned out we had actually finished the room about five minutes before haha.
Nightmare HotelGame Over Escape Rooms - Calgary South EastEscape roomIRLThe production values at this new Game Over location are absolutely incredible. This was our second visit here and we were excited to experience another new room. It was a bit of a stretch to convince our 12 year old to join us for a “scary” room, but they did and they did end up enjoying it. It really does come through on the scare factor while also telling a fun story and incorporating lots of unique and new puzzles. We really enjoyed it and look forward to trying another room here in the future. As always the GM was awesome as well.
The Dangerous Dilemma of Daphne Dixon, PI [Intermediate Version] - CLOSEDRetro Oasis Escape Rooms and ArcadeEscape roomIRLThis was a fun lock-filled room from the lovely Retro Oasis. We really enjoyed exploring the world of Daphne Dixon on our quest to find the missing thing she was looking for. We were fortunate to squeeze in right at the end of the run for this room, and we were the very last people to play it. We can’t wait to see what Retro Oasis comes up with next!
Vlad DraculaLock Down Escape Rooms Red DeerEscape roomIRLWe decided to make a bit of a day trip out to Red Deer from Calgary to find some new escape room experiences. I think Lock Down is the only escape room in Red Deer, so it’s great that it was such a positive experience. Our GMs were incredibly friendly and helpful throughout. We loved that they dress in costumes to match the room that you’re in. This room, Vlad Dracula, was a lot of fun. The puzzles were unique and interesting and most of them were kinds we hadn’t come across before. The room decor and the puzzles both did a great job of keeping you in the story. We can’t wait to do more rooms on our next trip up to Red Deer!
Longhouse of the AncientsLock Down Escape Rooms Red DeerEscape roomIRLThis was the second room we did in one day at Lock Down. Having driven from Calgary, we were excited to try out a couple of new-to-us rooms. This is a very new room for Lock Down too - it still has that new paint smell :) We did end up needing a couple of hints, but the staff were very friendly. The decor was great and very in theme, which is always fun. The puzzles were unique and creative and we enjoyed working together to complete them. We love that the staff were in costume. Note: We called for a hint with 2-3 minutes left because we just honestly couldn’t figure out what to do next. It turned out we had solved room ten minutes earlier, but the door hadn’t popped open haha.
One Thousand & One NightsGame Over Escape Rooms - Calgary South EastEscape roomIRLThis was our first visit to the newly opened South location for Game Over. It’s shiny and new and the first room we tried was just beautiful. The decor in the room was incredibly detailed and there was so much to look at and admire. The puzzles were fun and interesting - there are a couple in particular that have elements we’ve never experienced before. Our GM was delightful and so helpful. We really enjoyed this room and this new location and can’t wait to come back.
