MutinyEscape City - CalgaryEscape roomIRLThis was our first time at Escape City, and we will definitely be back. The room was wonderfully decorated in the theme of the room, with great use of tech and decor. The story was easy to immerse yourself in and stay immersed in, thanks to the props and the way the story progressed. The puzzles were logical and appropriately challenging for the level of difficulty of the room. We could hear a phone ringing in our room almost the whole time coming from another themed room, which was kind annoying, but eventually we tuned it out. Would definitely recommend.
The Professor's Curious ContraptionRetro Oasis Escape Rooms and ArcadeEscape roomIRLThis was our first time exploring outside of Calgary for a locked room. Retro Oasis is a charming little space full of locked rooms and arcade machines. We found the Professor’s Curious Contraption to be a fun, linear room with an abundance of mechanical locks, a neat story and some fun tech that really added to the storyline. We did need a couple of hints, and the GM was very helpful. There was a lot of ambient noise from the arcade which did pull us out of the immersion a bit. We can’t wait to come back and do more rooms.
Vlad DraculaLock Down Escape Rooms Red DeerEscape roomIRLWe decided to make a bit of a day trip out to Red Deer from Calgary to find some new escape room experiences. I think Lock Down is the only escape room in Red Deer, so it’s great that it was such a positive experience. Our GMs were incredibly friendly and helpful throughout. We loved that they dress in costumes to match the room that you’re in. This room, Vlad Dracula, was a lot of fun. The puzzles were unique and interesting and most of them were kinds we hadn’t come across before. The room decor and the puzzles both did a great job of keeping you in the story. We can’t wait to do more rooms on our next trip up to Red Deer!
Longhouse of the AncientsLock Down Escape Rooms Red DeerEscape roomIRLThis was the second room we did in one day at Lock Down. Having driven from Calgary, we were excited to try out a couple of new-to-us rooms. This is a very new room for Lock Down too - it still has that new paint smell :) We did end up needing a couple of hints, but the staff were very friendly. The decor was great and very in theme, which is always fun. The puzzles were unique and creative and we enjoyed working together to complete them. We love that the staff were in costume. Note: We called for a hint with 2-3 minutes left because we just honestly couldn’t figure out what to do next. It turned out we had solved room ten minutes earlier, but the door hadn’t popped open haha.
One Thousand & One NightsGame Over Escape Rooms - Calgary South EastEscape roomIRLThis was our first visit to the newly opened South location for Game Over. It’s shiny and new and the first room we tried was just beautiful. The decor in the room was incredibly detailed and there was so much to look at and admire. The puzzles were fun and interesting - there are a couple in particular that have elements we’ve never experienced before. Our GM was delightful and so helpful. We really enjoyed this room and this new location and can’t wait to come back.
The Dangerous Dilemma of Daphne Dixon, PIRetro Oasis Escape Rooms and ArcadeEscape roomIRLThis was a fun lock-filled room from the lovely Retro Oasis. We really enjoyed exploring the world of Daphne Dixon on our quest to find the missing thing she was looking for. We were fortunate to squeeze in right at the end of the run for this room, and we were the very last people to play it. We can’t wait to see what Retro Oasis comes up with next!
