Chapter 3: The MorgueOff The Couch GamesEscape roomIRLMy favorite of the three OTC rooms, probably because it really just runs with the theme in all it's strange, campy glory. I didn't realize this was going to be a scary room going into it (although obviously the name is a bit of a clue), which is probably for the best. I had a very good time (except for one sequence, this room is far less scary then, say, Cornstalkers) and our NPC made things very fun. I really loved the bonus challenges and I kind of wished we had ordered some snacks, just to see how that worked. What a fun experience (special thanks to our GM, who was fantastic - we loved the tour of everything afterwards)!
Chapter 2: Norcross Art GalleryOff The Couch GamesEscape roomIRLI think the drawing made my week :) I really loved the digital portion of this room even as I'm not entirely certain I followed the plot. Super high quality room, with some great puzzles. I personally didn't love the very end twist, but we had a great time escaping! We played this room back to back with the Morgue and the transition straight into the second room was delightful! I do have to say that the little flourishes that OTC adds to the experience definitely add to the fun.
Cornstalkers: Lost in the MaizeThe Escape Ventures - Orlando Waterford LakesEscape roomIRLWhat a fun (scary) room! Excellent puzzles, a really fantastic actor interactions. We did this as a team of four, which seemed to be a good number for the space. Having dedicated safe and not safe spaces really helped enjoyment of the room. Our host, Ashley, killed it from the get go. She let us do a room debrief after the experience and I was super impressed with how much she has to juggle on her to own to make the experience work.
Moonstone ApothecaryThe Grape EscapeEscape roomIRLI am such a big fan of Grape Escape's other games and sadly, this one was my least favorite of their rooms. Set is bare and the plot a bit underbaked (the witch is evil? but also seems quite friendly?) There seems to be a lot in the room that is distracting and a puzzle that is fiddly in the second room.
L'entrepôt Fantastique [The Fantastic Warehouse]Pandore & AssociésEscape roomIRLL’Entrepôt Fantastique is hands down my favorite escape room in Paris. Everything about it works - the interactions, the technology, the setting, the plot, the puzzles. The whole experience runs at top speed and is a joy from start to finish.
Règlement de Contes [Fairy Tale Regulations]Pandore & AssociésEscape roomIRLI did this room as part of the new Duo package with L’Entrepôt Fantastique, but honestly, it didn't feel particularly strongly connected. The room is fun and certainly starts out very very strong, but lags a bit in the middle. I did it with two people, which was very challenging. I think at least 3 is best. A very clever and novel theme and each of the set pieces has something about it that is very lovely.
Le Taxidermiste [The Taxidermist]Deep InsideEscape roomIRLIncredible immersion and interactive narrative - the set and the effects on the room are incredible. I really like that Deep Inside aimed for something incredibly ambitious and very different from other experiences. This is an escape room that is a bit light on puzzles, but not light on experiences - and it probably helps coming in and knowing that. Slight interlude in the middle that I enjoyed, but am not sure how it fit into the narrative?
Scooby-Doo™ and the Spooky Castle AdventureEscapology - StonestownEscape roomIRLNot bad for a chain escape room! Really nice set design and aside from one pretty rough puzzle in the middle, everything else was really fun.
Haunting at Haruka HighOmescape - SunnyvaleEscape roomIRLA very elaborately done room with some good scares. This room is somewhat tame by European standards, but on the scarier side for the US. Set design is fantastic and the various props and puzzles were very very well done. At some points, it felt like I was in a Japanese schoolgirl horror fever dream and I suspect that was basically the point. Easily the best horror game in the Bay Area, which sounds like faint praise because there really aren't that many, but this one is top notch!
cQ OrigenesclueQuestEscape roomIRLFirst of all, I love this theme - it's the cutest and very well-expressed through the set. This room has the best set of all the rooms at clueQuest. Lots of very fun cooperative experiences and puzzles. My one beef is that the digital puzzle is a little fiddly in terms of the controls, but other than I highly recommend this room.
The Million Pound Heist - CLOSEDEnigma Quests - ShoreditchEscape roomIRLI liked the concept of maximizing your take rather than purely going for time, although at some point, we just decided we were done. It's a nice change from normal escape room logic/goals. The room is getting on in years, but there are some nice puzzles there. I think the last room probably needs some refurbishment in terms of the materials (first part is fine). Fun, but it didn't knock my socks off.
The Battle for BritainEscape PlanEscape roomIRLBattle for Britain is my favorite escape room in London and I like it so much, I've actually done it twice, albeit over six years apart (once at the old location and once with an escape-room loving friend in the current location). None of the puzzles use technology that wasn't available during the time period the room is set in. The puzzles are lovely, very well done and the fact that you are trying to stop as many aerial attacks as possible (as opposed to linearly advancing through a room) gives the room a very different feel.
Pushed for TimeEscape PlanEscape roomIRLThis room is very high production value and the story is really lovely. However, the showcase set pieces almost lead to you to wish for a bit more. As with all of the escape plan rooms, the puzzles are quite lovely - I think this room would be quite eye opening for the crowd that is a little newer to escape rooms. For the experienced crowd, it's good room, but feels a bit lightweight when all is said and done.
Roll Out the BarrelEscape PlanEscape roomIRLThis room is charmingly lowtech, but any escape room themed after breaking into the officer's club to steal beer is a winner in my book. Lots of creative puzzles, all mechanical, in a slightly cramped space. Note that if you did Battle for Britain in EscapePlan's previous locale, some of the puzzles from that room have a new room in Roll Out the Barrel, but there are lots of new challenges as well.
The Adventure BeginsEscape PlanEscape roomIRLA solid escape room experience. I wouldn't say it would knock your socks off, but everything is very well done: the set is fun to interact with, the theming is quite strong and all the puzzles are good. My host was additionally fluent in German, which really added to atmosphere of having guards constantly trying to catch you in the act of escaping. 🤣
Operation BlacksheepclueQuestEscape roomIRLA nice variety of puzzles, but just not quite as sophisticated on all levels than the other rooms at clueQuest. The room is more linear than the others as well, so you can get bottlenecked. Still a wonderful theme and a very fun room.
Revenge of the SheepclueQuestEscape roomIRLVery fun! The clueQuest daffy sense of humor is front and center in this room, which is packed with challenges. The whole experience doesn't quite come together as elegantly as it does in origenes, but there's heaps to do. The digital experiences can be a little fiddly.
Thirteen RoomsNomis Piy Escape - OnlineEscape roomOther Nomis piy makes the best escape books around, hands down. Thirteen rooms is my favorite so far - very elegantly constructed puzzles. My only minor complaint is the eye strain from examining some of the graphics in detail. ;)
Ghost PatrolTrivium GamesEscape roomIRLPractically perfect. Immersive, humorous and incredibly creative. Playing Ghost Patrol feels like you've stumbled into a lesser known room the Disneyland's Haunted Mansion.
