Treasure Island
Brain Games Escape Room
Escape room
IRL
Treasure Island is a fantastic room, with great set design, some interesting games/puzzles, and plenty of Disneyland nods for fans. The room is so immersive that you can get a (non-alcoholic) drink as part of the play! Fantastic game master during the whole game.
The Nest [Immersive Theatre]
Hatch Escapes
Escape room
Other
The Nest is not an escape room, but rather an interactive immersive theater piece - scratch that, not even theater, more interactive, immersive story telling. There are no actors, and there aren’t a whole lot of puzzles to solve. There’s no time pressure, but it won’t take too long anyway. Instead of a thrilling adventure, you leave thinking about your life and those around you, a profoundly different experience than an escape room, and even different than theater, because unlike immersive theater where you’re still ostensibly an observer, just inside the fourth wall, at The Nest, you are very much a part of the story. The fact that this story takes place in a storage unit, that is housed in an actual old storage facility, makes it that much more amazing. There is heart and soul to this experience, and one that all should do.

The Curse Of The Black Knight
EscapeX Rooms - Irvine
Escape room
IRL
Wonderfully themed, full of some unique processes. The room is stated as being linear, and it is, but the puzzles didn’t necessarily directly flow one into the next each time. But overall a more unique experience with high production value.
The Mad Scientist [prev. The Laboratory]
Brain Games Escape Room
Escape room
IRL
The Mad Scientist is a delightfully mechanical room, with relatively few high tech effects. Overall the game has multiple parallel linear puzzles tracks, which all must be solved to get to the final puzzles. The number of tracks set up by default depends on the number of players, but since the game doesn’t require a ton of intricate set up, the game master was actually able to provide new tracks for us to do when it was clear we were moving ahead of expected pace. Our game master kept a good eye on things and only stepped in when things went really awry for us.
Cabin 13
Back In Time Escape Rooms - Del Amo Mall
Escape room
IRL
Like most of Back in Time’s offerings, this room is pretty mechanical in design, with greater use of traditional locks and keys rather than sensored releases. The story line progresses nicely, as you realize what it is that’s causing issues in Cabin 13. The puzzles themselves were relatively straightforward, with a few minor twists that were pretty easy to resolve. The room itself is pretty small, so there’s not a lot of running around and as puzzles are completed, putting one time use items aside to avoid clutter can be tough.
Revolution
No. 1 Escapes
Escape room
IRL
Overall a relatively first-gen type escape room. The story line existed but it was on the weak side without much to tie your activities to what the overarching story is. A few red herrings but nothing that sent us too far off. A good room for parties that are maybe new or newer to escape rooms. The set was nicely thematic.
