The Starlight MotelEscape Artist Greenville - DowntownEscape roomIRLWe couldn’t end our time in Greenville without doing this room. Several reviews described this room as immersive theatre where you engage/improv with an actor the whole time. I wouldn’t say that’s accurate. You definitely have your space to gain ground in the puzzles where you are left alone. And I was satisfied with the volume/quality of puzzles, at that. Still, being a horror room…with the expected jump scares, it kept us on edge but as with dark lullaby it wasn’t that bad on that aspect either. Needless to say, should you be able to stomach the tense atmosphere, a must play at this location.
Dark LullabyEscape Artist Greenville - Hampton StationEscape roomIRLMy wife and I got a chance to do the now #22 rated Chimera corp saga. It did not disappoint. —— Dark Lullaby was probably my least favorite due to the fact that I tense up when playing horror themed rooms. But when I say “least favorite” it does not in anyway connote that the room was subpar. Still a superior room and a worthy segment of the Chimera saga. For me it’s just the fear of jump scares that gets me. It’s not the actually characters that scare me, but the anxiety of the possible jump scare that distracts me ultimately from enjoying the rooms and puzzles. So this is a bit of a biased review. That aside, if you like scary rooms you would absolutely love this one. Despite the scare factors, I found it had solid puzzle work in addition to the immersive story telling experience. And honestly the horror wasn’t too bad. We’ve seen worse. ——- I advocate for people to do the whole trilogy. Speaking with the staff afterwards, there’s a bunch of sequences and story added between the rooms that really enrichen the experience in the trilogy play…and makes just doing the rooms as solo plays, fairly lame.
The StorykeeperLocurioEscape roomIRLOne of my all-time favorite rooms. Live actors done well in an escape room setting is peak ER experience IMO and this one is no exception. Perhaps this being my first live actors ER made it that much more impressionable. Lots of puzzles, twists in the story. Thrills and surprises. Really loved this one and even gifted it to a friend who was getting married (we were in town for a wedding). Can’t recommend it enough!
The Wonderful Wizard of Oz13th Hour Escape Room - WhartonEscape roomIRLThis room came very much hyped up. Did it meet the hype? I’ve certainly experienced things in this game I’ve never experienced before and so in regards to immersion, yes- very well done, creative, and to me it’s exceeded the hype in that regard. Where it fell slightly short for me however was that the game was fairly quick (at least it seemed that way) and the puzzles were pretty straightforward and on the easier side. This would be a great room for beginners and for converting people to become ER enthusiasts. Not the most challenging room for experienced ER artists. Regardless, a very endearing and feel good room. The best of all the rooms here? It’s definitely up there. For me Campground is still the room, and I still rate the Grand Parlor higher than this, but I’m comfortable putting this at a strong #3.
Castle FlüffendorEscape Artist Greenville - Hampton StationEscape roomIRLMy wife and I got a chance to do the now #22 rated Chimera corp saga. It did not disappoint. —— Castle Fluffendor may be my favorite out of the three. World class tech, story telling, live actor interaction, overall a very enchanting and endearing room. Playing this room made me wonder, this is what it must feel like in some small measure to be at the Escaparium in Laval, Montreal. I have not been there yet, but I imagined it must be at least this good, which is indeed high praise. Incredible experience, and needless to say fully recommend. _____ I advocate for people to do the whole trilogy. Speaking with the staff afterwards, there’s a bunch of sequences and story added between the rooms that really enrichen the experience in the trilogy play…and makes just doing the rooms as solo plays, fairly lame.
Help WantedEscape Artist Greenville - Hampton StationEscape roomIRLMy wife and I got a chance to do the now #22 rated Chimera corp saga. It did not disappoint. —— If Castle Fluffendor provided the whimsical magical experience where you float along in the story and Dark Lullabye provided the horror experience, Help Wanted brings you back to nice, ingenious gritty puzzles that keep you busy on your feet working things out. And it’s done in a way where they marvelously incorporate nice tech to tell the story with actually quite a bit of actor interaction. This room really is the whole package. Puzzles to figure out. People to interact with. All leading to an immersive and satisfying conclusion to the Chimera corp saga. _________ I advocate for people to do the whole trilogy. Speaking with the staff afterwards, there’s a bunch of sequences and story added between the rooms that really enrichen the experience in the trilogy play…and makes just doing the rooms as solo plays, fairly lame.
The Campground13th Hour Escape Room - WhartonEscape roomIRLProbably my most favorite escape room ever. Absolutely world class. Production design and immersion incredible. Not for the faint of heart however, there are tons and TONS of puzzles. Went with a group of 4 and we were running around and finished the game a little before 2 hours. Our game guide was gracious and gave us extra time since we were the last game of the night. But incredible game and probably the most satisfying ending I’ve encountered in a game so far. 13th hour continues to show why they are the class of the metro area!
Curse of the Hidden TemplePuzzleConnect Escape RoomsEscape roomIRLMy favorite of the three rooms! Every room they have at PuzzleConnect is quality but the story, gameplay, and the production behind Hidden Temple is tops. Really enjoyable experience. In addition Frank and Christina are amazing owners and people and welcomed both me and my wife with open arms. Customer care and connection is a huge value for Puzzle Connect and it shows. Fully recommend this place. My wife and I drove nearly an hour to spend the day here and we loved every moment of it!
The BirdMyssTic RoomsEscape roomIRLMy favorite room here at Mysstic rooms and perhaps one of my top 10 all time. Read the other reviews, it truly lives up to the hype. For starters it delivers in that it is very creative, beautifully designed, and has an intuitive puzzle flow- as many others mention, even in such a tight space. But it also has that element which separates the good rooms from the great ones; it touches your heart and somehow through the process you find yourself enjoying an experience that transcends the genre. Needless to say, this is a must play…and I’ll even go so far to say that perhaps this is the best small business produced escape room in the 5 boroughs of NYC. Our group of 5 finished the room with no hints in about 51 mins, puzzles moderate difficulty.
Yuletide MagicEscape Artist Greenville - DowntownEscape roomIRLJane and I have done only one other Christmas themed room (which was a very well done room) but this one takes the cake. Clever, fun puzzles. Terrific story telling. Imaginative usage of props, technology and music to create a rich and festive Christmas atmosphere. Logical flow. Also all the rooms at this venue involve live interaction with actors and this one was no exception. But the way it was done was particularly satisfying, and I say so having done many rooms with live actors. The staff were incredible. Even as one of their less popular rooms, this room hits a high benchmark that underscores Escape artists Greenville as one of the best venues in the country. Fully recommend this room. Room finish: No hints, 55 mins.
