Quest For The Temple of LightThe Keepers of BalanceEscape roomIRLWow. We had wanted to come out here since KOB opened, and this room did not disappoint. Not knowing exactly what to expect, we were whisked away into an adventure that was unique, hectic, satisfying, and just enjoyable. It's hard to describe what this room excels at individually, because it's the combo of everything being so darn good that makes the room so satisfying to make through. While the puzzles aren't the most difficult we've done in a room, they flow, are themed, and are satisfying to figure out. The live actors only add to the experience, making you feel immersed in the story instead of being thrust into a room. I appreciate the dynamism of where this can take the stories they tell, as well as opening the game up to more people through gentle-assists that feel much more reasonable than waving at a camera that happens to be in an ancient tomb. I had really high expectations following along on Instagram, and this room truly blew us away. Huge shoutout to Josh for what he's created here, and the rest of the KOB team.

Masters of MagicGatlin's Escape Games - Pigeon ForgeEscape roomIRLWhat a cool room that really shines in its transitions and “illusions”, so it’s tough to find a better theming for the magic they did on the backend to make all this work. All that said, nothing was too difficult, one puzzle that felt it needed a bit more information to do correctly was done on accident, but otherwise the pieces you needed were all very apparent and obvious that it would have been very difficult not to make the immediate connections even without playing countless other rooms. At the end of the day it’s worth doing so long as you aren’t expecting a “hard” room. There are just some things this room does better than any other we’ve done. Give it a shot!
Hidden Needle Tattoo ParlorThe Exit Games - Princess St.Escape roomIRL9.5/10 Holy moly, what a room. It's so hard to recommend a room at The Exit Games that isn't Front Street Bank Heist, but this one is RIGHT there. Both are some of the best experiences I have had at a room. The theming is fantastic, the unique puzzles, the new takes on old puzzles... it all works just SO WELL. All we could do after, and each time we do a new room, is talk about how good this room is. Seriously, make it your next stop.
The CryptEscape Hour AustinEscape roomIRL10/10 The Crypt blew me away. It is without a doubt the best room I have done (38 rooms). Scouring Reddit for "Best Escape Rooms in 'X City' " when visiting new places is my golden ticket to the best spots. Lately it has become overwhelming to try and do the research myself, as there are SO MANY places popping up with varying levels of effort, ingenuity, and well-crafted rooms. The Crypt was highly recommended and Escape Hour Austin equally so. I'm not usually one for creepy themes, but my partner has always mentioned how doing a few creepy ones every once in a while would be fun (she is a horror movie fan, I am absolutely not). This one seemed interesting enough as a theme that I figured it may be more Indiana Jones than just straight creepy. Happily, I was right, though it had some very "unsettling" moments for sure. To start, there was a LOT to do in this room. When we finished at 1:09:22 I figured we had failed, but in fact this room has a 1:10:00 time limit. Puzzles had a HUGE variety, some physical (crawling, climbing) some interface interaction, some unique puzzles and "hidden-in-plain-sight" puzzles/answers that were hidden well enough that it took us a bit to figure out, a compliment to the theming here. This room is HARD both in time management and in puzzle difficulty in places, you'll really be stretched thin at 2 people. Only 1 puzzle really gave us a hard time in terms of not adequately hinting at/explaining necessarily the pieces required out of a collection of options, given we were struggling we were given a hint/nudge here, and without it I'm sure we would have kept spinning our wheels. The puzzle itself was fine, but think it could have been more clear in the wording. Speaking of the hint system, this was definitely one of the best implementations. I won't spoil what it entails, but it is certainly worth doing this room just for the unique experience it gave us in this aspect, let alone the rest of the amazing experience. We did the room with 2 people, however it would certainly help to have at least 1-2 more. 6 or more I think would feel crowded, there are a lot of small spaces and the there is a general sense of linearity here. Most if not all puzzles felt very well themed and cohesive, only one really comes to mind that may not have been, but can be waved away relatively easily. Highly highly recommend you do this room, I'll be thinking about it for a long time!
The Isle of WonderThe Greatest EscapeEscape roomIRLReally cute albeit pretty simple, well-themed room here. Some interesting puzzles and high-interactivity with atypical puzzles as well. Lot of picture deciphering and logic puzzles as well. Most everything themed really well, with "trials" allowing for the puzzle solving to fit in with the narrative and environment. Everything flows quite well, there wasn't any moment where I wasn't sure what to do next, and I really enjoyed all of the non-typical puzzles. Could maybe have used another couple puzzles, the last room was a bit underwhelming.
White Rabbit SocietyThe Exit Games - Front St.Escape roomIRL8/10 Another great room from TEG, albeit decidedly in 3rd place of the ones I've done there. I felt some of the clues and puzzles were just a bit too obvious within the room, or a bit tedious to complete. The theming overall was fantastic and the story worked well for the theme and there were several unique puzzles I hadn't seen before and really enjoyed. Overall you cannot go wrong with any room at this location, so definitely pick the theme you like the best!
Defenders of the Sunken RealmThe Keepers of BalanceEscape roomIRLAnother great room from Keepers of Balance with some unique puzzles, and another just incredibly constructed environment. Absolutely loved the dynamic "voice" in the room, and aside from some brief temperature issues and associated nausea in the first section, we really had a great time in this room. It felt a bit shorter than Temple of Light, but the variance on puzzles was really great. Set design is again just absolutely incredible, and this is truly half the battle. We loved exploring the rooms and making sense of what we had in front of us.
Hangover at Riddler State [prev. Riddler State University]The Exit Games - Princess St.Escape roomIRLExit Games knocks it out of the park again. The Princess Street location rooms are just on a whole different level, which is incredible given even their original location on Front had some great rooms as well. One thing that really sets Exit Games above others is what I'd call "commitment to the bit", the buy-in from the GM, the intro, and the set-up are all incredibly well done. This whole thing doesn't work if you are just thrust into a room with a video on a TV screen. But lets also talk about the theming; this room and Hidden Needle Tattoo Parlor are some of the best cohesively themed rooms I've ever done. Nothing pops out at you off the bat because everything MAKES SENSE to be there. Puzzles are crafted from things that are naturally found in the room, what is a common pitfall for mid-tier rooms I do is that puzzles are forced into the setting and thus stick out like a sore thumb and often don't even make sense thematically, this is NOT the case here. Do yourself a favor and play this and Hidden Needle, and rest easy that until Exit Games puts out a new room, you've played some of the best in the country.
Montauk ProjectMyssTic RoomsEscape roomIRL10/10 I feel a little silly for not knowing what the 'Montauk Project' is/was, all I know was that Reddit said it was a must-go Escape Room while in Brooklyn, so we went! Boy was I in for a surprise. This room was themed so fantastically, every single room including the starting "outdoor" area was just phenomenal. All the puzzles were themed and nothing felt out of place or obvious particularly. It was a little creepy and spooky, but it absolutely floored us with its ingenuity. None of the puzzles felt unfair, and when they seemed difficult it was because we overlooked something on the way. If you are anywhere near this room on a trip or otherwise, make a stop. You will not regret it!
