MagnificoEscaparium - LavalEscape roomIRLHearing that Magnífico was rated #1 escape room in the world, I'll be honest: we went into this with some skepticism. However, it lived up to the reputation. What a high water mark in escape rooms. Jam packed with imagination, wow moments, surprising scale, and stellar performances, Magnífico really was "the greatest show there is."
Ghost PatrolTrivium GamesEscape roomIRLWow. Simply one of the best. This is what all escapes rooms should strive for. Completely immersive space and story, elegant puzzle flow, delightful surprises along the way, it doesn't leave anything on the table. My only word of warning: this room is HARD. very difficult puzzles. But nothing some clever hinting can't get you through. A world class escape room. Don't miss it.
The Man From BeyondStrange Bird ImmersiveEscape roomIRLPeople say it’s one of the best for a reason, and they’re right. The Man Beyond is a demonstration of where escape rooms can (and should?) be going.
40 ThievesMindTrap Escape Room - TemeculaEscape roomIRLBelieve the hype. 40 Thieves is the real deal. Truly one of the best escape rooms in Southern California. The scenic design, the story “cinematics,” the flow, the fun, this is the stuff that will continue to propel the escape room industry as a whole. What an exciting adventure.
Ctrl Alt RebootEscaparium - LavalEscape roomIRLMind blowing production. However, not my preferred play style. It felt very much like a series of small vignettes in which you are ushered between by characters, not an open escape room where you solve and explore at your own pace. That's not necessarily bad, just not the type of game I prefer. The biggest negative: there is a character giving crucial instructions and story through much of the experience. It was extremely difficult for our group to understand this character most of the time. Not because of the actor, but because of the speaker/filter they were speaking through. It affected the voice too much and really made the experience frustrating at times. That said, the production design, imagination, and tech in this room are truly world class.
Armoire à Vendre [Wardrobe for Sale]Escaparium - LavalEscape roomIRLWhat a delight! Whimsical fantasy design, charming puppet characters, and many many puzzles made this a wonderful escape room. There were many pleasant and charming moments. This game, while full of storytelling, is a little more like a traditional escape room than some of Escapariums more bombastic offerings. That said, Wardrobe proves that this company excels even in the simple things, with delightful puzzle design, significant challenge, and in depth storytelling. Sad note: one major mechanic in the middle of the experience broke for us. The staff handled it well.
Captain Spoopy Bones and the Magnificent Quest For Some Other Pirate's Treasure!Doldrick's Escape RoomEscape roomIRLAmazing room. Super funny and packed with clever puzzles. Almost perfect! Just a couple puzzle flow sticky points But just a minor minor thing. The promo images don’t do this one Justice. Seemed like it was going to just be for kids but us 3 adults thought it was a blast and was blown away by the production design story performance. Highly recommend!
Wizard's TaleEscape Again RoomsEscape roomIRLA very charming room. Long and complex! Very puzzle heavy. Many fun moments.
Heresy: 1897Doors of DivergenceEscape roomIRLAn incredibly ambitious immersive theater-meets escape room experience. Production design is top tier, maybe the best of any ER I’ve done. The story was fascinating , inventive and involved. Maybe TOO involved. One could argue there was perhaps too much exposition and it got in the way of the gameplay at times. But I’d rather an experience er on the side of too much story rather than not enough. The puzzles were great for the most part, but I do have one complaint. There were WAY too many puzzle “instructions.” In fact, almost every puzzle had a piece of parchment that explained how the puzzle work. At least they tried to make the instructions fit with the story, but for the most part it just got in the way and slowed things down. Certainly not the type of ER where you could just follow through it, doing puzzles in an intuitive sequence. That said, it’s a small complaint in an otherwise stunning experience, with no detail too small. Truly rich and imaginative.
The Ghost Of MentryvilleArcane Escape RoomsEscape roomIRLPhenomenal experience for a somewhat dated “Generation 1” room. The integration of the live actor into the puzzle flow and story was expertly executed. I guess the main reason I’m hesitant at giving this room a full “heart” is because…. Well… i can’t shake the fact that all the puzzles and most of the actual game is a bit… oldschool. Nearly all, if not all, of the puzzles were combination or key locks. They were very, very, very COOL locks. But all mechanical locks non the less. I’m sure when this room first opened this room was mindblowing. Unfortunately, compared to some newer and more cutting edge games, Ghost just doesn’t quite cut it any more. That said, we still had a fantastic time, and they really made the most of a tiny space and straightforward components. We still recommend this as a great escape room experience and we’ll take this any day over some more copy-and-paste style generic rooms. Ghost had heart, creativity, a whole lot of spookiness, and most importantly: fun.
