The Diner

Fantastic atmosphere. Wide variety of clues and different forms of hints. Heavy on locks but the methods to finding the codes vary so it didn’t feel redundant.

The Diner: Tasked with the criminal task of robbing the local diner, we had 60 minutes to get in, get the goods, and get out fast. Pros: Our plane into San Diego was delayed by over an hour and so we rushed to Quicksand as quickly as we could, nervous that we would miss our game. Luckily for us, the gamemasters were very kind and accommodating. They were not the least bit frantic about our late start. We were escorted into the diner where we were immediately awed by the set. We felt like we were actually in a diner with all the props and puzzles set to theme. The only thing missing was a hamburger and chocolate malt. We began playing the game, despite the lack of food and our growling stomachs. After several false starts, we moved through the puzzles at a good clip. We especially enjoyed the last room where the puzzles required we increase our pace in order to get out on time. Cons: A few of the puzzles were counterintuitive and sign posts could have helped guide us to the solution without the need for help from the gamemaster. We recommend that if there are common problems that all players have, the game designers consider revising the puzzles slightly. The Diner was so much fun! We wish the other games had openings while we were there. We cannot wait to return and play the other games at Quicksand Escape Games!

I really wanted a milkshake when I entered the room. The production was simple but it worked for what they were going for. The puzzles made sense and they were quite challenging but satisfying to do. You definitely have to have good eyes for some puzzles.

Nice set (nothing elaborate but it got the job done), a fun change of set from one space to another, and some good, clever puzzles made for an enjoyable room. The staff at Quicksand is wonderful. We played their four rooms back to back and enjoyed our time.

This room was great! Towards the end the room led us to something we definitely didn’t expect and it made the experience exciting. The puzzles were fairly simple, but there were some that our group had to get help on. Overall it was so fun and I would recommend!

A lot of the locks are the same and it’s rarely clear which number goes into which lock, so you have to try the same number into multiple locks before you find the right one. The fact that it’s very unclear where to even begin means a lot of time is wasted at the beginning too. Not all of the puzzles are clear where to go after you solve it (especially the early puzzles), which also wastes time. Overall, the game and puzzles get better the further you go (I liked the last 3-4 puzzles), but the first few puzzles could use some direction. Some more variety in the puzzles would have been nice too.

The set design of this room is very impressive! It really looks like an old school diner. The details are fantastic, from the booths to the checkered floors. The flow of the puzzles in the room are well designed. Highly recommend!

An escape room you can solve without any clues. This experience was so memorable because everyone in my party added the necessary skills to allow us to solve this room without clues. I loved it.

This game was so-so. The set design was okay but things like the oven were in bad shape. The locks at Quicksand need to be replaced, as well. We did enjoy the game for the most part. Our game master, Alexis, was super friendly. She made our overall experience much better.

We completed with 2 people, but it definitely tested relationships. Lots of moving pieces and lots of locks. We found some of the items to not be fully reset and some clues were a bit vague to make the connections. We liked the theme and did have a good time. But at times it was a bit of a challenge with the ticking clock and trying to match the lock with the clue. They did have unique puzzles and we did find aspects to be creative.
