This room could have been really great! However, a few things did dampen the experience for us. The final aspect of the room requires fobs being scanned, and either one of our fobs did not work or the scanner wasn't working properly, but we spent about five minutes trying to scan the final fob and it would either not work or it would act like it was going to work and then still wouldn't release the diamond. Considering this is the culmination of everything the room has led up to, having it not work was really disappointing. Another one of the puzzles requires a prop in the room to be placed in a very specific position. We are not sure if the GM didn't place it right or if one of us might have bumped into the prop at some point, but either way it was in the wrong spot, giving us the incorrect answer to the puzzle even though we'd done it properly. If placement is that important to the puzzle being solved, there should be something to lock that prop in place so it doesn't move. Despite these issues that really put us behind and added a lot to our time, we still escaped in about 25 minutes. Personally, I believe very strongly that rooms should have adaptive difficulty so this type of thing doesn't happen. We were a group of 7, but only 2 of us have any escape room experience, so I do not think we should have escaped that early. $40 is reasonable for a near 60 minute experience, but it is unreasonable for a 20 minute experience. We had done this room for my birthday, and while I would not normally expect escape rooms to do anything special for my birthday, when escape rooms ask during booking if you're celebrating anything, to me, that implies that they are asking for a reason. My past two birthdays in a row, the room has asked that question during booking and done really sweet surprises to celebrate my birthday. Red Fox didn't do anything, which would be fine if they hadn't asked about it, but if you're not planning to do anything with that information then perhaps don't ask the question in the first place and set up false expectations. We still had a fun time, but some tech improvements and adaptive difficulty could really improve the experience.

It was seemed that our GM was rather inexperienced, which only further emphasized the tech issues because she didn't see that we'd done it correctly in a timely manner and trigger the next events to happen.

Was anything broken?

Yes

Accessibility

Crawling required for all players, color differentiation required for two puzzles

Parking

Limited

My spouse and I took the bus. Some friends did drive, one found street parking and one parked in a nearby paid garage.

Safety

Spoiler ahead: I don't think it is super appropriate to put one of the clues in the trash can. Escape rooms as an industry have to be really clear with players about what is part of the game and what is not, and normally a trash can is indeed just that, a trash can. I can imagine more inexperienced players playing this game and then going on to dig in a real trash can at another escape room company, which in my opinion is a safety concern because you never know what might be in a real trash can.

Hi Sage, i'm sorry you felt insufficiently celebrated on your birthday. We care deeply about every customer, and i'm sorry you didn't get the full birthday special. We'll make the protocol more clear for all staff! Thanks for taking the time to give feedback; we looked up your game in our log so that we could learn and improve and give feedback to staff. In case it makes you feel better, your game was actually ***39 minutes*** (20 minutes on the clock at the end was time left, not time elapsed), and you only spent 2 minutes on the final merger and 2 minutes on the sundial puzzle. We do have adaptive difficulty, but since only 2 of you had done ERs before, the GM didn't set it harder. Our 2 more recent games have adaptive difficulty that can be adjusted during the game (rather than being set in advance), as we totally agree that this is a great way to match the experience to the group size and skill level. We agree that accessibility is important and all our games can be played in a wheelchair, as long as one person in the group can reach to shoulder height. In this game only 1 person has to crawl (they can then open the door), or zero if required. Wishing you many happy returns (belatedly) and many happy escapes in your future!

i liked this room a lot! played with two relatively new gamers and my best friend (we’ve done many together). I think 4 is optimal for this room, if not 5 or 6 for newer players. the puzzles were unique and smart. the art gallery itself was gorgeous. there were some puzzles that couldn’t be solved without solving another first, even though i was under the impression it was somewhat asynchronous. either way, aesthetically pleasing room for sure there were some minor tech issues (no pencil in the first room, which made us lose a ton of time when our GM stopped replying) but other than that, really liked this one!

Nothing broken, but was missing a writing utensil so we had to improvise with a push pin. Otherwise, we would’ve been screwed on time.

Excellent heist room! I love that the gallery itself in the room museum was genuinely interesting. Like, I would check out actual art pieces in this museum that I am heisting from. The puzzles made sense, were logical, and utilized the art works well! All the rooms at the Boston Red Fox are great and are highly recommended!

Fun Heist game with a surprising first room - loved the theming. Conundrum Museum in Boston was a similar theme but a bit more puzzley, so I liked that one better. But this is great too!

This was a fun, immersive and challenging experience with lots of attention to detail and great customer service. Was a memorable party for teens and looking forward to going back. Hints are given on a screen, I prefer when they are given over a speaker, because I had to turn around to see them and sometimes missed them as I did not hear the audio cue (although it was a birthday party for teens and they were being very loud!)

Gameplay

Very fun room, several locks and safes to open but puzzles were all interesting, challenging, and visually appealing

Atmosphere

Lots of attention to detail. We were celebrating a birthday and they hung a happy birthday banner in the final room. Room is immersive.

Customer service

Excellent customer service! (See previous comment about birthday banner) GM Miranda was fun and helpful.

Ideal number of players

I love escape rooms, but find them challenging. There are Many puzzles in the museum part, I think most groups would find this room easier with a few people, maybe 6.

All of the rooms at Red Fox are unique, challenging, and so so satisfying. They are clearly crafted with care. This is probably their most straightforward room in terms of story, but it makes up for it with a lot of unique, high production value, visual puzzling! We did the room with 6 people and were glad to have so many folks there to help us get through all the content within the time frame! I think this room would be a LOT for 2 people. Possible (?), but definitely a challenge.
