Lab Rat

A certain section may look overwhelmingly non-linear with random puzzles. But the overall gameplay is actually linear and well directed. Stay focused!

If you zoom out in your mind, you really do feel like rats running around. The set was well designed with props made to scale.

Our GM was excellent! He was enthusiastic, and importantly, followed our game closely. The helpful nudges were appreciated. Moreover, he was proactive in ensuring a puzzle triggered correctly even before we could realize it. Our group was from out-of-town and he made us feel really welcomed!

Unique theme and set design.

Story builds from premise, incorporates details from the prologue, and has a conclusion.

You need to maintain a good momentum as there is a lot of running back and forth. The puzzles themselves aren't that complicated. At one point (earlier in the game), you may feel the overall challenge escalate in all directions - but be observant and stay focused to realize what needs to be done.

Space is large enough to fit 6 comfortably as well. 4-6 would be good!

Some crawling or squeezing past may be required. One person would need to do some light climbing and reaching over. In general, running back and forth between sections - like lab rats!

Navigation should take you straight to the entrance. It's not in a commercial area per se.

There is no dedicated parking. Street parking with residential areas around. You may need to drive around the block.

Exercise usual caution if parking on the street further away from the entrance. Don't leave belongings visible.

The game master was aware and helped us through it really quickly!!

There is some climbing but only one person needs to do it!

There is one step up into the room but several steps before but there are no rails which can be dangerous for some people.

Some really unique puzzles and moments due to the theming. Some solutions were difficult for us to interpret but we got there eventually.

Great atmosphere and set! Water bottle was really a highlight!

Our GM was great, very sociable and chatty. Had a good laugh with them.

I think many of the interactions are unique, and those that are not are themed very well to make up for it.

Story was great! Loved the videos and story elements.

Majority of the puzzles were not particularly difficult, although some took a bit because we were approaching it wrong.

Mechanical and tactile, very hands on.

More than 5 may crowd small rooms and leave some without anything to do at times, definitely no more than 6.

I think some people may find the rat in the videos scary but I personally did not. Not a scary experience in my opinion.

Could bring younger children, although they may make a bit of a mess with the water bottle.

Long hallways (which we did run in but that’s optional), light climbing, multiple rooms, no area to sit.

First room can be somewhat dark with no provided flashlight, multiple color puzzles, no easy area to sit until close to the end, light climbing for 1 member, lots of area, small hallways and rooms (could be difficult with a wheelchair or crutches). An area can only be accessed by a thin walkway between 2 objects, only required by one person, it would be difficult to access in a wheelchair or by a larger person.

People with color blindness and or mobility issues would likely struggle with potions of the game. The hallways are narrow so they would be difficult to move a wheel chair through (not to mention the stairs to get into the room to begin with). And there are a number of color puzzles as well.
