Step into your own black and white, film noir adventure! You are a private investigator in 1950's New York. One day you receive a letter from Betty McGee - a singer at the notorious Marlowe Hotel. She informs you that the gangster kingpin and hotel owner, Eddie Marlowe, is trying to blackmail her with incriminating material. She needs you to break in and retrieve the documents. You know Eddie is bad news, but you agree to take the case. What secrets await you inside the hotel? How will you locate the photos? What do you really know about Eddie Marlowe? oh she’s film noir DOWN. visually such a beautiful room, every detail down to the lighting is greyscale. only thing that wasn’t was my bright ass hair whoops. some pretty challenging puzzles in here, especially as a group of 2 we were stumped for a hot minute (still got out in time though ayoooo 😛)

An extremely solid room that makes great use of the space that they have. The puzzles in the room flow well and you generally know what you should be working on at all times. The puzzle sequences did feel a bit same-y compared to the variation of puzzles in other rooms but they still provide a good mix of challenging and logical puzzles. The set is beautiful with the classic noire monochromatic colour scheme for the whole room while the players are drip fed the story over the course of the game through the words that are used to unlock padlocks which I quite enjoyed.

Absolutely loved this room, so immersive I forgot that everything was black and white.
Really intuitive, room flowed well.
So immersive, I ended up forgetting it was black and white until the game master opened the door at the end.
Staff were amazing, Amelia was super friendly.

This room is awesome. The black and white theme makes it particularly immersive. It also looks beautiful - as is the case with all of the rooms I have completed at the Cipher room so far. This one is certainly more challenging than their others, and had cool and unique clues.

Just played this room as a two player team and had a great experience. The standout feature was the first room, which nailed an authentic film noir atmosphere that made the immersion instant. The puzzles were exceptionally well designed and everything followed a logical flow without relying on any obscure leaps in logic. It was a solid escape and up there in my top 10 of all time. Atmosphere: 99 Puzzles: 100 Enjoyment: 98 Creativity: 80 Overall: 94

I wish there was a meh button rather than thumbs up or thumbs down. Our game master wasn’t bad but we also left feeling like we were a ‘burden’ the intro stuff was very bland and the hint we were given when we asked wasn’t super helpful. We ended up guessing puzzle and after the same the game master was very bland and the way they talked to us brought down the vibe. We felt like we had been a burden somehow

Super well themed, very fun puzzles. Satisfying and challenging experience - would recommend embracing the black and white aesthetic and dressing the part for the room.
