37 escape rooms
FULL DISCLOSURE: I work for Escape This, a nearby escape room company. I honestly feel like I’m on drugs seeing the overwhelmingly positive reaction to this room on Morty. Did we play the same game? I’d like to state upfront that our games masters were lovely hosts. However the quality of the room, especially for a company with as much notoriety as Mission, was frankly embarrassing. Exposed wires and tech everywhere are not just a safety hazard but also a serious immersion breaker. The props and set felt cheap and have clearly not been very well maintained. There were constant rips, tears and chips throughout the room. A lot of the tech was also barely functional in game, props which are not only ripped up exposing the foam underneath, but also did not correctly function in the context of the puzzle and required excessive force to use. There was also a touchpad which did not work correctly, we inputted the correct code several times only to then be told over the radio that we had the right code and needed to put it in one more time, which is again a huge immersion breaker. One of the most egregious instances in our eyes, was when as soon as we finished a puzzle we were told over the radio to leave a set of candles on a desk without even having a chance to do anything. Then there’s the puzzles, which have absolutely no flow or logic to them whatsoever. For instance, during the intro we were explicitly told that we wouldn’t need anything from previous rooms to take into the next room. Only to be told over the radio that we had to go back into the previous room and use a picture on the wall. There was a very frustrating pattern of puzzles where you simply do something over and over again for an indeterminate amount of time until it feels like a GM arbitrarily decides that you’ve spent enough time on it. These puzzles all dragged on for far too long, and honestly felt as if the game was just trying to drag along so as to justify the 100 minute time. This would be maybe less aggravating if it weren’t for the substantial price point. $70 pp for that experience is mind boggling. I completely understand why Intruders is priced the way that it is, considering the numerous actors required. However in this game the actors are present for maybe 3 minutes total? There is absolutely no justification for this excessive price point especially when I could not for the life of me tell you where that money goes to.

Thank you for sharing your feedback. We respect that everyone has their own preferences and expectations when it comes to escape rooms, and we understand that not every room will be enjoyed by every player. We are also open to negative reviews and criticism, as they can help us improve. However, we believe some important context needs to be mentioned. You are a supervisor at Escape This, a nearby escape room business, which creates a clear conflict of interest. To be clear, our concern is not that you or your team left negative reviews. You are entitled to share your personal experiences. Our concern is that you and members of your team did not disclose that you work for a competing escape room business and posted negative reviews across multiple platforms without making this conflict of interest clear, presenting yourselves simply as regular players. After we reported this issue to Morty, you were asked multiple times to disclose that you work for another escape room business, but you refused to do so. The disclosure in your review and profile was added by Morty directly. Some of the reviews also appear biased and contain claims that we believe are inaccurate and, in some cases, can be directly verified against our records and CCTV footage. The Sacrifice has been running for a few years and has received a lot of support and positive feedback from players over that time, as well as recognition from Morty and TERPECA. We are not saying that The Sacrifice is the best escape room, or that everyone has to enjoy it, we know there are areas we can improve. However, we also believe that the large amount of positive feedback and recognition the room has received over the years should speak for itself. Regarding the technical issues mentioned in your review, we reviewed the footage from your session and sent the relevant footage to you directly. For example, the footage showed that the keypad did not fail to register the correct code. The incorrect code was entered multiple times, which is why it did not work. Even after we provided the footage showing what happened to you, this was still presented publicly as a technical failure of the room. We do appreciate the parts of your feedback that are constructive, and we continue to use feedback to review our props, maintenance and puzzles to see where we can improve the experience for our players. We have always welcomed friendly and respectful communication with other people working in the escape room industry. We believe businesses in the same industry can learn from each other even when they have differing opinions. However, based on what happened after this visit, particularly the multiple reviews containing false claims we do not consider this to be respectful or constructive criticism between industry colleagues. For this reason, while we respect your right to dislike the room and to leave an honest negative review, we cannot accept false or misleading claims being presented as fact. Given what has happened, you and your team will no longer be welcome at Mission Room Escape.
