“This room deserves so much more attention & credit than it’s currently getting. Out of a 40 room trip, this is one that really stands out as a favorite & I wish my entire group could have played it. It’s trippy & cerebral, which is my favorite type of theme but it’s so rare to find. Well done & bravo!”

“This was a great, fully immersive experience with high tech puzzles that were not too difficult. The set starts the moment you enter the door and is really ornate. The GM was great, and accommodated us in English. To be honest, the various components of the story did not totally make sense to us, but it may have been due to language (?) and didn’t dampen our enjoyment.”

“This game was the most weird and bizarre adventure I have ever played. You need to have a stomach for this kind of experience so make sure you are ready to be shoved around and pushed to your limits. Really great setting and acting!”

“La mina is hands down one of the best games you can find in Madrid. Without horror, it is an incredibly immersive experience with fun puzzles and great setting. This is one of those games you shouldn’t miss if you visit Madrid.”

“Don't miss a stay in the Bates . . . I mean Bites . . . motel. The atmosphere is so realistic that I felt like was dropped into a movie set. While clearly a scary theme, the way that it was presented and the engagement you have with the actor/game master is so amusing and playful, that I think even a scaredy cat will be fine. I was really blown away by the set. The game flow kept you moving through the house in a flow that led to gradual exploration and did feel like you were creeping around someone's house in secret. I can't recommend this game enough. On our Europe tour of 33 top-ranked games, this one came in at #5 for me.”

“This room felt uncomfortably real. For a moment I forgot we were on a set in a warehouse; if you told me the company built their business around an existing monastery I would believe it. I usually don’t scare too easily but I really did not want that nun anywhere near me. This was probably the creepiest escape room I’ve ever done.”

Remember those point-and-click adventure games where you’re locked in a room and have to solve puzzles to find the key and escape? Those online games were the original inspiration for the live escape rooms you’ll find all across the world today. An escape room is an immersive experience where you (and your team of 2 or more people) are locked in a room with a series of puzzles for 60 minutes. To escape and win the game, you have to look for clues, solve the puzzles, and find the key. While most escape rooms only give you 60 minutes to complete the challenge, others may have shorter or longer time limits. Many venues are private rooms where you and your team are the only players. However, some places may pair you with other groups who booked a slot at the same time. And don’t worry about getting stuck, asking for hints on a difficult puzzle is totally normal. While the original escape room (created by SCRAP in 2007) had a fairly simple aesthetic, today’s escape games often take you into a different world. Artistic set designs, secret doors, and unique interactive elements are all part of the fun. It’s like an adventure game that you can interact with in real life. But if you’re hoping to preview any rooms before you book a game somewhere, detailed images and videos can be hard to find. To keep the puzzles a secret and preserve the experience of seeing the room for the first time, most venues only offer a few photos or a short trailer about the room’s theme or narrative. The only way to know what it’s like is to go and try it for yourself!
