“So much fun! A fast-paced series of mini training scenarios felt almost like a challenge arcade, but more escape room-y. There was a nice flow throughout, with thoughtfully paced moments of action, stillness, and humor.”

“Good set, reasonable puzzles. There were some memorable, hilarious mishaps of our own making which perhaps gave us a more positive experience, but I'll also give credit to the game for creating the opportunity for those mishaps to happen. Like many horror games, lighting was dimmer than I would have preferred.”

“As a disclaimer, I don't love horror games (I don't hate them, I just don't seek them out). Having said that, I thought Chernobyl did a very good job at creating a tense atmosphere, delivering on that tension, and challenging us to deal with it. Puzzles were fine, though like many horror games, they're not the focus. Like many horror games, Chernobyl is dimly lit, though it didn't bother me as much as in some other games. I liked getting to watch a highlight video after the game, as it gave us the opportunity to relive key moments. It also gave a better appreciation of what the actor was doing.”

“We played Han’s Revenge earlier this year, so when we returned to Belgium we wanted to try their older room, Saint-Rumoldus. Although it their older room, it has held up really well. I loved the puzzles, the theme, and the design. Although we were two, we finished with quite some time left, so it is an easier game than Han’s Revenge (which we almost didn’t finish), but we never felt the puzzles were too easy. Looking forward to their third “experience” opening at the end of the year!”

“I love the goofy premise of Han's Revenge. The set was the highlight for me - it was well built and expansive, which felt very immersive and led to a sense of adventure. Puzzles were good, with a variety of interesting interactions.”

“Although this has one TERPECA nomination, it isn't talked about as much as some of Belgium's bigger and flashier games. I think that's a shame. The set isn't massive but it's great fun to explore, and it's beautifully designed and suits the theme. The puzzles were solid and I appreciated them even more when I learned that the owner had based some of them on actual codes used in WWI. All in all, I think this is well worth playing.”

“Good set, interesting interactions, puzzles made sense and fit in pretty well (though they didn't always seem well motivated; there was a bit of game logic of "I can do X, so I should do X"). I agree with other reviews that the set starts off strong but doesn't quite live up to it in later areas - it's still good, just not quite as good.”

“This is one of my favorite games: Great set, interesting interactions, multiple wow moments, good puzzles. My only thought is there were at least two themes I thought could have independently been very cool premises, and I would have loved to see each explored in more depth. Also, shout out for Escape Rush's entrance and lobby - it really sets the tone well.”

Remember those point-and-click adventure games where you’re locked in a room and have to solve puzzles to find the key and escape? Those online games were the original inspiration for the live escape rooms you’ll find all across the world today. An escape room is an immersive experience where you (and your team of 2 or more people) are locked in a room with a series of puzzles for 60 minutes. To escape and win the game, you have to look for clues, solve the puzzles, and find the key. While most escape rooms only give you 60 minutes to complete the challenge, others may have shorter or longer time limits. Many venues are private rooms where you and your team are the only players. However, some places may pair you with other groups who booked a slot at the same time. And don’t worry about getting stuck, asking for hints on a difficult puzzle is totally normal. While the original escape room (created by SCRAP in 2007) had a fairly simple aesthetic, today’s escape games often take you into a different world. Artistic set designs, secret doors, and unique interactive elements are all part of the fun. It’s like an adventure game that you can interact with in real life. But if you’re hoping to preview any rooms before you book a game somewhere, detailed images and videos can be hard to find. To keep the puzzles a secret and preserve the experience of seeing the room for the first time, most venues only offer a few photos or a short trailer about the room’s theme or narrative. The only way to know what it’s like is to go and try it for yourself!
