“The best room of our 17-room Europe trip - unanimous #1 in our group. Family-built over two years and it shows: gorgeous, coherent, large sets packed with detail. Our only note: slightly fewer unprompted hints would have made it perfect. TERPECA-caliber.”

“Wow. What an awesome set. So many different impressive environments, very clever character interactions and many components that I've never seen before. The puzzles were interesting as well and not too difficult. So much fun - live actors (our pirate was hilarious), puzzles we'd never seen anywhere else, and a genuinely impressive final room. A touch dated next to the newest generation of rooms, and the actors were slightly overzealous with hints as we were always a bit strapped for time. You will probably get a bit wet!”

“This was another highlight for me. Super solid game both in sets, use of space and puzzles. It was a bit annoying having a phone around my neck for the whole game, but other than that I really loved it. Both games at this location are classic escape rooms made with a high level of passion and love.”

“Loved this room from the first second onwards as there is no time wasted explaining any rules but the adventure starts right after you close the door behind you. Great setting with a broad range of in-theme decoration and props; all puzzles and tasks fit extremely well into the atmosphere. Couple of very fun surprises that I personally haven’t seen anywhere else yet. So overall a top room and a big recommendation for everyone looking for a (dystopian) adventure in Barcelona. :)”

“A highlight in Barcelona! We encountered the general theme “you are stuck in a dystopian future” various times now in Barcelona (all great and unique in one way or another), but this one I liked especially. Setting and props are extremely well designed, some very stunning details and 2 scenes/sections you pass through I especially loved due to there fun twists and details. We got a bit stuck in one place but the GM delivered hints in a very great and time-sensitive manner that it wasn’t too frustrating. Great live acting too. Thus: highly recommended.”

“Cool adventure in a dystopian future. Setting and tasks and puzzles are all very well fitting within the world created in this room. There are different possible endings and some fun side quests some of which involve live acting of the game master who did an excellent and very entertaining job.”

“As a disclaimer, I don't generally love horror. Having said that, I thought La Posesion was very polished and one of the types of horror that I do like - more spectacle/theatrical/ominous rather than chasing. The use of lighting to guide us, snappy reactivity to our actions, and actor performance was pretty much perfect. This was a modest game done very well. While I generally find horror games to be too dim, I thought this game did a good job of making things legible when called for. Sound levels were generally good except for the end, though I get what they were trying to do and am not too upset about that part.”

“As a disclaimer, I don't generally like horror. Even so, NightShift was fantastic, though it's difficult to say why without spoiling things. Good set, spooky vibes, decent puzzles. As with many horror games, lighting was sometimes dimmer than I would have preferred.”

“Big, physical, cinematic production - you'll get properly muddy, so dress for it. Loved the spectacle. One gripe: hints come over a PA system that's hard to understand, which cost us momentum a few times.”

“First, I must say that we played this game in Tension Mode, so my experience may be different than that of the many horror fans. The experience for me was the perfect level of horror. There is constant tension throughout, but clear times when the horror would rev up, so I was able to puzzle as well. The story was well integrated, and the puzzles had a clear flow. The game masters were great in their roles as well.”

“Good (and relatively large) set, reasonable puzzles, and some memorable interactions. Lighting was dimmer than I prefer, though I don't recall any problems actually reading things when I needed to. I think the notes about a branching structure are way oversold (just like in CyberCity) - sure, your actions in the game affect what ending you get, but for most of them you don't have any information to make an informed decision - it's pretty much random fortune. At least in this game, one of the branches depends on something you're incentivized to do, so there's a little bit of correlation, I guess?”

“Katrina was an amazing game that was tarnished by (I think) the most technical issues I've ever seen in a game. Despite that, it still was one of my favorite games of our Spain trip at #3 of 37. Fantastic set, good puzzles and interactions, several wow moments, great actor performance. After the game, my group compared notes and came up with about 20 technical issues we encountered, include several maglocks failing, buttons not working, puzzle triggers being overly fiddly and firing very late, and several moments that should have been exciting being reduced to confusion because things weren't triggering. None of this was a showstopper, but it did detract from the experience. From talking to other groups who played around the same time, it was only our group who had problems, so hopefully you'll be luckier.”

Remember those point-and-click adventure games where you’re locked in a room and have to solve puzzles to find the key and escape? Those online games were the original inspiration for the live escape rooms you’ll find all across the world today. An escape room is an immersive experience where you (and your team of 2 or more people) are locked in a room with a series of puzzles for 60 minutes. To escape and win the game, you have to look for clues, solve the puzzles, and find the key. While most escape rooms only give you 60 minutes to complete the challenge, others may have shorter or longer time limits. Many venues are private rooms where you and your team are the only players. However, some places may pair you with other groups who booked a slot at the same time. And don’t worry about getting stuck, asking for hints on a difficult puzzle is totally normal. While the original escape room (created by SCRAP in 2007) had a fairly simple aesthetic, today’s escape games often take you into a different world. Artistic set designs, secret doors, and unique interactive elements are all part of the fun. It’s like an adventure game that you can interact with in real life. But if you’re hoping to preview any rooms before you book a game somewhere, detailed images and videos can be hard to find. To keep the puzzles a secret and preserve the experience of seeing the room for the first time, most venues only offer a few photos or a short trailer about the room’s theme or narrative. The only way to know what it’s like is to go and try it for yourself!
