“This room was really fun! I really enjoyed the mechanic they used for the puzzles and the atmosphere was really well crafted. I find wizarding school rooms can feel really same-y especially with the Harry Potter theme, which this room also incorporates, but I still really enjoyed it. Make sure you don’t forget your glasses if you are short sighted as there’s a lot to look at 😁”

“Outstanding gameplay. Some of the best we’ve encountered in terms of flow, challenge level, and variety of puzzles. Moreover, we felt welcomed and attended to throughout the entirety of our experience. The game master even called in to ask if we would like the music lowered when he noticed that our daughter was plugging her ears. (She does so during most escape rooms in case anything jumps out.) We spoke with our game master afterwards, and he said that the few red herrings in the room are there to help him assist with clues. (They cue people to space and time in the narrative, so they make it quicker for the players to act on the hints.) Overall, we really loved the room and wish we lived in London so we could return and play the others!”

“Very fun! The clueQuest daffy sense of humor is front and center in this room, which is packed with challenges. The whole experience doesn't quite come together as elegantly as it does in origenes, but there's heaps to do. The digital experiences can be a little fiddly.”

“First of all, I love this theme - it's the cutest and very well-expressed through the set. This room has the best set of all the rooms at clueQuest. Lots of very fun cooperative experiences and puzzles. My one beef is that the digital puzzle is a little fiddly in terms of the controls, but other than I highly recommend this room.”

“This room is charmingly lowtech, but any escape room themed after breaking into the officer's club to steal beer is a winner in my book. Lots of creative puzzles, all mechanical, in a slightly cramped space. Note that if you did Battle for Britain in EscapePlan's previous locale, some of the puzzles from that room have a new room in Roll Out the Barrel, but there are lots of new challenges as well.”

“3rd escape room in London was a success! The Adventure Begins… is a brilliant nod to the film The Great Escape, sans motorcycle jump. Our game master Sarah was a wonderful host, and the puzzles and theme were fun!”

“A non traditional room, instead of escaping a room, you need to find your way into the operations center of the RAF, and strategically plan to save London from air raids. It’s great to do escape rooms set in the city where you play and Escape Plan does a great job of this with their rooms. Their game masters are professional and helpful, great about setting the stage for the game, and nice to talk with before and after.”

“The 75 minute Pushed for Time offers both some high tech, an elaborate mechanical device and traditional puzzles to make a unique room. The theme/story isn’t necessarily unique, but it’s put together well and makes sense. Not as immersive as the other rooms at Escape Plan, but it’s a lot of fun to play.”

Remember those point-and-click adventure games where you’re locked in a room and have to solve puzzles to find the key and escape? Those online games were the original inspiration for the live escape rooms you’ll find all across the world today. An escape room is an immersive experience where you (and your team of 2 or more people) are locked in a room with a series of puzzles for 60 minutes. To escape and win the game, you have to look for clues, solve the puzzles, and find the key. While most escape rooms only give you 60 minutes to complete the challenge, others may have shorter or longer time limits. Many venues are private rooms where you and your team are the only players. However, some places may pair you with other groups who booked a slot at the same time. And don’t worry about getting stuck, asking for hints on a difficult puzzle is totally normal. While the original escape room (created by SCRAP in 2007) had a fairly simple aesthetic, today’s escape games often take you into a different world. Artistic set designs, secret doors, and unique interactive elements are all part of the fun. It’s like an adventure game that you can interact with in real life. But if you’re hoping to preview any rooms before you book a game somewhere, detailed images and videos can be hard to find. To keep the puzzles a secret and preserve the experience of seeing the room for the first time, most venues only offer a few photos or a short trailer about the room’s theme or narrative. The only way to know what it’s like is to go and try it for yourself!
