“We are experienced escapers and LOVED this room. So many unique puzzles and wonderful tech. We loved our camp counselor Rachel and loved the entire vibe and set up of the venue. I hope we can do other rooms here when we come back to visit Phoenix again. There is a reason this room has won so many awards. Treat yourself to this experience!”

“My favorite room of the ones we did on our Phoenix trip. We did this room with 2 people (50+ rooms under our belt each) and had a BLAST. I loved the immersive parts. They have bits to let you dress up to fit the universe better and will adjust the puzzle levels a little to best fit your group. I loved the high tech puzzles and a lot of my favoriteswere very work together/coop heavy. So make sure you bring friends you click with and work well together with XD. You definitely can’t do it alone.”

“Easily my favorite room at Nemesis. Probably one of the most hilarious games I’ve done in a while. I thoroughly enjoyed flipping the switch and playing the bad guys instead of the heroes. Lots of entertaining puzzles and there was one puzzle with magnets that I thought was absolutely genius in how you’re supposed to figure it out. This room also rewards you for actually paying attention to the story and studying the props around you which I really liked. Lots of jokes that I found so incredibly entertaining and all in all just a silly room. Accessibility wise: 1 person has to do a little bit of floor is lava style climbing. There’s also a puzzle that has one person eat what I assume is a piece of chocolate? It’s not labeled or anything, just in a plastic bag and as a person with allergies I don’t trust anything that I don’t know what it is. It’s a safety thing. So either bring someone without allergies or ask the GM for clarification on what exactly it is. Also, the milkshake bar is fantastic. Brings the entire place up for me in terms of general vibe. We shared the cookie milkshake and had them put the nutter butter on a side plate so my fiancé could eat it and I wouldn’t have a peanut cookie in my milkshake. They were super understanding and accommodating. A perfect treat after 3 back to back escape rooms 😂😂😂”

“This was a really cute and entertaining game. I liked how a lot of the puzzle mechanics were outside of the box and thematic to the robot theme. The animatronics were also super impressive. We lucked out on some of the more tricky puzzles and got them on our first try but I could see how it could be frustrating for less experienced escape room goers. Some of them are pretty hard to figure out what you need to do and include a lot of red herrings. In terms of accessibility you need at least 1 person who’s willing to climb around on the floor a little and there’s a little bit of smoke effects at one point if that’s something that will bother you. All in all, I enjoyed myself a lot. Solid 9/10 room.”

“If you are in the area you must do this room! This was such a unique experience. On the site you see what looks like a video store ala Blockbuster. I was curious as to which room it might be but none of the three seemed to match the idea. Once we arrived we learned that the video store is the concept of the games. These futuristic movies allow you to inset your VHS tape into a portal and enter the movie to act out the adventure. What an amazing concept! Diamond Quest is like a 80s treasure themed adventure which reminded me of Goonies. The set for the whole game was of the highest quality and it felt like something you might find in Disneyworld. The effects were high quality as well and many of the puzzles/experiences had physical effects you could feel - like explosions and plummeting elevators! The puzzles were top notch and maybe just a little too much for just two players. Communication is key! The designer/GM was a great guy and spent some time after the room talking to us. I will definitely be back for the other two rooms!”

“Fantastic room that folks are sleeping on. This one should be winning some acclaim. Played most of the award winning games in Phoenix last week. I ranked this one as a strong contender for the best. Fun atmosphere, great puzzles, just enough wow factor.”

“This place is seriously underrated, easily one of the best and most well-designed escape rooms we’ve experienced. The decor and atmosphere are incredibly immersive and thoughtfully done, and the puzzles have a great flow with some really cool and unique elements. We were never stuck feeling lost or confused, which made the experience even more enjoyable. Highly recommend this location, both rooms are fantastic!”

“This is the second room we’ve done here, and we were so pleased. This room, like the previous one was so well themed, and every puzzle made sense and flowed from one to the next. We love this location and will be back to try the rest of their rooms.”

“A truly spectacular room. Fewer classic locks/keys and more unique puzzles. Several elements I've never seen before. Super immersive and well-done atmosphere. Our gamemaster, Riley, was fantastic! She was just as much into the debrief after as we were. Reading these reviews, I see a lot of people had trouble with the last puzzle, but we got it without much issue... avoiding spoilers, it's always a good idea to listen to a gamemaster's intro carefully.”

There’s a reason why this part of the country is called the Valley of the Sun, few places in the US get more sun than this desert metropolis. But Phoenix and Glendale have a lot more to offer than just a nice tan, these closely related cities are a hotbed of culture, attractions, and some of the best escape rooms in the southwest. If visiting in the winter - something that is highly recommended - then consider catching a Cardinal’s football game at University of Phoenix Stadium. Or perhaps you might enjoy a family hike Papago Park? Whatever your interests may be, you’ve go to eat, and Chelsea’s Kitchen is an excellent option for any palette. Just be sure to save some room in the itinerary for some of the area’s best escape rooms - there’s a lot to experience, so don’t be surprised if you find yourself returning again and again.
Phoenix and Glendale have embraced the escape room community over the past few years, turning out some of the highest quality games in the region. Since the first escape rooms arrived in The Valley of the Sun, this oasis in the desert has fallen in love with these immersive experiences. In fact, greater Phoenix is now home to over 20 different escape room venues. Mad Hatter’s Tea Party at Eludesions Escape Rooms is a fantastical adventure suitable for all ages. Grim Stacks: Books & Binding at The Puzzle Effect seamlessly intertwines thought-provoking puzzles into its immersive theme and set design. Escape Westgate’s The Lost Tomb is a fresh take on the popular excavation motif. With dozens of escape games in the area, the possibilities are basically endless — you’ll find games with themes of horror, adventure, crime, espionage, and plenty you may not expect.
Remember those point-and-click adventure games where you’re locked in a room and have to solve puzzles to find the key and escape? Those online games were the original inspiration for the live escape rooms you’ll find all across the world today. An escape room is an immersive experience where you (and your team of 2 or more people) are locked in a room with a series of puzzles for 60 minutes. To escape and win the game, you have to look for clues, solve the puzzles, and find the key. While most escape rooms only give you 60 minutes to complete the challenge, others may have shorter or longer time limits. Many venues are private rooms where you and your team are the only players. However, some places may pair you with other groups who booked a slot at the same time. And don’t worry about getting stuck, asking for hints on a difficult puzzle is totally normal. While the original escape room (created by SCRAP in 2007) had a fairly simple aesthetic, today’s escape games often take you into a different world. Artistic set designs, secret doors, and unique interactive elements are all part of the fun. It’s like an adventure game that you can interact with in real life. But if you’re hoping to preview any rooms before you book a game somewhere, detailed images and videos can be hard to find. To keep the puzzles a secret and preserve the experience of seeing the room for the first time, most venues only offer a few photos or a short trailer about the room’s theme or narrative. The only way to know what it’s like is to go and try it for yourself!
