“Fantastic! Everything that an escape room experience should be. Why this room rocks: - The atmosphere from the moment you enter the room is truly immersive. - The GM was fantastic and did a great job of getting you into the spirit of the room. - The puzzles blended so well into the atmosphere of the room that they didn’t feel as contrived as puzzles normally do in an escape room. They felt pretty natural for the environment. - The nudges we received were so subtle, which I appreciated. I’m sure if we’d needed more help a direct clue would have been given, but our GM was awesome at subtlety drawing your attention to something you may have missed without using any words. This felt like a place where others should learn how to be a GM, haha. - The theme is unique amongst escape rooms and incorporates the local Arizona folklore as a theme, which I really appreciated. - Several humorous moments sprinkled throughout. I don’t know how you could do this room and not leave with a smile. - The entire vibe of the Nemesis Club was amazing, including a super unique lounge to discover more surprises in afterwards if you choose to enjoy some of the Soda Jerk ice cream. This wasn’t there the last time I did a room here and I loved it! In case the TERPECA awards weren’t enough to convince you that you need to go do all the rooms here, I’ll add to the voices urging you to go enjoy the experiences here.”

“The entire game felt very polished and fun. Puzzles made sense and flowed well, the set felt appropriately cyberpunk-y, and the ending sequence was satisfying and appropriately themed. Dressing up in character is always fun, and I love that we got to do that for the game. The hint system was memorable and funny. Joy was a recurring feeling I got from this game, and I'm eager to see what The Immersive Machine comes up with next.”

“Amazing atmosphere, great set up. All the bells and whistles you can ask for. Great immersive story telling. We over thought a lot of the puzzles and ended up escaping by the skin of our teeth. The room also had a great sense of humor. Highly recommend.”

“This was my favorite of the three games at Nemesis Club. I especially loved the humor. The retro design was fun and unusual. Puzzles made sense and flowed well. The main thing I'd nitpick is that the final sequence had some very touchy inputs, which was frustrating. There were also one or two sections that felt like we got stuck, though in retrospect they were our fault (GM could have nudged, but it was OK they didn't). Also, I loved the milkshake speakeasy setting. The hidden lounge was a great place to hang out, and little decorative details were great.”

“If you are in the area you must do this room! This was such a unique experience. On the site you see what looks like a video store ala Blockbuster. I was curious as to which room it might be but none of the three seemed to match the idea. Once we arrived we learned that the video store is the concept of the games. These futuristic movies allow you to inset your VHS tape into a portal and enter the movie to act out the adventure. What an amazing concept! Diamond Quest is like a 80s treasure themed adventure which reminded me of Goonies. The set for the whole game was of the highest quality and it felt like something you might find in Disneyworld. The effects were high quality as well and many of the puzzles/experiences had physical effects you could feel - like explosions and plummeting elevators! The puzzles were top notch and maybe just a little too much for just two players. Communication is key! The designer/GM was a great guy and spent some time after the room talking to us. I will definitely be back for the other two rooms!”

“Fantastic room that folks are sleeping on. This one should be winning some acclaim. Played most of the award winning games in Phoenix last week. I ranked this one as a strong contender for the best. Fun atmosphere, great puzzles, just enough wow factor.”

“This place is seriously underrated, easily one of the best and most well-designed escape rooms we’ve experienced. The decor and atmosphere are incredibly immersive and thoughtfully done, and the puzzles have a great flow with some really cool and unique elements. We were never stuck feeling lost or confused, which made the experience even more enjoyable. Highly recommend this location, both rooms are fantastic!”

“This is the second room we’ve done here, and we were so pleased. This room, like the previous one was so well themed, and every puzzle made sense and flowed from one to the next. We love this location and will be back to try the rest of their rooms.”

“From the vibrant set to the wacky intro/outro videos to the variety of whimsical, tactile puzzles, this was a delight. However, don't be fooled by the light-hearted theme: This room is a challenge and will kick your butt! It offers a lot of content, but it gives a clear progress station that shows how close you are. While the searching can be tedious, it's all very fair and clever. Bring a fast-moving team and be prepared for a joyous and highly-interactive experience!”

“A truly spectacular room. Fewer classic locks/keys and more unique puzzles. Several elements I've never seen before. Super immersive and well-done atmosphere. Our gamemaster, Riley, was fantastic! She was just as much into the debrief after as we were. Reading these reviews, I see a lot of people had trouble with the last puzzle, but we got it without much issue... avoiding spoilers, it's always a good idea to listen to a gamemaster's intro carefully.”

There’s a reason why this part of the country is called the Valley of the Sun, few places in the US get more sun than this desert metropolis. But Phoenix and Glendale have a lot more to offer than just a nice tan, these closely related cities are a hotbed of culture, attractions, and some of the best escape rooms in the southwest. If visiting in the winter - something that is highly recommended - then consider catching a Cardinal’s football game at University of Phoenix Stadium. Or perhaps you might enjoy a family hike Papago Park? Whatever your interests may be, you’ve go to eat, and Chelsea’s Kitchen is an excellent option for any palette. Just be sure to save some room in the itinerary for some of the area’s best escape rooms - there’s a lot to experience, so don’t be surprised if you find yourself returning again and again.
Phoenix and Glendale have embraced the escape room community over the past few years, turning out some of the highest quality games in the region. Since the first escape rooms arrived in The Valley of the Sun, this oasis in the desert has fallen in love with these immersive experiences. In fact, greater Phoenix is now home to over 20 different escape room venues. Mad Hatter’s Tea Party at Eludesions Escape Rooms is a fantastical adventure suitable for all ages. Grim Stacks: Books & Binding at The Puzzle Effect seamlessly intertwines thought-provoking puzzles into its immersive theme and set design. Escape Westgate’s The Lost Tomb is a fresh take on the popular excavation motif. With dozens of escape games in the area, the possibilities are basically endless — you’ll find games with themes of horror, adventure, crime, espionage, and plenty you may not expect.
Remember those point-and-click adventure games where you’re locked in a room and have to solve puzzles to find the key and escape? Those online games were the original inspiration for the live escape rooms you’ll find all across the world today. An escape room is an immersive experience where you (and your team of 2 or more people) are locked in a room with a series of puzzles for 60 minutes. To escape and win the game, you have to look for clues, solve the puzzles, and find the key. While most escape rooms only give you 60 minutes to complete the challenge, others may have shorter or longer time limits. Many venues are private rooms where you and your team are the only players. However, some places may pair you with other groups who booked a slot at the same time. And don’t worry about getting stuck, asking for hints on a difficult puzzle is totally normal. While the original escape room (created by SCRAP in 2007) had a fairly simple aesthetic, today’s escape games often take you into a different world. Artistic set designs, secret doors, and unique interactive elements are all part of the fun. It’s like an adventure game that you can interact with in real life. But if you’re hoping to preview any rooms before you book a game somewhere, detailed images and videos can be hard to find. To keep the puzzles a secret and preserve the experience of seeing the room for the first time, most venues only offer a few photos or a short trailer about the room’s theme or narrative. The only way to know what it’s like is to go and try it for yourself!
