Mogollon Monster: Scouting for Arizona's Bigfoot
  • Escape room
  • IRL

While this game was fun and well done, it didn't quite land as well for me as Henchmen's Heist or EVIL Robots. This game has some silliness/humor, but less than the others, and I think that's a big part of what I appreciated about the other games. This one also felt a little more worn, though this might be an intentional design/style decision. My group of 3 experienced players felt somewhat pressed for time (although a bit less so than in Henchmen's Heist). I think we would have been more comfortable with a 4th player, which isn't something I usually say. Of the 3 games at Nemesis Club, this one felt the most puzzle focused and had the ending that felt like it had the highest stakes. I appreciated the ample light sources provided - many games don't do as good a job.

The entire game felt very polished and fun. Puzzles made sense and flowed well, the set felt appropriately cyberpunk-y, and the ending sequence was satisfying and appropriately themed. Dressing up in character is always fun, and I love that we got to do that for the game. The hint system was memorable and funny. Joy was a recurring feeling I got from this game, and I'm eager to see what The Immersive Machine comes up with next.

Amazing atmosphere, great set up. All the bells and whistles you can ask for. Great immersive story telling. We over thought a lot of the puzzles and ended up escaping by the skin of our teeth. The room also had a great sense of humor. Highly recommend.

This was my favorite of the three games at Nemesis Club. I especially loved the humor. The retro design was fun and unusual. Puzzles made sense and flowed well. The main thing I'd nitpick is that the final sequence had some very touchy inputs, which was frustrating. There were also one or two sections that felt like we got stuck, though in retrospect they were our fault (GM could have nudged, but it was OK they didn't). Also, I loved the milkshake speakeasy setting. The hidden lounge was a great place to hang out, and little decorative details were great.

We absolutely loved this room. It is right up there with some of the best we’ve done. It was my 31st escape room, and I would definitely put it in my top 10 I’ve done at least. The theming was great. The puzzles were intuitive. The whole room felt premium. Also, there was a dark room where you have to find stuff without lights of any sort, which was really cool and unique.

Fantastic room that folks are sleeping on. This one should be winning some acclaim. Played most of the award winning games in Phoenix last week. I ranked this one as a strong contender for the best. Fun atmosphere, great puzzles, just enough wow factor.

Very well thought out take on a museum heist scenario. Some unique puzzles and play flowed well. Decor was on point. Couldn’t ask for better customer service. Worthy of your time if headed to Phoenix.

This is the second room we’ve done here, and we were so pleased. This room, like the previous one was so well themed, and every puzzle made sense and flowed from one to the next. We love this location and will be back to try the rest of their rooms.

From the vibrant set to the wacky intro/outro videos to the variety of whimsical, tactile puzzles, this was a delight. However, don't be fooled by the light-hearted theme: This room is a challenge and will kick your butt! It offers a lot of content, but it gives a clear progress station that shows how close you are. While the searching can be tedious, it's all very fair and clever. Bring a fast-moving team and be prepared for a joyous and highly-interactive experience!

A truly spectacular room. Fewer classic locks/keys and more unique puzzles. Several elements I've never seen before. Super immersive and well-done atmosphere. Our gamemaster, Riley, was fantastic! She was just as much into the debrief after as we were. Reading these reviews, I see a lot of people had trouble with the last puzzle, but we got it without much issue... avoiding spoilers, it's always a good idea to listen to a gamemaster's intro carefully.

One room was a warm but they brought in a fan and water. They were very kind and helpful and apologetic. The room was great for set up and theme. The puzzles weren’t too difficult but maybe ranked hard because of the number of puzzles.

How Do Escape Rooms Work?

Remember those point-and-click adventure games where you’re locked in a room and have to solve puzzles to find the key and escape? Those online games were the original inspiration for the live escape rooms you’ll find all across the world today. An escape room is an immersive experience where you (and your team of 2 or more people) are locked in a room with a series of puzzles for 60 minutes. To escape and win the game, you have to look for clues, solve the puzzles, and find the key. While most escape rooms only give you 60 minutes to complete the challenge, others may have shorter or longer time limits. Many venues are private rooms where you and your team are the only players. However, some places may pair you with other groups who booked a slot at the same time. And don’t worry about getting stuck, asking for hints on a difficult puzzle is totally normal. While the original escape room (created by SCRAP in 2007) had a fairly simple aesthetic, today’s escape games often take you into a different world. Artistic set designs, secret doors, and unique interactive elements are all part of the fun. It’s like an adventure game that you can interact with in real life. But if you’re hoping to preview any rooms before you book a game somewhere, detailed images and videos can be hard to find. To keep the puzzles a secret and preserve the experience of seeing the room for the first time, most venues only offer a few photos or a short trailer about the room’s theme or narrative. The only way to know what it’s like is to go and try it for yourself!
