“This is a high-pressure military-themed game that uses lots of technology, difficult puzzles, and quite a bit of reading in order to win. I would recommend a group of four experienced players. Loved the Mission Impossible: Fallout soundtrack playing in the background… it added to the intensity.”

“This is a straightforward room, with a clear goal and some fun puzzle play. Also more than a couple times when I fully jumped and or screamed, but maybe that’s just me LOL. I found this room not a difficult one, but a very enjoyable experience if you like some scares and creepiness.”

“As far as Old West games go, this one is kind of adorable. The set is simple but still very effective, and the puzzles here are good as well. There’s a sense of humor here that put me in a good mood. We did this room with 4 enthusiasts, and I feel like 4 beginners might still be fine here. Great room!”

“Overall solid game. The set design was wonderful. Most of the puzzles felt satisfying. There was a few times the dim lighting posed an unnecessary challenge for us but we still escaped the room regardless. I could really nitpick if I had to but overall I’d definitely say this is one of the best games I’ve played in New Mexico!”

“If you want to be immersed in a haunted mansion that is incredibly well made and also has a great story, definitely play this room. The set: To start, the set with this room is phenomenal, you get all the parts to a haunted mansion. Everything inside immediately immerses you. This is top notch set production. The story: With this room, I was absolutely blown away by how well the designers managed to tell the story to the audience. You get a front row seat to see and feel how the family that once was in this house lived and interacted. Your sight, smell, hearing, and touch will all be encapsulated which furthermore makes the story be much more compelling and memorable. The Puzzles: I enjoyed quite a few of the puzzles in this room. A lot of the puzzles are on the more interactive side but it fits the room really well. This all goes with saying that one puzzle in the later part of the room was not very enjoyable to solve. I will say this room is not about the puzzles though.”

“Bombshell is one of my favourite games in New Mexico. The use of sets, lighting, and sound really immerses you in the story of the mafia family. The use of technology in one scene of the game really adds to the experience. There are also a very good mix of puzzle types in this game to activate all different parts of your brain. My group really enjoyed the game and wish it was a bit longer because we felt it ended abruptly.”

“This is a room built for all kinds of people, everyone can enjoy this room. Very puzzle focused room with added humor throughout. Even though it takes place in a small space it is highly immersive and there are quite a few reveals and surprises that come unexpected to give you some wow factor. If in the area definitely stop and play the games here.”

“The room atmosphere was good, the puzzles were in line with the theme. The tech involved did not seem out of place with the era of a Wild West saloon. Room was fun to do without being excessively difficult.”

“I loved this room, lots of scares ranging from a little startling to decently scary. The combination of all the scares makes it pretty scary. I also think that the puzzles in this room were way better than the rest of the rooms here, very solid and fair solves. If you’re into scary rooms you’ll love this one.”

Remember those point-and-click adventure games where you’re locked in a room and have to solve puzzles to find the key and escape? Those online games were the original inspiration for the live escape rooms you’ll find all across the world today. An escape room is an immersive experience where you (and your team of 2 or more people) are locked in a room with a series of puzzles for 60 minutes. To escape and win the game, you have to look for clues, solve the puzzles, and find the key. While most escape rooms only give you 60 minutes to complete the challenge, others may have shorter or longer time limits. Many venues are private rooms where you and your team are the only players. However, some places may pair you with other groups who booked a slot at the same time. And don’t worry about getting stuck, asking for hints on a difficult puzzle is totally normal. While the original escape room (created by SCRAP in 2007) had a fairly simple aesthetic, today’s escape games often take you into a different world. Artistic set designs, secret doors, and unique interactive elements are all part of the fun. It’s like an adventure game that you can interact with in real life. But if you’re hoping to preview any rooms before you book a game somewhere, detailed images and videos can be hard to find. To keep the puzzles a secret and preserve the experience of seeing the room for the first time, most venues only offer a few photos or a short trailer about the room’s theme or narrative. The only way to know what it’s like is to go and try it for yourself!
