Pins & Needles Tattoo ParlorThe Escape Ventures - Clearwater [prev. The Exit Games]Escape roomIRLAustin was “a ton” of fun as GM. This is another one where we don’t want to give much away but rest assured this is a top notch room. Fully immersive, a lot of attention to detail and story. Yea, they use some old school locks but they are perfectly integrated and make sense for the setting. We honestly like both of their rooms equally, so do them both and keep eye out for new rooms coming. Best in US for us! For those with mobility issues (like Julie!) there is a short crawl but otherwise good to go. Escape Couple rating: 6🗝️💚 (we use a 1-6🗝️ rating scale) 1 🗝️: Don’t waste your money 👎 2 🗝️: Fixable but not there yet 👎 3 🗝️: Standard escape room 👍 4 🗝️: Better than average room 👍 5 🗝️: Excellent room with wow factors ❤️ 6 🗝️: Best of the best ❤️
Crazy Train: The Ballad of Skeemin' PlotzDoldrick's Escape RoomEscape roomIRLWe laughed our asses off. Genuinely clever storytelling with full room integration. Puzzles were solid. Proof great rooms can happen in limited spaces. Ashley was great GM. A lot of production work went into animation and music which was a delight. Escape Couple rating: 5 🗝️ (we use a 1-6🗝️ rating scale) 1 🗝️: Don’t waste your money 👎 2 🗝️: Fixable but not there yet 👎 3 🗝️: Standard escape room 👍 4 🗝️: Better than average room 👍 5 🗝️: Excellent room with wow factors ❤️ 6 🗝️: Best of the best ❤️
Servants of SleightThe Escape Ventures - Clearwater [prev. The Exit Games]Escape roomIRLThis room was incredible. We are doing their newer room tomorrow but as of writing this is our new #1 room in the US. Puzzles and clue system were perfectly integrated. there was magic galore and spectacular surprises. Kyle was fantastic GM! Great set and unique puzzles. Don’t want to give much away - just do this room!
Monsters from the AbyssMemphis Escape Rooms - East MemphisEscape roomIRLThis room was super fun with some great effects but the main mechanism got a "bit" tiring especially with some lengthy puzzles requiring a lot of usage. Regardless, worth your time as it is one of the best rooms in the area. Love good practical effects! Escape Couple rating: 5 🗝️: Excellent room with wow factors (we use a 1-6🗝️ rating scale) 1 🗝️: Don’t waste your money 👎 2 🗝️: Fixable but not there yet 👎 3 🗝️: Standard escape room 👍 4 🗝️: Better than average room 👍 5 🗝️: Excellent room with wow factors ❤️ 6 🗝️: Best of the best ❤️
One Night In The 90sMemphis Escape Rooms - East MemphisEscape roomIRLA really amazing 90s room continues to elude us, but points for trying.
Lost PyramidMemphis Escape Rooms - South MainEscape roomIRLWhile some of the final puzzles were infuriating, it was a good set with some cool mechanisms and overall good flow. Escape Couple rating: 4🗝️ (we use a 1-6🗝️ rating scale) 1 🗝️: Don’t waste your money 👎 2 🗝️: Fixable but not there yet 👎 3 🗝️: Standard escape room 👍 4 🗝️: Better than average room 👍 5 🗝️: Excellent room with wow factors ❤️ 6 🗝️: Best of the best ❤️
The Jurassic ProjectMemphis Escape Rooms - South MainEscape roomIRLAny time we miss European escape rooms, we remind ourselves of Tennessee. The escape rooms in this state are top notch and Memphis Escape Games easily belongs with the greats. We also love what they are doing to create other gaming experiences. If you are going to do multiple rooms, call them. They are big on rewarding repeat players with discounts. We are enamored with any room that fully immerses you and gives you that sense of whimsy that can only be experienced live. They go all in on recreating The Jurassic… movie. The set was beautiful and there were extra touches (like name tags!) that weren’t necessary but added to the fun and immersion. Highly recommend! What a joy. 🤩 The staff was also fantastic. Owner reached out to us when he saw we had booked five rooms. Everything here is original and built with love, and it shows in the excellent work. If you are going to do multiple rooms, call them. They are big on rewarding repeat players with discounts. Escape rooms love pirates and this is one of the best we’ve experienced. Set was bonkers and the puzzles flowed really well. Also gave us a hilarious moment we will carry always. Only note is that it was a “bit” too dark. You may want to request a flashlight if you are visually impaired. The staff was also fantastic. Owner reached out to us when he saw we had booked five rooms. Mansion MurderEscapology - MontgomeryEscape roomIRLThis is a begrudging 3 for us on our scale. We didn’t love the puzzle design but it was “fine.” Some ordering issues that confused when to use what. But overall, a standard escape room. Escape Couple rating: 3🗝️: Standard escape room (we use a 1-6🗝️ rating scale) 1 🗝️: Don’t waste your money 👎 2 🗝️: Fixable but not there yet 👎 3 🗝️: Standard escape room 👍 4 🗝️: Better than average room 👍 5 🗝️: Excellent room with wow factors ❤️ 6 🗝️: Best of the best ❤️
A Pirate's CurseEscapology - MontgomeryEscape roomIRLWe’ve never had a worse GM experience. At once point we had the right code for the first step of a multi-puzzle but just weren’t lining it up right on the lock. Instead of telling us “keep trying” the GM gave us the final code for the entire puzzle, then immediately posted the *entire answer* to the next multi-step puzzle. When we told the manager he just said “oh that’s not good.” With a decent GM, this is a standard escape room and would have received a three from us, but after three games of convoluted puzzles and bad GMs, we just can’t recommended that you spend your money here. Escape Couple rating: 1🗝️: Don’t waste your money (we use a 1-6🗝️ rating scale) 1 🗝️: Don’t waste your money 👎 2 🗝️: Fixable but not there yet 👎 3 🗝️: Standard escape room 👍 4 🗝️: Better than average room 👍 5 🗝️: Excellent room with wow factors ❤️ 6 🗝️: Best of the best ❤️
The Code: Cyber HeistEscapology - MontgomeryEscape roomIRLThis room contained a cardinal sin of escape rooms: Guessing. Especially when the intro video tells you not to guess. One puzzle was so convoluted it was unforgivable. Many opportunities to make it clear and logical, none of them taken. If they fixed this, it would be an acceptable room, but we just have to subtract on lazy puzzle design. Also, our GM gave us a nudge on something we already solved, making us think we missed something, so that wasted some time. Escape Couple rating: 2 🗝️: Fixable but not there yet 👎 (we use a 1-6🗝️ rating scale) 1 🗝️: Don’t waste your money 👎 2 🗝️: Fixable but not there yet 👎 3 🗝️: Standard escape room 👍 4 🗝️: Better than average room 👍 5 🗝️: Excellent room with wow factors ❤️ 6 🗝️: Best of the best ❤️
Revenge on the Bayou - CLOSEDClue Carré - New OrleansEscape roomIRLWe started out with way too much information, but once the story began to unfold, it all started falling into place. Great unity in the puzzles throughout. High level of difficulty but doable and GM did a great job with nudges. Kam as GM was great and we love Clue Carre. Escape Couple rating: 4 🗝️: Better than average room 👍 1-2 🗝️: Don’t waste your money 👎 3 🗝️: Standard escape room 👍 4 🗝️: Better than average room 👍 5 🗝️: Excellent room with wow factors ❤️ 6 🗝️: Best of the best ❤️
The Voodoo CemeteryClue Carré - New OrleansEscape roomIRLWe have genuinely liked Clue Carre over the years. The biggest tip we can give is that you should wait until they open their new location if possible. Things have gotten a bit shabby and when we found out they were moving we understood why they weren’t fixing them. There is solid puzzle design in all of their rooms. This one isn’t our favorites but you have to love the voodoo theme. In the overall intro video they say that codes and keys won’t be used again in their rooms. This room is an exception. Escape Couple rating: 3 🗝️: Standard escape room 👍 (we use a 1-6🗝️ rating scale) 1-2 🗝️: Don’t waste your money 👎 3 🗝️: Standard escape room 👍 4 🗝️: Better than average room 👍 5 🗝️: Excellent room with wow factors ❤️ 6 🗝️: Best of the best ❤️
The Carnival Heist - CLOSEDClue Carré - New OrleansEscape roomIRLThis room has a split start but they give you a choice based on the overarching type of puzzle which is a nice touch. Gamemaster Kam was a total delight. Great teamwork and communication room. One mechanism stuck and GM had to come in to dislodge. Could use a spruce up, but overall a solid room. Escape Couple rating: 3 🗝️: Standard escape room 👍 (we use a 1-6🗝️ rating scale) 1-2 🗝️: Don’t waste your money 👎 3 🗝️: Standard escape room 👍 4 🗝️: Better than average room 👍 5 🗝️: Excellent room with wow factors ❤️ 6 🗝️: Best of the best ❤️
Kidnapping 2: Afraid of the DarkBreakout Games - BirminghamEscape roomIRL250 Rooms! 🗝️ This was a cool concept for a company dealing with minimalist space. Very, very dark, which should surprise no one as the tagline is “Too dark to see?” Some puzzles were a stretch and needed to better consider the low light but points for creativity. Escape Couple rating: 3 🗝️: Standard escape room 👍 (we use a 1-6🗝️ rating scale) 1-2 🗝️: Don’t waste your money 👎 3 🗝️: Standard escape room 👍 4 🗝️: Better than average room 👍 5 🗝️: Excellent room with wow factors ❤️ 6 🗝️: Best of the best ❤️
Bomb Squad [prev. Undercover Alley] - CLOSEDBreakout Games - BirminghamEscape roomIRLA creative room for a small space. Do NOT recommend doing this with more than three people. Light and space would be an issue for more. They need to update the room - we had a brief on everything we shouldn’t use because it’s no longer part of game. Jackson was a delightful GM. Escape Couple rating: 3🗝️ 1-2 🗝️: Don’t waste your money 👎 3 🗝️: Standard escape room 👍 4 🗝️: Better than average room 👍 5 🗝️: Excellent room with wow factors ❤️ 6 🗝️: Best of the best ❤️
Island EscapeBreakout Games - BirminghamEscape roomIRLSome truly bizarre puzzles considering the theme. One mechanism didn’t work then one broke in the game. Then there was another puzzle that was super misleading. One flashlight didn’t work. This room needs a serious update. Escape Couple rating: 2🗝️ 1-2 🗝️: Don’t waste your money 👎 3 🗝️: Standard escape room 👍 4 🗝️: Better than average room 👍 5 🗝️: Excellent room with wow factors ❤️ 6 🗝️: Best of the best ❤️
Runaway TrainBreakout Games - BirminghamEscape roomIRL2nd best all time record. We were in genius mode. CJ was super fun game master. Staff couldn't believe our time. 😂 Good set, nice range of puzzles, cool electronic elements for train and puzzles were well integrated. This is one of the better Breakout Games rooms we’ve done. Favorite escape room quote: Me: We murdered this room. Game master CJ: You didn’t murder this room, you killed its parents in an alley and now it is Batman. Escape Couple rating: 4🗝️ 1-2 🗝️: Don’t waste your money 👎 3 🗝️: Standard escape room 👍 4 🗝️: Better than average room 👍 5 🗝️: Excellent room with wow factors ❤️ 6 🗝️: Best of the best ❤️
Submarine Survival - CLOSEDBreakout Games - BirminghamEscape roomIRLTrue to Breakout Games, this was a good room with no real wow factors. There was a fun technical element tied to the submarine and we always enjoy creatures. Game master Mia was great. Breakout calls this one of their most immersive rooms which speaks to a low bar of immersion. Again, not trying to throw shade, you know when you do a Breakout game you’ll have a good time but won’t get your mind blown. Escape Couple rating: 3🗝️ Personally, we use a 1-6 🗝️ scale to rate rooms which we include in our reviews (starting Dec 2023).
