La Rébellion
The Cipher Room St Peters
Escape room
IRL
This was such a stunning, top notch experience. Cipher Room deliver memorable escape experiences, and ‘La Rébellion’ was no exception. Each puzzle and room flowed beautifully into the next, and as with their other St Peters room, ‘Mr Pepper’s Toy Shop’, this room offers a jaw-dropping finale.
Mr Pepper’s Toy Shop
The Cipher Room St Peters
Escape room
IRL
This was my fiftieth room, and I am so glad I travelled interstate to experience ‘Mr Pepper’s Toy Shop’. The props, set design and storyline provided a rich foundation to the experience, allowing the puzzles to propel you along to the terrifying conclusion of the room. It was incredible — there’s a reason this room ranks so highly.
The Marlowe Hotel
The Cipher Room Newtown
Escape room
IRL
What a visually stunning escape experience. The monochromatic decor and the noir-style story delivery was so, so fun. Tricky, but not impossible, each puzzle was satisfying to finish. ‘The Marlowe Hotel’ is a great room!
Area 1: Nuclear Enrichment
Project Immersive
Escape room
IRL
What an absolute delight! Project Immersive are broadening the storytelling within their Area 1 world, and the run of accompanying puzzles is wonderful. Prepare for an exciting and unique ending that hints towards the future of immersive escape room experiences!
Area 1: The Portal
Project Immersive
Escape room
IRL
I cannot recommend this room enough. The immersion starts before you even enter the building, and the interactions within the escape experience were SO, so good. Wickedly so. One of my favourite escape experiences to date! Unique puzzles and props found throughout the rooms that deepen the narrative and puzzle flow. It even has an exciting ending to the experience. I’m looking forward to playing anything they open!
The Artefact
Next Level Escape
Escape room
IRL
The Artefact was so much fun! The GM experience at Next Level Escape really sets the bar for GM interactions and the way they utilise this communication to propel the group forward is a delight. Rosie, our GM, made the experience a delight. The story was exciting, thematic, funny and engaging — it was SO much fun. A top five experience for sure. It was an experience that didn’t take itself too seriously, which led to such memorable moments. I wish I could play it again!
The Abandoned Carnival
Padlockd Escape Rooms
Escape room
IRL
So many carnival-specific props and puzzles with a few changes from its original iteration that make it more family-friendly than ever. It’s a communication-forward experience with ample rooms that culminate in a puzzle difficult to finish without teamwork!
Bank Heist
Social Escape Rooms
Escape room
IRL
What. A. Room. From the great flow of puzzles to the impressive vault door itself, the ‘Bank Heist’ was easily my favourite heist game. The bonus challenges were tricky, but very, very cool! We had the chance to see the breakdown of our experience graphed out against the average group entering into Bank Heist. It was a unique and fascinating opportunity to dig down into the data of the game. Mark, Social Escape Rooms’s creator, took the time to run through other puzzles and was so, so kind. It was great to talk escape rooms with such a passionate designer. I’m looking forward to returning to Social Escape next time I’m in Sydney to play more rooms!
Forest of Echoes
Next Level Escape
Escape room
IRL
We were floored by the way Next Level Escape delivered a nonlinear room in ‘Forest of Echoes’. The game experience of choosing your own path with Next Level’s engaging GM interactions took this escape room to a great level. Pixel was a great GM and she took the time to discuss the room and its puzzles afterwards. It was awesome!
Steampunk: Alchemist Revenge
Quest Room
Escape room
IRL
The theming, puzzles and GM experience was unlike any other. The carefully constructed bespoke puzzles set a very high bar — it was an utter delight from start to finish. I didn’t want to leave the Steampunk world!
