Believe them. 2 out of 2 people in my party had substantial problems with headsets; different problems, both flagged aggressively, one of which got fixed, one of which was shrugged off but blew up his experience (the second half played during his first half). The show ought to be shut down until the tech is redesigned. When the headsets were working, it was still an incoherent experience. Do better, Netflix. You should be leading, not glitching.

Life and Trust [Immersive Experience] - CLOSEDEmursiveEscape roomOther Store brand “Sleep No More.” The choreography is broken. They hired Broadway choreographers, big mistake. Everyone in my large party reported constantly being in the dancers’ way, no matter where they stood, all evening. Led to feelings of shame. The dancers don’t establish their dancing space, and they don’t stay in one space for long even if they did. This results in injuries to audience members. We saw one audience member get kicked in the neck by a performer. Another night someone got punched. The production doesn’t have the experience that the Punchdrunk team has, and it’s definitely missing the soul of Punchdrunk shows. Worth checking out but temper expectations. It’s a professional show mounted by noobs.
Escape AI [VR]Immersive Gamebox - HoustonEscape roomIRLDefinitely non-traditional (you only engage with three wall-sized touch screens), but it delivered more thrill than a lot of escape rooms. A fun world to enter, too. There’s a very light physical challenge section in the middle, so it’s not all puzzling. Recommend to enthusiasts to play as a team of two.

I kept marveling at how Extra the whole thing was. For the skeptics out there, yes, it’s non traditional, but it absolutely works.

We had to quit this game in the first ten minutes because I walked straight out of a dimly lit rail car and fell four feet onto concrete. There was a time pressure mechanic that makes you want to move quickly in an unsafe environment. The rest of the game I cannot speak to.

As an owner, I was often left asking “whyyyyy” which was hard to articulate because my jaw was on the ground. And the only answer I can come up with is love. Go. Fall in love. This game was made for us.

Stay In The Dark - CLOSEDDark Park VlaardingenEscape roomIRLWe got the chance to play Stay in the Dark on closing day. I will consider crossing the Atlantic for it one of the best decisions of my life.
Bridge CommandBridge CommandEscape roomOther Set is lovely. Onboarding took over an hour. Game was chaotic in an un-fun way. Basically the bridge simulator part of the experience is not approachable to people off the street. No drama or real storytelling despite the presence of professional actors.
Phantom Peak - CLOSEDPhantom PeakEscape roomOther Don’t approach Phantom Peak like an escape room, and you will have an extraordinary time in this open world quest-driven adventure. You will only be able to complete 2, maybe 3 trails per visit, if you try to do more, you’ll blow through what makes this fun. The whole point is interacting with the actors in this wacky world, being shady, coming up with covers and fibs, and embracing Jonas with all your heart. It’s unlike anything else, a must do.
The Real Unreal [Immersive Art]Meow WolfEscape roomOther This is a solid Meow Wolf introduction, but will disappoint anyone who has been to House of Eternal Return, as it bares too many similarities to that exhibit. I’m baffled why they did a near-replica of the Santa Fe House and not some crazy mall department store instead. Go when it won’t be busy, that’s the only way to have a good time. The floor plan is wild and wonderful, the art excellent or very flat, it varies, the story shallow.
De Wraak Van Han [Han’s Revenge]De Gouden KooiEscape roomIRLThis is going to be a top 20 TERPECA game in 2023. PLAY IT!! Very creative story, excellent sense of adventure, and some special effects to boot inside a clean game flow. My party of five hyper-enthusiasts all fell in love.
Lab Rats - CLOSEDEscape Hour AustinEscape roomIRLThis game plays well with a larger group, even of experienced players. It’s old school fun and makes the typical split cell mechanic feel fresh.
