A Pirates CurseEscapology - NapervilleEscape roomIRL1st time visiting Escapology’s newly opened Naperville location and it was a great experience. Brand new facility so the waiting area and room were in perfect condition. A Pirates Curse was one of Escapology’s better games (still like Haunted House the best), as there is a good mix of tech and locks within the room, and the pirate ship atmosphere is well done. The room is pretty straightforward and we never felt rushed so it was fun working through all the different puzzles. I especially like that this location provides flashlights and an e-notepad as there were a few puzzles where both came in handy. Anthony (GM and part owner) was very friendly and fun to talk with before/after. Anthony gave us a few nudges when we spun our wheels on something we figured out but did not know how to 100% complete. We had a fun time!

The Da Vinci ExperienceEscapade 360Escape roomIRL4th time visiting Escapade 360 and it was a great experience. Da Vinci was a 1-room experience, which I usually dislike, but this older room was in excellent condition and provided a lot of fun! DV is one of their easier rooms, and that is what we were looking for on a random Thursday evening. DV had a large assortment of puzzles, all of them fair and a lot of fun, including an energy puzzle, a puzzle where we did some fishing, and another where we used a catapult, which made me feel like I was playing the kids game Crossbows & Catapults. Room had a good mix of tech and mechanical puzzles, with most puzzles giving you a rewarding interaction once the puzzle was completed. Overall, this linear room was much better than I expected and we had a blast! Customer service is always great at E360 as we will always talk about our recent ER experiences, and Dan (owner and GM) does a great job of only giving nudges when we really need it (and usually in a funny way). Customer experience is very important at E360, so we always dissect the room once we are done and get shown how various things work. E360 has lower budget sets but a great variety of puzzles in their rooms, so check them out! Ranking at Escapade 360 1)Last Video Store 2)Da Vinci Exp 3)The Candy Factory 4)Save Santa
Cyber StationCity Limits Escape RoomsEscape roomIRL3rd time visiting City Limits (CL) and it was another good experience. Just walking through the hallways of CL is exciting, as the hallways leading up to game are in the dystopian theme and have a lot of cool decor and graffiti, which makes you start to feel immersed in the city setting, before you even enter your room. We played Cyber Station, which had another cool set, but this time in a subway station. The sets really make the game more fun at CL, as they are really well done and transport you into the dystopian City world. There was a wide variety of puzzles in this room, and I enjoyed the skill puzzle early on. This room had another Simon-type puzzle near the end, but this was easier than a similar puzzle in the City Reserve room. There were multiple areas to explore and several neat puzzles, but the flow seemed to not be as good in this room. We did not always connect with the sequence for entering in known information, and it made us spin our wheels a bit. Also, a few puzzles were a little “sticky” with the buttons so we had to enter them multiple times, but nothing that threw us off much. There were cool real items in the room including a pay phone, pop machine, and coin machine. Interacting with these props were fun and there was even a fun fake phone number you could call and get an early 80’s throwback jingle, which made us smile. Overall, another cool room and fun experience. After we were done, we spoke with the owners, Mike and Michelle, about how everything was going at CL, and how they were able to rebuild everything so well. They even gave us a quick tour of the place, including showing us the wiring of certain rooms and the GM room. Mike and Michelle were great to talk with, and they are very open for feedback, as they are planning on more rooms at this location and are open to tweaking their current rooms to make them better. It is great to see owners who want to improve and are concerned about providing a great customer experience, so I appreciated them both spending extra time on a Friday night to speak with us. Definitely check out City Limits and play Save The City (all 4 rooms, hallways, and bonus room) when they have that available later this year!
The Haunted Doll ShopJust Escape RoomEscape roomIRL3rd visit to Just Escape Room and The Haunted Doll Shop was a fun room. We were going to play as a pair, which would have been more appropriate for this smaller room, but having 4 also worked fine. Good variety of puzzles in the room, and I really appreciated the dry erase board in the room, as that was utilized for several puzzles to keep track of sequences. Also, I appreciated the puzzle where we got to use a bungee cord, because who doesn’t like to play with bungee cords. Set was solid and made you feel like you were in a spooky Doll Shop. Lighting was a little dark but appropriate for the theme and manageable. I only wish the game had 1 more room with more puzzles as it was fun, but we got through it relatively quickly. Jordan (owner/builder) was our GM, so we finally got to meet him. Jordan was great to speak with after about our favorite ERs and games we have played in the area. Jordan also told us about his upcoming room, Cabin Murder, which will be opening later this summer, and it sounds really fun. You can tell that Jordan puts a lot of thought and love into his games, so I cannot wait for Cabin Murder. Defintiely check out Just Escape if you are in the area. Sal's CyberneticsThe Immersive MachineEscape roomIRLFrom the moment we entered The Immersive Machine (TIM), it brought us into a futuristic world and I knew we were going to love this room. The waiting area up front as well as the hallways and lounge area leading up to the game, we felt like we were in a Blade Runner, Total Recall, or Running Man civilization, which was super cool. The set of Sal’s Cybernetics (SC) was Hollywood quality with amazing attention to detail. Weathered/dirty areas looked incredibly real and textured, although being perfectly clean. The use of futuristic lighting, objects, and video screens were perfect and appropriate where used, and felt like I was in a futuristic movie. All areas were extremely well done with no details forgotten. The room had a lot of creative details, including the hint mechanism that was used and no countdown clock. The interaction with the hint mechanism made me smile each time we corresponded. There being no clock in the room kept us focused on our objective and immersed, as opposed to worried about not escaping. TIM can tweak the game on the fly for how quickly a group moves through the room so everyone can experience the full story (which I greatly appreciate), and our experienced team of 2 came very focused today so we went through the room efficiently. We were able to experience every puzzle they offer except for 1 longer hack-deactivation puzzle at the very end, which they rarely give to teams of 2. The puzzles were all extremely fun and straightforward. Nothing too difficult, but still challenging, and perfect for our experienced team of 2. As we were on our game today, we had great flow to the room, and divided and conquered for many puzzles. Lots of tech in the room and a certain ocular device was EXTREMELY COOL to use and experience. We needed to use teamwork a lot in this room, especially with the ocular device, so communication was extremely important. The GM, Kay (co-owner), was very fun to talk with before and after the game, as we shared some of our favorite ER experiences from around the country. Kay did a perfect job of interacting with us, allowing us to have an enhanced experience. She also told us about TIM’s 2 rooms which are in production, with 1 of them opening in Fall 2026. She even mentioned how they may have a combined experience similar to the old City 13’s “Save the City” experience, where they would allow players to play all 3 games in a row with lobby/hallway puzzles involved as well. Sounds like some cool plans to look forward to in the next few yrs from TIM. It is very clear that TIM’s main objective is to provide an amazing customer experience. Overall, SC has a lot of different spaces that you get to explore and each space was extremely well done and on theme. Very immersive experience and just brought smiles to our faces throughout with the humor that various puzzles, or interactions, created. SC is definitely a Top 5 game for me with regards to storyline, immersion, set design, customer service, and just overall fun. Also, it is only 5 mins from the airport, so a no-brainer to do when traveling through Phoenix. HIGHLY RECOMMEND!
Mogollon Monster: Scouting for Arizona's BigfootThe Nemesis ClubEscape roomIRL1st time visiting The Nemesis Club (TNC) and it lived up to the high expectations I read about. Entering through Soda Jerk and delivering the secret password, and then entering TNC through the hidden entrance was a fun experience. While in the waiting area for our game to start, we walked around and found some cool detailed decorations in the areas…the vibe told me that TNC was going to be great. We played Mogollon Monster, and immediately was immersed into the story with all the sound effects, the warning preparations from Ranger Nick, and how the game is started. I like doing physical skill puzzles so having this right off the bat was a fun surprise. The set being a campground was really well done and large. Be prepared to get a little dirty/sandy from the environment as the campground provides a real experience. Sets in all areas were great, and I especially enjoyed the outhouse and some surprises in there. Puzzles were really fun and for the most part straightforward. Loved being in the RV at the end doing several different tasks, especially when the monster arrives at camp and the RV turns into a simulator experience. Customer service and GM’ing was good, but nothing above and beyond, so a little disappointed with the lack of enthusiasm. Overall, MM had great sets, puzzles, and tech as everything was really well done. We had a really fun time and will be back to play their other games when we return to Arizona.
City ReserveCity Limits Escape RoomsEscape roomIRL2nd time visiting City Limits (CL) and another fun experience. We played City Reserve, and this was definitely a larger and more challenging game than The Armory (which we played as a duo). We brought 6 people and it was probably 2 too many people, as we were a little tight in some rooms as we progressed through the game. City Reserve had a very cool set and vibe, similar to The Armory’s dystopian type of setting where you really do feel immersed due to the set, but this room had more space and the game flowed better. Again, some cool use of tech in the room, with some laser reflections, and the final puzzle required a lot of communication, but was fun to accomplish. If anyone remembers the toy/game Simon, there was a memory puzzle which sucked up a little time very similar to this concept…very doable, but does take some focus. Another standard jigsaw puzzle was a little worn out which added to the difficulty of it. Tina did a great job as GM and was really friendly to talk with before/after. Definitely check out CL if you are in the area…you’ll have fun!
The ArmoryCity Limits Escape RoomsEscape roomIRLWhen I heard about City 13 from Wisconsin closing down in January 2025, I was bummed as I really wanted to play Save the City, which was a 4 different room, 4hr long, escape adventure. Last summer when visiting Twisted Limits in McHenry, I learned that TL along with some new owners would be partnering to rebuild City 13’s rooms, and resurrect the Save the City experience. Through this partnership, City Limits Escape Rooms was created by first deconstructing the old City 13 rooms in Wisconsin, and recreating the Save the City experience (all 4 distinct rooms and themed hallways) in Lakemoor, IL, with some improvements to the games/sets/puzzles to make it their own. City Limits website is still currently under construction, but they recently opened for business in May 2026, and can be booked by calling the number on their website. We literally called them an hr before we wanted to play and they accommodated our needs. Upon arrival at CL, the lobby sets a nice tone with a futuristic vibe and a clean look. We were greeted by one of the owners, Michelle, with her daughter Sam, whom GM’d the game for us. Since they just opened, Michelle explained to us how they acquired the games and how the building process has gone so far. Very interesting to learn about everything. Since it would only be 2 of us on a random Wednesday evening, we decided to play The Armory, which is City Limits’ easiest room and most basic in terms of tech, yet there still was quite a bit of fun toys/puzzles throughout. The set instantly grabs you and immerses you as it feels like you are in a beat-up weapons room. The room lacks lighting in order to set the mood, but there is enough lighting to not make it a significant obstacle. There are plenty of objects to find, and there are additional objects found that may not get utilized, so you need to distinguish. Flow to the room was ok, but there were a few times where we needed to take another look at everything (or receive a nudge) on what to work on next. There was only 1 lock and 2 keyed locks in the game, and each were theme appropriate, so several fun puzzles to solve which used mechanics or tech. There was 1 math related puzzle using tech which could stump people for a bit, but I actually enjoyed this puzzle a lot. Although there were multiple areas to explore, I would recommend 2-4 people for this room as it is pretty straightforward and not the largest space (2 is probably perfect if you do this room as a standalone game). This room is probably more appreciated when you are completing the Save the City Adventure, as it would be even more exciting when you get to use objects discovered in a completely different room. With all of this said, and knowing this would be CL’s most basic experience, we still had a fun experience. After we concluded our game, we got a tour through the rest of the facility, taking a quick peek at the other rooms, areas in the building for additional games, their neighboring Racing venue (which also has VR Escape Rooms), and then their Boardwalk Cafe & Games (which is their board games, life-size games, and Food/Beverage venue). It is clear that CL is in this for the long haul and is making very good decisions on how to run not only a successful Escape Room, but an entertainment complex. Michelle was very open to suggestions on how we thought the room went and how the entire building of rooms looked and felt overall, and has a good plan for their future. Michelle said that their team would continue to make improvements to all of the games as they get played so they can continue to get better with the flow. In addition, Michelle said that a great customer experience is what they are striving for, so if people need a few extra minutes to experience the entire room, they will accommodate that. I see great things coming from City Limits Escape Rooms and am looking forward to playing all of their rooms (or possibly the Save the City Adventure) in the future! Highly recommend checking them out.
Storyteller's SecretBoxarooEscape roomIRL1st timing visiting Boxaroo in downtown Boston and Storyteller’s Secret was a fantastic experience. We arrived early, so it was fun talking with the host about Boxaroo’s rooms, other ER places in Boston, and about other great rooms we have done in the past. Storyteller’s Secret intro video gave a detailed background story using text, audio, and graphics which really allowed us to connect well with the story and got us more immersed than usual (before it even started). The room sets were all really creative and well done, and the vibe for the room was just relaxing. There was a good amount to do throughout and we got off to a slow start (as we usually do as a pair), but we never felt panicked or rushed. Room was linear and even if we did not use the book much, there were subtle clues for what to work on next. After finding the first few objects, the flow to the room was really good, and knowledge gained from prior chapters allowed us to progress very quickly later on. There was a wide variety of puzzles, so something for everyone. Room had a ton of cool tech where things were made, opened after achieving objectives, or played audio/visual aides to give a congratulatory sense of completion when achieved. Some fun mechanical types of puzzles while mixed with tech, made for a lot of fun surprises. Only 1 standard lock was used in this room. Finale was a fun end to the story and gave us a good rush of accomplishment. Indrid was a great GM with good enthusiasm and energy. Indrid interacted with us in a subtle way, which was perfect, even allowing us to be creative in figuring out on our own how to complete a 3 person puzzle with 2 people. You can tell customer service is very important at Boxaroo, which makes an ER experience that much better. Highly recommend Storyteller’s Secret, but bring only 2-3 people.
KongLock ChicagoEscape roomIRLFirst time at Lock Chicago and it was a decent experience. Kong is their newest room with the most tech and it was a good experience overall. The immersion in the room was very good as you felt like you were in a safari camp with the floor being old shipping pallets that creaked, the dim lighting of a nighttime camp, and the wood shipping containers. Some cool themed decorations on the wall added to scenery. There was a lot of tech used in the room where if you performed the right sequences or placed things in the proper place, boxes would automatically open or lights would shine, which was rewarding. The room was pretty dark throughout, and it gets darker as you progress through the game due to a few puzzles near the end that may benefit from having it darker. They only provide 2 very dim lanterns, so luckily I brought my own flashlight, as darkness is an obstacle throughout, which makes the room more difficult. They really should provide each person with their own flashlight, as that would improve the experience significantly. Another area for improvement is to simply provide a pad of paper/pen or a scribe writing tablet as there is 1 puzzle which has a few different parts to it and having something to write on would make it much easier. The darkness and not having anything to write on really frustrated us during this particular puzzle and forced us to waste time. The puzzles were fun overall and made sense, with a few that stretched your thinking a bit (and with the darkness, made it much harder to connect with). The finale of the room, with saving Kong, was neat, but also a little generic. GM (Aiden) was friendly and gave us a few helpful nudges. The hint system is very basic with each character being typed coming onto the screen in real time…but it worked fine. For a 1-room escape room, Kong was a fun experience, but nothing really memorable.
Containment60 to Escape - GurneeEscape roomIRLContainment was our last room we needed to play at the Gurnee location and it was great. Containment is 60 to Escape’s oldest room and although it did have more locks than any of their other rooms, there was still some tech in the room and the locks all fit the theme. This was supposed to be one of 60’s harder rooms, but we thought it was pretty straightforward and had a little of every type of puzzle, which we liked. Although it was a little dark throughout, it fit the immersion of the theme. I do not love darker rooms where you can’t see well, but as we “found” 4 bright flashlights as part of the 1st puzzle, it made the experience absolutely doable for everyone. It was also nice that each flashlight could be hung around your neck and that there was a flicker of light every few seconds in most rooms. Also, there was no reading that was needed in the dark as anything that had words really did not get used or had some light shining on it. Sets were really well done, as you would expect with 60’s rooms, and there were A LOT of different areas to explore that you kept discovering, which makes the experience more fun. We actually liked Containment a lot, as it is a solid room overall. Not 60’s best room, but you definitely need to play it if you are nearby.
Pins & Needles Tattoo ParlorThe Escape Ventures - Clearwater [prev. The Exit Games]Escape roomIRL2nd visit to The Exit Games FL and Pins & Needles Tattoo Parlor almost lived up to the hype. The experience was incredibly immersive and all of the rooms were really well done. All the details of every room (and there were A LOT of rooms) were Hollywood quality and made you feel like you were in each of the various settings. Loved the music in the first half of the experience as it really added to the immersion. I loved that several rooms had physical tasks to accomplish and there were a wide variety of different puzzles, all making sense. Lots of easter eggs for SoS throughout, which were fun to identify. It was cool that they personalize the experience for your team of artists. The room was actually a lot more tame (more like PG-13 than R) than I thought it would be. Customer Service (Rainer was our GM) was fantastic again, and added to the exceptional experience. Highly recommend P&N!
Starship: Final Frontier60 to Escape - GurneeEscape roomIRL5th visit to 60 to Escape’s Gurnee location and another fantastic experience. Starship FF is Gurnee’s newest room and the amount of tech and set immersion definitely showed that a lot of preparation went into this room. Opening introduction audio was a little long, but it was an interesting story to set the stage for this very immersive experience. Room is both linear and non-linear at times, so having ~4 people play allows for very good flow. We split up at times, solved a bunch of puzzles in pairs, and did some puzzles as a full group. All puzzles were fair and fun, and you had satisfaction when you opened a new area to progress forward. Lots of new areas kept opening up throughout, which made this room very exciting. The entire game had clear objectives on what needed to be accomplished, so the flow was great. The puzzle near the end that several reviewers said wasted time for them, was actually not that difficult if you were very observant and took the “time”. The finale was a really fun moment which got your heart moving, and there was an unexpected moment after the finale as the game continued where 1 person needs to make a critical decision. Customer service was great as usual. Really fun and well done room, but we liked Hidden Temple and Duke’s Farm better at this location.
Last CallGame Theory EscapesEscape roomIRL1st time visiting Game Theory Escapes in Crystal Lake and it was a fantastic experience. We were the last group on a Saturday night, and, Kristy, the owner, greeted us and let us play with some of the mini-games in the lobby before we headed into our room. While looking around, we talked with Kristy about some escape rooms we recently experienced and she let us know she is an Enthusiast, so we knew this room was going to be fun. The theme of Last Call is something different than we usually see, but being locked in the bathroom after closing is something that could totally happen at a bar, and actually did happen to a friend of mine just after college, so it brought back memories of his story. The flow of the room was very good. We seem to always have slow starts, but in this room, we found some items immediately, identified several clues, and started connecting the dots almost from the very beginning. The rooms were non-linear, but some puzzles connected with later ones overall and although there were a good number of locks, you always seemed to know what lock the discovered combo went to. Some of the puzzles/games had unique concepts that I had not experienced before, and we really enjoyed a puzzle that you had to reflect upon. There were several fun sequences and reveals that brought our team a lot of energy. Our team had great communication and flow throughout, and although this room had a lot to get through, we were efficient and enjoyed every minute of it. Just a great vibe in the room throughout. The rooms had real props in them which made you feel like you were in a real sports bar and bathroom. I loved the urinals on the wall, all the bar games (some of which we get to play), and cool Chicago sports/liquor decorations in the bar that were used throughout the experience. Even cooler, was having the ‘85 Bears Super Bowl game being played on the TV during the entire experience…such a cool touch! After we were done, we spoke with Kristy again, and she told us how she built her room and we talked about other ER’s in the area we both liked. Kristy even let us take a peak into a Carnival themed room she is currently building, which may open later in 2026. She builds her rooms basically by herself, so it will take some time, but the build quality is extremely high and she uses real materials/props for everything. Really happy we found Game Theory Escapes…we had a blast! I have now played 60 rooms, and this room was easily in the top 1/3 of all rooms I have played, in terms of puzzle variety, immersion, and overall fun. Kristy was a great host/GM, and it was evident that she does this because she loves escape rooms. Highly recommend Last Call and can’t wait to come back to play Haunted Manor.
Who Stole Mona?Escapology - GlenviewEscape roomIRL4th visit to Escapology Glenview (7th Escapology room overall) and Who Stole Mona was a fun room! Not the hardest room, but one puzzle threw us off for a bit where we spun our wheels due to having 2 numbers reversed, so we had to double check things multiple times (which was frustrating) and the hint received did not help us. Overall, pretty good flow to the room and some fun reveals. The immersion was good in this room as you did feel like you were in someone’s private art gallery/office, so one of Escapology’s better rooms (Haunted House and Scooby are the 2 best).
The Candy FactoryEscapade 360Escape roomIRL3rd visit to Escapade 360 and The Candy Factory was another solid room, but by-far the hardest. About half our group of 5 were not connecting well with the puzzles early on, so instead of dividing and conquering in this non-linear room that had a lot of puzzles, we did most puzzles together, which ate up a lot of time. There were multiple rooms to explore with several fun reveals and some solid tech. However, most of our group never could get flowing in the game as the puzzles were not the easiest to grasp and they became frustrated. 1st room in a long time that I have not gotten out of, so I would recommend at least 4 people for this room. Overall, we still had fun and Dan (Owner) was great to talk with as usual. We will be back to do the remaining rooms.
Mansion MurderEscapology - GlenviewEscape roomIRL6th Escapology room overall and 3rd time at their Glenview location…Mansion Murder was a solid room. Room is supposedly their most difficult, so we asked for a few hints in the first half when we spun our wheels slightly, but did not need any nudges for the second half of the experience when we started cooking. Overall, after you get past a certain part in the 1st room, there is very good flow. Room set and design was solid overall and puzzles were fun/fair, but nothing that really stood out. Customer service from the host and GM were great as usual at this Glenview location. We had a lot of fun and will be back at Escapology’s Glenview location (which is far better than other Escapology locations) for another room.
Heist HavocRedacted Escape RoomsEscape roomIRLAfter reading all the hype of the newly opened Redacted room, Heist Havoc, we went into it with great expectations. We had a fantastic experience and my expectations were fulfilled (almost). Before you enter the room, you are given a briefcase of tools and a guide on how to use the tools. The set design of the room was Hollywood-like quality with great attention to detail. Everything in the room was clean and looked like a real Art Gallery. When we started, we immediately made connections with certain observations, but struggled a bit to move forward with the info we gained. We used some of the tools right away, but others we put off using until later when we really should have used them sooner. There is tons of technology used in this room and no traditional locks (which is great). However, it was almost weird to play a game like this as your brain is use to thinking in a different manner. As we were only a team of 3 and we just got done with another room earlier in the evening, we were a little tired tonight and our connections were not being made as quickly. I would definitely recommend having at least 4 people, as there is a lot to do during the 90 minutes. After our initial struggles, we started to connect the dots in the room and make progress. From there, the room flowed really well. Everything in the room worked perfectly and the execution of the puzzle reveals were crisp and ignited excitement. My favorite parts of the room were when you have to crawl into an area and after we tripped the alarm. These physical movements, while done in this immersive room, makes you feel like you are actually in a art gallery stealing something. All your senses are on high-alert at various times giving you an extra rush of excitement. Customer service at Redacted was amazing. We talked with one of the owners (Nick) for awhile before we started about ERs overall and what they are planning for the future. During the game, he gave us great nudges when we were stumbling, and he even gave us extra time in order to experience the entire room and complete it (which we greatly appreciated). We were also the last group of the night and it was well past 11pm when we left, so letting us finish meant him having to stay late. This is a room you should definitely check out. Looking forward to the summer release of their next room.
The Storm60 to Escape - MilwaukeeEscape roomIRL2nd timing visiting 60 to Escape’s Milwaukee location and The Storm was another fantastic experience. We have done all 6 Woodfield rooms and 5 of the 7 Gurnee rooms, so we knew this would be another great room. The Storm had an impressive set design and multiple rooms to explore. There was lots of fun tech used in the rooms and the “storm conditions” made you feel like you were on a farm, and in a farmhouse, during a tornado. There were fun tie-ins with some movies, and there was one puzzle that you had to be very observant at the correct moment. The room did not have as many puzzles as some of 60’s other rooms, and we could not get into a great flow like we usually do. We went down the wrong path with one puzzle and it used up a lot of time. We had an “off” night with our solving skills, but, luckily, this was an easier room and our GM (Molly) provided some timely hints to ensure we would not get swept away in The Storm. As usual, customer service was fantastic and everyone we interacted with upon our arrival was really fun to talk with. The Storm was another great room from 60 to Escape.
