It already starts with a great introduction from the actor/host, after which you’re left to explore on your own. At all times, it’s very clear what you’re supposed to do and how the different mechanics work, which is a big plus. The room is also very well paced in terms of scariness. The more you discover and the more you understand, the “stronger” you feel as a player. This keeps the tension nicely balanced and prevents the experience from ever becoming too overwhelming. The atmosphere created through the set design, lighting, and sound is excellent. Especially at the beginning, it creates a very eerie and tense atmosphere. The mechanics used throughout the room are also quite innovative and really add to the experience. The actor did a fantastic job and stayed fully in character! I had a lot of fun in this room. It’s definitely a must-play if you’re in the area. Even if you’re usually scared of horror, I would highly recommend giving this one a try. Thanks to the clear mechanics and excellent pacing, it never becomes too scary. This makes it a great choice if you want to try an escape room with an actor for the first time!
LostDream LabsEscape roomIRLThis is genuinely one of the most beautiful rooms I have ever played. And that is quite something to say, considering I was absolutely terrified for most of the experience. Besides being one of the most beautiful, it is without a doubt also one of the scariest rooms I have ever played. Let’s start with the set design and story. Wow. I honestly don’t have the words for this. Every single detail has been carefully considered, and while playing, I genuinely felt like everything around me was real. That naturally made the danger feel all the more real as well. The sound, lighting, set design, and story come together perfectly and create what is perhaps the most beautiful experience Dreamlabs has to offer. The level of scariness was a real surprise. We’re fairly experienced with horror rooms by now, but this one genuinely got to me. I think especially because we didn’t expect it to become this intense, which made us genuinely jump a few times. The horror is never overly aggressive or actually dangerous, but it really gets into your head and stays with you. Personally, it became a little too much for me at one point. Luckily, we were able to communicate this to the team, and they handled it in a very good way, allowing us to continue the experience comfortably. And thankfully they did, because I absolutely wanted to see everything this room had to offer! The game hosts also deserve a special mention. What an acting performance. The Dreamlabs concept is used brilliantly to start your adventure, and this is largely thanks to the fantastic acting talent of the game hosts. At times, it was so convincing that I genuinely found myself wondering whether something was part of the room or was actually happening. That is a huge compliment. I do have one small point of criticism regarding the lack of space once the game starts. You are told to run and hide when you encounter “something”, but there is so little space at that point that you can easily end up panicking and bumping into each other or the walls. This may partly be down to the way we personally react to fear, but I don’t think we’re the only team whose instinct is to get as far away from the “danger” as quickly as possible. This made the fear even more intense and made the beginning somewhat frustrating at times because of constantly running into walls and teammates. Other than that, this is absolutely a must-play, but be prepared: this room is genuinely scary. I would love to play it again now that I know what to expect, so I can appreciate everything the room has to offer even more without being quite so terrified the entire time.
Metropolis 2099Dream LabsEscape roomIRLThe concept behind Dreamlabs is phenomenal. From the very beginning, the fantastic game hosts completely pull you into the experience, making everything feel just right. In terms of set design, this is one of the most beautiful rooms I have ever seen. It is packed with details, and it’s clear that everything has been thought through down to the very last detail. I was also completely blown away by the special effects. The puzzles were fun. They were still fairly linear, but there was already more room for teamwork than in Pirates. There were also some very original puzzles among them. My biggest “problem” — and the reason why this room doesn’t get a heart from me — is the ending. As you can tell from the rest of my review, I have a lot of praise for this room. The story, puzzles, and atmosphere completely draw you in, and everything builds up beautifully. Until it suddenly stops. The ending felt so abrupt to me that I genuinely thought we were going to go back and that this was just a fake ending. In my opinion, this is currently an important area for improvement. I was left so confused and slightly disappointed afterwards that it actually overshadowed, for a moment, how good the rest of the experience had been. And that’s especially unfortunate, because with a stronger ending, this could have been a truly fantastic overall experience. If they manage to find a good solution for the ending, I genuinely believe this could become one of the absolute top escape rooms in Germany. Hopefully this is something that can still be improved in the future!
CuriosaEpic EscapeEscape roomIRLWhat a beautiful room. Illusion was always one of my go-to recommendations whenever people asked me for escape room suggestions. From now on, I’ll be sending them straight to Curiosa. This room is a perfect example of how craftsmanship, theatricality, and escape rooms can be seamlessly combined into one experience. The story is engaging and unfolds naturally as you play. The lighting, sound design, and technical effects are perfectly synchronized, leaving you staring in amazement more than once. These elements continuously enhance the immersion and elevate the story to an even higher level. The puzzles are also excellently integrated into the narrative. Nothing feels forced, and everything contributes to the overall experience. The set design is stunning as well. Every detail has clearly been carefully considered, and there are several fun easter eggs hidden throughout the room. Take your time when playing and make sure to occasionally stop and appreciate everything around you. The music deserves a special mention. It is absolutely beautiful and adds so much to the atmosphere. I genuinely wished I could take the soundtrack home with me. The introduction and welcome are also wonderfully executed. Compliments to our host! You can tell that the team behind this room has a genuine passion for escape rooms. It shows in the finishing touches and attention to detail, and you can hear it when they talk about their creation. A huge thank you to the entire team for the enjoyable conversation afterwards and for taking the time to share their passion with us. We had an absolutely fantastic experience.
ArbrevilleDe Gouden KooiEscape roomIRLA truly beautiful room. De Gouden Kooi has surpassed itself with this one. In my opinion, this is currently the best room they have to offer. The puzzles, story, atmosphere, and set design come together perfectly. I had an amazing time, and the room is accessible for both newer and more experienced players. The story is built up beautifully and completely drew me in. In fact, it genuinely moved me on a personal level. The stunning set design, thoughtful lighting, and use of music all contribute greatly to that experience. What impressed me most is that, despite the grand scale of the experience, the puzzles remain an important part of the game. In many story-driven rooms, puzzles can sometimes fade into the background, but here they remain an essential part of the overall experience. In short: absolutely worth playing.
Alice Im Wunderland [Alice In Wonderland]CineRoom BambergEscape roomIRLThis was a very basic but fun room. The set design was nice, and the game host was very friendly. I would definitely recommend this room for beginners or families, as the quirky Wonderland vibe would be perfect for those groups. For us, it was perhaps a little too easy, but it was a perfect and much-needed break in between some of the scarier rooms.
Die Nacht des Werwolfs [The Night of the Werewolf]The Key - Real Life Escape GamesEscape roomIRLThis room was a pleasant surprise. We were on holiday nearby and felt the urge to play an escape room after all. This one had only a few reviews, but the photos looked very promising. The room itself was beautifully designed — it really feels like a small village that you can explore. Each house has its own atmosphere. The story becomes clear right away, and the game host gives a very good briefing in English. If you play in English, you receive translations of the texts you may encounter in the room and that you’ll definitely need. However, this doesn’t happen very often, which is good. There is quite a lot of storytelling through texts that are not translated. Luckily, I understand a bit of German, and I found this to be an added value for both the story and the overall experience. There weren’t a huge number of puzzles and they were quite linear, so I’d recommend playing with a maximum of three people. That said, the puzzles were fairly challenging, which was great. We did occasionally get stuck, especially when it came to investigation and searching. Overall, this room was a very nice surprise: great atmosphere, enjoyable puzzles, and some elements I hadn’t seen before. Thank you, Sophie, for the excellent hosting — the hints came at just the right moments and were still cryptic enough that they didn’t feel like outright answers. Fantastically done!
Bloodshed BayouEnygmaEscape roomIRLThe new room by Enygma! It’s very nicely made. The puzzles are logical and not strictly linear, which is always a big plus. The atmosphere and set design are very enjoyable, although the finishing could be slightly better in places (for example, some loose cables or visible magnets where additional decoration may still be planned). The story wasn’t entirely clear to me, but the puzzles themselves were very clear and fun to solve, with a nice mix of difficulty levels. Combined with the appealing set design, this makes for a very enjoyable overall experience.
Lost and FoundHotel Veloria [prev. Kamer 237]Escape roomIRLThis was a room of very high quality in every aspect. The puzzles, the set design, and the story were all excellent. Throughout the game, I truly felt like I was exploring the hotel’s old attic. A few nice effects made the experience even better, and especially at the beginning I really appreciated how effectively the lighting was used. Personally, I thought 237 was the stronger room at Hotel Veloria. In Lost & Found, the puzzles suited me slightly less, but that’s purely a matter of personal taste. If you’re in the area, this room is definitely a must-play so you can form your own opinion. All three rooms at this location are high quality, and I’m really looking forward to their next creation.
Kamer 237 [Room 237]Hotel Veloria [prev. Kamer 237]Escape roomIRLThis was, for me, the best room that Hotel Veloria has to offer. I absolutely loved it from start to finish. The puzzles were very fun and showed great variety, which kept the experience engaging throughout. The atmosphere was excellent, with beautiful set design and décor that really pulled you into the story. In addition, there were some exciting and tense moments, along with a few unexpected surprises that made the room even more memorable. This is a classic puzzle-focused escape room with some very cool and unexpected extras. Parallel puzzling worked perfectly, and teamwork felt natural and easy, which made the experience even better.
De Illusionist [The Illusionist]De KraakfabriekEscape roomIRLI played this room when it originally opened and recently replayed it. I was very surprised to see that it had moved to a new location. The puzzles are now spread across multiple rooms, and several new ones have been added. It’s a fun room with plenty of puzzles. Afterwards, I heard that we were given an extra puzzle that they only keep in the game if they see the players are moving fast enough; otherwise, they can skip it. Personally, I thought this was the best puzzle in the room, so it’s a shame that it sometimes gets skipped. The story sounds promising, but it more or less disappears as soon as you start playing. That’s unfortunate, because magic is a great theme. Especially if you’re expecting some kind of show element, it’s disappointing when that doesn’t really materialize. Conclusion: a very strong puzzle-focused room, but don’t expect too much from the story.
The Honeymoon HotelDarkPark ZoetermeerEscape roomIRLThis was a great room. Nice atmosphere and very nice puzzles. Some good scares but overall certainly not too scary. Darkpark has some great rooms to offer and this is certainly one of them!
In Flanders FieldsAtrium MortisEscape roomIRLThe room was definitely enjoyable! World War I is an interesting and rarely used theme, which already caught my attention beforehand. The set design was well done and nicely established the setting. The puzzles were fairly simple and could mostly be solved in parallel. Waiting for each other did not feel like a deliberate team choice, but rather a necessity. Without doing so, some players would have missed large parts of the room, as it was possible to progress quite far on your own. However, I felt that much more could have been done with this room. The decor is strong and helps create immersion, but at the same time it felt like something was missing. A fitting soundtrack alone could have added a lot. I also really missed a sense of danger. You are sneaking into an enemy trench, yet throughout the game it felt like you were completely alone and free to do whatever you wanted. An actor or clearer consequences for mistakes could have added that sense of threat and elevated the room to a much higher level. Another thing I noticed was that the room did not really feel like it was built by true escape room enthusiasts. Our game host did not seem interested in a debrief afterward. No photo was taken, and once we arrived, we were quickly sent into the room. After finishing, we were just as quickly back outside. This was quite disappointing, as these moments usually add a lot to the overall experience.
De Conciërge [The Concierge]Hotel Veloria [prev. Kamer 237]Escape roomIRLWhat a wonderful escape room experience this was. I loved how the entire complex is fully immersed in the “hotel” theme, and how even the game hosts are part of that atmosphere. Ferry was our game host, and he truly made our experience exceptional. From the moment the door opened, he set the perfect tone. Afterwards, he took plenty of time to chat with us while we enjoyed a drink. Thanks to him alone, the experience was already fantastic. As for the room itself: a great story, beautiful set design, and challenging puzzles—everything you need for an excellent escape experience. You can really tell the creators have an eye for detail. I had such a good time: struggled, celebrated, and had several great eureka moments. I’m very curious to try their other rooms!
Phantom Peak - CLOSEDPhantom PeakEscape roomOther We had a great time here! Like everyone says, don’t expect a traditional escape room — it’s more of an immersive theatre experience combined with interactive storytelling, where you help the townsfolk by talking to them and uncovering the right information around town. The town is beautifully designed, and the townsfolk play their roles wonderfully — hats off to them! The only downside for me was that you simply can’t do everything in one visit. The whole time I kept wondering, “What did I miss? Where are the hidden things?” So I’ll probably come back again! I just wish you could book for a bit longer — but that’s probably the completionist in me talking. I really enjoyed my visit to Phantom Peak, and we’ll definitely return! Soup Du JourRock City EscapeEscape roomIRLThis was a really fun escape room! Personally, I found it the least scary one at Rock City Escape, but definitely not any less enjoyable. The puzzles were creative and well thought out, and it was great that we could work on several things in parallel. The set design looked fantastic, and there were a few nice, surprising moments throughout. The “special effects” didn’t add much for me personally. Story-wise, I found it a bit odd that we could constantly see the chef, without any real interaction or sense of threat coming from him. One small downside was the ending — it felt rather abrupt. While the other rooms at Rock City Escape have a more rounded and satisfying conclusion, this one suddenly seemed to be over. That said, it’s definitely a room worth playing! Highly recommended if you’re visiting – the game hosts and overall atmosphere at Rock City Escape are absolutely fantastic!
Poppet - CLOSEDRock City EscapeEscape roomIRLWhat an incredible room! It’s such a shame that it will soon disappear. For us, this was by far the most enjoyable room Rock City Escape has to offer. Our game host, Riko, made the experience unforgettable. He played his role brilliantly and was also wonderful to chat with afterwards. The room itself looked stunning, with creative puzzles that were great fun to solve together. The special effects were impressive and, combined with the setting, created an eerie atmosphere that was sometimes scary, but never too overwhelming. The only minor downside for me personally was that the storyline faded into the background after a while. At the beginning, I was fully immersed in who we were as players and why things were happening. But once the game really got going, that element was somewhat lost. It was a pity, because the opening was so strong and original that I would have loved to see the concept carried all the way through. That said, this is just a tiny detail in an otherwise outstanding experience. The room is truly a gem. If you still get the chance to play it: don’t hesitate, just go for it! And once again, thank you Riko – you made the whole adventure a hundred thousand times better.
Bloody MaryRock City EscapeEscape roomIRLRock City Escape immediately sets a fantastic atmosphere from the very start. The game hosts fully embrace their roles, making the experience engaging and immersive right away. The waiting area in the monastery is cozy, and you can help yourself to drinks. The monastery setting as a whole really enhances the experience and instantly draws you into the story. We played three rooms, starting with Bloody Mary as a warm-up. The room itself is fun, with a great atmosphere, and the parallel puzzle structure keeps everyone involved. Even though the room is already ten years old, this doesn’t show in the décor – it still feels immersive and well put together. That said, some technical elements were quite visible or no longer functioning, such as a projector that was clearly present but unused. Still, Bloody Mary was an excellent warm-up and a very enjoyable room to begin with.
The Orphanage - If Walls Could WhisperDarkPark ZoetermeerEscape roomIRLWow—this room was absolutely fantastic! The story was very clear, and both the music and decor felt like a big step up from The Dentist and The Freakshow. From start to finish I was on edge, with clever jump scares and a perfectly eerie atmosphere. Everything worked seamlessly together to deliver an unforgettable hour. It’s definitely on the spooky side—but luckily the teddy bears were there for comfort! The use of sound in this room deserves special mention; it’s simply outstanding. We played The Dentist and The Freakshow first, and then this one—which turned out to be the perfect order. Now I can’t wait to discover the other DarkPark rooms we still have left to play!
The Freak ShowDarkPark DelftEscape roomIRLThey’ve really stepped things up in terms of decor and atmosphere compared to The Dentist (which was already very theatrical!). Personally, I preferred The Dentist a little more because its storyline felt clearer. In this room, the narrative was sometimes a bit vague, which made certain puzzles feel more linear and left me wondering why we were doing what we were doing. Because of that, the ending also felt a bit sudden—which is always a shame. That said, this is probably down to personal taste. Still, I absolutely recommend it. For its age, the room holds up impressively well compared to other escape rooms. The decor is stunning, the custom-composed music and lighting create a fantastic atmosphere, and the freak show setting offers plenty of spaces to explore. And once again, a huge shoutout to Luke—an amazing game host who really elevated our experience!
