Le Chant des Naufragés [The Call of the Stranded]SOS Aventures - Saint-JérômeEscape roomIRLBeautiful setting… Once again at SOS Aventures, we wasted time on puzzles that we had actually already solved (see below for more details).
La Lampe Magique [The Magic Lamp]Zone 15Escape roomIRLLinear game. You can only solve one puzzle at a time, and it’s designed for two players at a time. That’s why the ideal number of players is two, to keep others from sitting around twiddling their thumbs.
Le PassageChez CuriosaEscape roomIRLIt’s truly a wonderful place. Even though it’s the “classic” style (with padlocks), the experience is very enjoyable. The story is an integral part of the game. There are lots of puzzles, which is really great. The owner is passionate about what she does and makes sure guests have a great time. I can’t wait to go back and try the other game.
InsomniumA Double Tour Immersive ExperiencesEscape roomIRLWe were told during the introduction (before starting the game) that it’s non-linear. With that in mind, we thought we could tackle more than one puzzle at a time. Nope. We tackled a puzzle when it wasn’t the right time to do it: as a result, we solved it, but not at the right moment. In our minds, we’d finished it. But it didn’t trigger anything, because it wasn’t the right time to do it. A glitch in one of the puzzles caused us to waste a lot of time. The GM gave us the answer over the phone (by the way, that’s a strange system for receiving clues). We had to remember the answer without knowing where to apply it. They told us it was their newest game. I was really surprised by the quality of the puzzles—it felt like a game that was at least 2–3 years old. Finally, I tripped over a piece of the escape room’s structure. Be careful. There were two of us playing the game, and it was pretty cramped. And with just two people, it’s a bit intense. I’d suggest at least three people, but you’ll be packed in tight (due to lack of space).
L'île des PapillonsMon EnigmaEscape roomIRLThere aren't many puzzles, and you have to rely on the character to progress through the game.
Le Monstre De Frankenstein [Monster of Frankenstein]A/Maze West IslandEscape roomIRLI think they’ve improved the room since the previous reviews. I found this room to be straightforward and smooth, and you could tell when you’d solved a puzzle. But it might seem easy to people who aren’t new to escape rooms. I recommend this room for people who are new to the world of escape rooms.
MagnificoEscaparium - LavalEscape roomIRLPros: The actors are excellent. The sets are magnificent! The revelations are very impressive. Cons: The sound isn't always clear. Even though it's billed as an immersive experience, we expected a few more puzzles. It drags a bit in places, too.
Chut!D-CodeEscape roomIRLThere were some bugs in the game. It’s too high-tech for what it actually adds to the experience. But we still had fun. It’s a real trip down memory lane to the ’80s.
Le Prisonnier de l'Espace60 Minutes Jeux D'Évasion - De la GareEscape roomIRLIt’s an okay escape room. I thought there were too many buttons. The solutions make sense, sort of, sometimes. If you liked Aluxx M-05, you’ll like this kind of escape room. Personally, it’s not really my thing.
Le Carnaval Oublié [Forgotten Carnival]Escaparium - DowntownEscape roomIRLIt was really nice, with beautiful decor. A quick tip: you should have at least four people to play this room. ; )
Les Entrailles du Mal [The Bowels of Evil]Evasion EvolutionEscape roomIRLFor a new escape room, I was disappointed by the quality of the decor and the puzzles. It felt a bit “homemade” in terms of quality. The GM was setting up the room while we were in the last room. We asked for clues, and we could tell they weren’t what we needed. We were more confused than anything else after receiving the clues.
Opus MemoriEzkapazEscape roomIRLA fantastic welcome! The actor’s performance was top-notch! Immersive setting. We really loved this room. The only downside: if you’ve played the old “Opus Luminum” room, you’ll find some puzzles that will seem familiar.
PossédéDéserteur - TerrebonneEscape roomIRLThe game was entertaining. But once again, for me, there was too much math and reading. They should cut back a bit on that. Otherwise, it was good.
Retenue à Riverdale - CLOSEDParadox42Escape roomIRLAnother high-quality game from Paradox 42. Their strength: the originality of the puzzles! The only slight downside is that the game is "programmed" to ensure you finish it. It automatically skips puzzles based on the time remaining. In our case, we were told that one had been skipped for us. We asked to see the puzzle in question. In our opinion, we would have been able to solve it. I don’t know if the automation system can be adjusted at the start if you specify this to the GM, but it’s something I would have liked to know.
Rain Corp. - CLOSEDEscaparium - LavalEscape roomIRLNice decor, but you have to pay close attention to the robot’s instructions. If it’s a little noisy, you can’t really hear what it’s saying. Still, it’s an interesting room.
Ferrailles hurlantes [Screaming Metal]Cabinet MysteriisEscape roomIRLThere were two of us working on it. We mentioned that we’d like some help finishing it (to avoid getting stuck and keep up a good pace). The GM, Cédric “Ratchet,” was perfect. He helped us without giving us the answers (more or less, hehe). His acting was spot-on (there’s a character in the game). We played “Dreamwalkers” at Cabinet Mysteriis, and we preferred (by far) “Screaming Scrap.”
Au Pays des Merveilles [In Wonderland]A Double Tour Immersive ExperiencesEscape roomIRLI think our experience would have been better with a more attentive GM. There were two of us playing the game. We knew it might be a struggle, so we told the person who greeted us that our goal was to finish it. He said he’d take that into account and that everything should go smoothly. Things were going well, until I asked for help and no one answered me. No sound, no video. Very disappointing! This was my second time at “À Double Tour,” and nothing makes me want to go back because of the GMs’ general lack of attention. Otherwise, the game itself was okay. A small group is recommended given the limited space in some rooms.
Le Dernier Arrêt - V2 [The Final Stop - V2]Escaparium - LavalEscape roomIRLIt’s very immersive, living up to Escaparium’s reputation. There aren’t many puzzles, though. It’s still quite challenging.
Le Cirque des Âmes Perdues [Circus of the Lost Souls] - CLOSEDImmersia Escape GamesEscape roomIRLPerfect for a group with children. The difficulty level is beginner/intermediate. Children can easily get involved in solving the puzzles. Beautiful setting, well-designed. Some of the puzzles are quite original.
Annie-RoseAmusement RGEscape roomIRLAfter reading the reviews, I didn’t really have high expectations for this room. I was pleasantly surprised. They’ve done a great job of making the most of the rather limited space. There are plenty of puzzles, but don’t go with more than four people. It gets pretty cramped. Ideally, three people would be comfortable. The fact that there are a limited number of clues is disappointing. We didn’t need more, because this wasn’t our first escape room, but it could be a disappointing experience for people playing an escape room for the first time.
