The infamous “Shakespeare” has been responsible for data breaches on an international scale, and it’s up to you and a team of agents to uncover his infiltration methods. As an ally in our war against cyber outlaws, you will be granted access to A.R.E.S, a groundbreaking piece of technology in counterintelligence. This system will allow you to descend into the mind of our subject to extract secrets hidden within his memory.

This game is set to be retired, so it's not the same experience it was. That said, the puzzles were very clever and there was quite a surprise in the set design in the second room. We finished the basic game in about 35 minutes, before being allowed to work the bonus content taking us right up to 59 minutes. Sad to see a great early generation room be retired, but hope they can funnel the same great design expertise into something new.

The invitation is what drew you to view this particular emporium. You found it to be odd, since entrance was not granted based on the heaviness of one’s wallet, but rather the soundness of one’s mind. If only to ensure you are capable of beholding the curiosities within. But there is also rumour of an exquisite collection hidden within, viewed only by those with keen minds and quick wits.

Escape Ops' newest game was once again fantastic! They always do a great job with their puzzles and have something creative that you haven't seen before. The game definitely builds on itself as you progress, with the really cool sets developing later into the game. The immersion wasn't all there at the start, but that was likely how it was intended to play as you work your way closer to gaining access to the emporium! There were some REALLY unique puzzles that all flowed really well and made sense and weren't far-fetched or overly difficult... just the right amount. Overall, it was very different and unique in all the best ways. It wasn't the most elaborate storyline, but I definitely recommend all the rooms I've done with this company. The staff is super kind as well and happy to chat about their vision and the experience.

Malevolent forces all across the land have started performing rituals in an attempt to resurrect the Lord of Malice. We call upon you to conquer the shrine trial once braved by the Hero of Legend to restore the goddess’ blessing and seal the evil away once again.

This one’s for the puzzle enthusiasts. 

Don’t go in expecting amazing tech, over the top production, or set design. But do prepare yourself for some excellent, well thought out puzzles and riddles. This experience is packed wall to wall with exceptional brain teasers.

For the select few that make it to the end with time to spare, right when you thought the experience was tough enough, you are rewarded with even more bonus puzzles that elevate the experience even more so. What starts as a typical 60 minute leisurely stroll through some wonderful Zelda themed puzzles turns into the most high-octane-up-against-the-clock scramble trying to finish the now rewarded gift of many bonus puzzles, making the experience feel like a whole new room unfolds right in front of you. 

Definitely recommend if you find yourself in the area. 

Groups of 2, you better have your brains set to maximum because you will need it. 

Groups of 4 will enjoy the nonlinear pace of the room allowing everyone a chance to solve something.

The ad in the classifieds said three-hundred dollars and a free lunch. Enticing enough that you followed the address to a dark alley where you find a few people gathered, presumably for the same reason.

The door opens, and as you walk inside Dr. Saunders begins: "Welcome to the experiment. Form alliances, turn on each other, devour the weak, conquer, destroy, but most importantly... have fun. Those who succeed will be selected for exciting future opportunities with Mindmaster Industries."

And then it begins. You're just not sure what it is.

Mindmaster has one of the coolest stories/room setups that I've seen. My only complaint with this room is that we went with 6 people, meaning I couldn't engage with every single puzzle that we had to solve! Escape City makes you want to be involved in every aspect of the room, and getting to be a part of every little thing is a treat. There was a really cool game flow that we went through pretty quickly with our large group, and a great ending, which was super exciting and different from anything I've done before. It caused chaos within our large group, but that made it all the more satisfying to finish. The advancement of the story throughout the rooms is done well, and the high-pressure ending was a perfect finish to it all. They really made you feel like you were in an experiment that you found out more about throughout the rooms, with a nice physical aspect at the end that added to the immersion.

Travellers have always warned of the dangers of the woods and the enchanting Wizard’s Tower with its dark dungeon and powerful spells. As you awake to the cackling of a gleeful raven, you must move fast to escape the trap. If you and your fellow captives are too slow, you’ll permanently fall under the Wizard’s spell. Escape the mysterious dungeon before you’re stuck…forever!

This was our first experience at Arcadia's new location! It is quite the step up from their recent location and as such, the facility is super nice! It is a large space as well and I am excited to see what else they can come up with to fill this location! However, Ye Olde Horrible Dungeon in particular was a really cool game. It's a nice large room with a really cool design to go along with the neat theme and challenging puzzles. Due to it's size, it is better to have a bigger group, but it was enjoyable nonetheless. Really cool game flow as well. We got stumped at a few points as the puzzles are quite challenging but they were satisfying to solve and were well integrated into the theme as well as into each other. Really excited to visit Arcadia again soon!

Ghouls' Night Out

Are you ready for this adrenaline-fueled adventure? The name Jack The Ripper brought terror and fear to the women in London England in the late 1800's. Throughout history the identity of the world’s most notorious killer has never been discovered. Experience this historical adventure to uncover his identity before you become his next victim!

If you are looking for a horror room in Calgary, this is the one! Trapped has large rooms and sets, and all have had a great level of immersion. Jack the Ripper built anticipation really well, and all of the rooms helped you get more and more into the story, leading up to an exciting ending. The use of the live actor was great, and it's nice to know how much effort they put into giving you a good (Scary!) experience. One of our team members accidentally through a prop at the live actor out of fright, and they handled it great, even taking pride in scaring someone that much. The fear added to the difficulty, and the type of puzzles that Trapped employs requires more outside-of-the-box thinking that may not be catered to our group's usual strengths. The story/set was what made this experience so great and I hope to do another horror room done this well soon.

The disappearance of Madame Espera several months ago shocked the psychic world; the police investigation turned up nothing, and her house has sat dark and empty ever since… Until a few weeks ago, when a light flickered on in the front room, and a neighbour reported strange sounds coming from inside. A team of paranormal investigators went in to examine the house, but never came back out, and the reports of abnormal occurrences inside are increasing. As expert exorcists, you’ve arrived at Madame Espera’s to find out what happened to the previous investigators, look for signs of Madame Espera, and deal with any ghostly activity you find inside. As you approach the front door, you feel a pricking in your thumbs…

Something wicked this way comes.

Exit has really great staff who are passionate about what they do! You can tell they put a lot of thought and effort into their puzzles, props, and set design. Most notably, their newer rooms utilize neat technology that's very on brand for the particular room/theme. We had 7 people in this room, which may have been a little much, but it still functioned well given that there was a lot to do. A cool story and setup also added to the Haunted Hall experience, and although there was nothing particularly terrifying, it maintained a creepy vibe throughout and had some classic features that make any horror experience fun. Especially the first two rooms functioned really well within the game, setting up a cool, spooky narrative. The ending may have felt a little rushed, but the journey to get there was the highlight. Huge thanks to the staff here who always chat with us and are super proud of their work!

After a few days, one of you recently discovered the amulet from apartment 103 back in your possession so you decide to regroup to discuss this discovery. You find out that the amulet, possessing a certain spiritual power leads you to this old and abandoned manor.

In Calgary’s only 2-player escape game, the future of our planet relies on how well you work together!

We have received intel that Earth is in danger and we must quickly assemble a team to change the future. Work together with a partner to retrieve a powerful artifact that can prevent Earth from falling into peril. 

Tucked away in the most unusual of hiding places, an artifact capable of manipulating time has been stowed away to ensure the forces of evil cannot abuse its power. It’s too dangerous to go alone, so make sure to bring a partner. You are going to have to communicate effectively and take on the challenge as a pair, to successfully bring back the artifact to prove your worth as Earth’s greatest Dynamic Duo!

Dynamic Duo was a great experience that achieved its goal of being a fun, strictly 2-player game... one of only two that I am aware of in Calgary! The puzzles were really cool and required teamwork and coordination between two people. They weren't too far-fetched and made sense; Escape Ops always has cool and unique puzzles! The set, although minimal, accomplished its purpose and provided a unique experience in many ways. There seemed to be a lack of storyline and theme, but I think the main idea is that it's just a fun, enjoyable puzzle experience for 2 people, and it certainly was!

Dynamic Duo

Turtle Power is an escape room where you uncover the secrets of 4 teenagers, learn about their lives, and try to defeat a gang of thugs (60 Minutes/Premium Escape Room).

Our group had a really great time with the Turtle Power room at Escape 60! It's relatviely small, but this is not indicative of how well its setup and designed, as well as the number of puzzles. It's a very linear game and flows very well. The turtles theme was really nicely done and I liked the originality of the puzzles in here (specifically the very very first one) as well as how they rebuilt the world that the room was based on. I loved the props, colouring, and design of the room; it really felt like being in some underground hangout that you go with your friends to chill. Their is lots of locks and they are pretty direct with how you should navigate each of them (where to go next, what lock corresponds to what puzzle). Maybe could do with a little more creative puzzles as most of the puzzles end with a number/letter lock, but overall this was a great room and we had a great time!

At his peak, King Durin was a very distinguished king. He ruled over his Dwarven kingdom with an iron fist; a kingdom of fantasy which was famed for being built entirely underneath an isolated mountain. “The King Under the Mountain”, a title bestowed upon to him by his grateful people, reigned supreme for many years, until one fateful evening, when a terrible curse overcame him, corrupting his empire. The halls, once filled with the sounds of merriment and laughter, became filled with an eerie silence. It wasn’t long before the spiders within the walls took over, and Orcs occupied the labyrinth of mines in hopes of making use of the gold ores which were left behind. This darkness seized the mines, and his once prosperous kingdom became lost to time.

The forgotten kingdom became the subject of many tall tales and folklore throughout the land. Whispers of a treasure still remaining under the rubble and rock fascinated the nearby towns, but nobody dared enter the treacherous stronghold - until now. Your band of brave adventurers, a battalion of treasure hunters, have come seeking this great fortune despite the dangerous reputation of the stone keep. Unbeknownst to you, your quest to gain such wealth is just the first footstep in what is to be the greatest adventure of all time.

Your party of ambitious treasure hunters heads for the caverns undaunted, unprepared for the true hazards that lay on the road ahead.

Dare to be TRAPPED?

Durin's Curse had a really cool theme, story, and setup. I was very impressed with the tech and the creative vision behind some of the puzzles. The theme was emphasized at all stages in all of the puzzles, and it made the experience very immersive. There was another part of this room that was particularly unique, but I won't spoil that; however, it was a very cool element to add to a room about the Dwarven kingdom. There was a wide range of difficulty within the puzzles, some being super basic and others being quite difficult. I'd say 3-4 people would bring a good blend of ideas for this room without causing everyone to step on each other's toes. There was a fair amount to do, and I found there to be quite a few red herrings, but that's normal for Trapped. Their style of puzzles is also just more difficult for our group, but they are still super well done and make sense after getting some help! Good flow and story, Trapped always thrives with their stories and immersion!
