“We enjoyed this room! The kids had a great time running around the room looking for clues. We felt a little silly since 3 of us felt for the hidden object, but didn’t feel it and had to ask for a hint.”

“A small experience filled with well signposted, interesting puzzles. It captures the 80s arcade game theme very well. We did this with the Christmas theming, which was nicely integrated into the game.”

“This room is very immersive and really nice! We did it with 2 players and it was quite straightforward. In the beginning we were quite stuck (literally) for a while but that was also fun! The room has some unique puzzles and setups. If you like murder mysteries this room is for you! Probably it’s even better around Halloween since it’s in a themed haunted house with amazing props.”

“You get on the prison bus, they handcuff you in... the rest is history because you must escape! Really fun "room" with lots of interesting puzzles and a live actor involved. One of the puzzles involves a lot of math and I for the life of me kept messing up and the actor really applied pressure to make it fun. Our originally booked room was "Chloe" and due to snow we couldn't get there on time. They worked with us to find something else that would work the next day and I'm glad it was this one because of how unique the bus experience was. I'd hands down love to go back to Alcatraz Escape Room and do more of their rooms. Only call out - if it's cold out, make sure you wear appropriate clothes. You're basically outside in an unconditioned bus.”

Remember those point-and-click adventure games where you’re locked in a room and have to solve puzzles to find the key and escape? Those online games were the original inspiration for the live escape rooms you’ll find all across the world today. An escape room is an immersive experience where you (and your team of 2 or more people) are locked in a room with a series of puzzles for 60 minutes. To escape and win the game, you have to look for clues, solve the puzzles, and find the key. While most escape rooms only give you 60 minutes to complete the challenge, others may have shorter or longer time limits. Many venues are private rooms where you and your team are the only players. However, some places may pair you with other groups who booked a slot at the same time. And don’t worry about getting stuck, asking for hints on a difficult puzzle is totally normal. While the original escape room (created by SCRAP in 2007) had a fairly simple aesthetic, today’s escape games often take you into a different world. Artistic set designs, secret doors, and unique interactive elements are all part of the fun. It’s like an adventure game that you can interact with in real life. But if you’re hoping to preview any rooms before you book a game somewhere, detailed images and videos can be hard to find. To keep the puzzles a secret and preserve the experience of seeing the room for the first time, most venues only offer a few photos or a short trailer about the room’s theme or narrative. The only way to know what it’s like is to go and try it for yourself!
