“Great game. Probably not the best game for someone new or inexperienced at escape rooms. They say it has a 3% escape room with hints. Our group is fairly experienced and we were able to keep things moving and finished with 8 minutes left with only 1 hint. Experience helped. Communication skills are key.”

“I am visiting the area from DC. I would highly recommend this Escape Room to anyone traveling to the area or living in the area. A lovely, welcoming couple runs the Escape Room. They do a phenomenal job. The rooms have outstanding decor and are extremely fun to play. They recently opened so if you have time come check them out.”

“What a great experience! I’ve had this on my wishlist for a long time, and I am glad I finally had the opportunity to do it. The rooms were some of the largest I’ve ever seen. Theming was great and the gameplay was as well. Highly recommend.”

“The Lost Dutchman’s Mine does an impressive job of making you feel like a modern-day treasure hunter. The set design is atmospheric: rugged mine shafts, cryptic stone markings, and just enough flickering lantern lights to keep you second guessing on what might be hiding in the shadows. The designers clearly poured much love into the world-building here. Make sure to wear clothes you do not mind getting dirty afterwards. The puzzles themselves are well integrated into the story. You do feel like you’re piecing together a map, navigating the dangers of the traps left behind, and following the footsteps of people long gone. I appreciate how tactile this room is. As we moved deeper “underground,” the tone shifts from curiosity to urgency. Speaking of urgency - the pace of this room is no joke. Like the other experiences from this venue, the Lost Dutchman’s Mine is intentionally designed to be fast-paced. If you’re the type like me who wants to savor every detail, you may find yourself torn. The set begs to appreciated but time is running out. The ground will literally shake beneath your feet.”

“Seed of Hope is one of those rare games that pull you in the second you cross the threshold. The moment our team stepped into the abandoned orphanage, we knew we were in for something special. The set design is ridiculously detailed, the kind where every prop feels like it has a story attached to it. It’s immersive in a way that makes you want to slow down and take everything in. Except you can’t. This game does not give you the luxury. Seed of Hope is fast. Almost aggressively fast. Even with four experienced players, we were running around from puzzle to puzzle without a single breath in between. And while I normally love the adrenaline that comes with the spooky atmosphere, the pace feels like we were fighting against the incredible set. Maybe that was the point. It is an orphanage after all.”

“Another great room here! So immersive and the sets were great! This room has a slow start and you have to be patient, but it escalates after that. Definitely a good time. Another one I would highly recommend.”

Remember those point-and-click adventure games where you’re locked in a room and have to solve puzzles to find the key and escape? Those online games were the original inspiration for the live escape rooms you’ll find all across the world today. An escape room is an immersive experience where you (and your team of 2 or more people) are locked in a room with a series of puzzles for 60 minutes. To escape and win the game, you have to look for clues, solve the puzzles, and find the key. While most escape rooms only give you 60 minutes to complete the challenge, others may have shorter or longer time limits. Many venues are private rooms where you and your team are the only players. However, some places may pair you with other groups who booked a slot at the same time. And don’t worry about getting stuck, asking for hints on a difficult puzzle is totally normal. While the original escape room (created by SCRAP in 2007) had a fairly simple aesthetic, today’s escape games often take you into a different world. Artistic set designs, secret doors, and unique interactive elements are all part of the fun. It’s like an adventure game that you can interact with in real life. But if you’re hoping to preview any rooms before you book a game somewhere, detailed images and videos can be hard to find. To keep the puzzles a secret and preserve the experience of seeing the room for the first time, most venues only offer a few photos or a short trailer about the room’s theme or narrative. The only way to know what it’s like is to go and try it for yourself!
